I'm glad you're on your road to recovery my day is tomorrow and I'm on pins and needles but like you want to live a active pain free Life. I will be praying for you.

@shrinkette Ellen, was so glad to get up this morning and see you made it through fine. What a frustrating time it seems to have been. I tend to agree with everyone on the numbness but definitely do mention it to the nurses, dr, anyone who comes to check on you. I know I'm still dealing with that dead leg feeling a week out. Will be continuing to pray and send up good thoughts for a better day for you today. Hang in there and know many of us are here for you. Hugs and prayers coming your way!

Normal night of surgery
Yes indeed! You can get all sorts of weird sensations, most of which are just the usual trauma of the surgery. Don't worry about it. This time next week you'll find things are quite different.

Hopefully the numbness is wearing off today. I was given several pain meds before going into surgery - were you? They said it helps control the pain immediately when you wake up. It's going to get better!

Hi dear Ellen, so glad you made it to the other side.
I saw Josephine's reply that your night was just normal surgery after effects. Whew! you can feel
relieved over that.
Please be a squeaky wheel, so they can ensure you feel your best.
We all care very much how you do.

Hello Ellen dear, glad it's done for you. So sorry you had to suffer. Hopefully the worst is behind you now. Breathe deep and think of the improved mobility you'll have in the end. Ha! Spoken like someone who has not been there yet!. I shall report to the hospital in 90 minutes, so time to get moving. Talk to you from the other side. Feel better my friend.

Hi Ellen @shrinkette , just checking to see how you are doing. I hope Jo's input eased your mind a bit. Your poor leg has been through lots of trauma. Hope you are feeling a bit better.

@shrinkette!!!! So glad you are awake and talking. I was getting worried waiting for you. I do believe all these feeling you have are just part of the surgery. That leg was probably twisted and pulled who knows how many times. Oh you are a strong lady and you will get through this. This is major major surgery. People who have little pain are truly the lucky ones. I think to we all deal with pain very differently...REST AND TAKE THOSE MEDS!!!!:console2: Hugs from me to you:kittykiss:

Hang in there!!! Nothing easy about this experience, pre-op or post-op, but you WILL get through it!! We are all rooting for you! I am one week post-op, and it does get better, slowly, day-by-day. Don't despair!!

@shrinkette how are you this evening girl? Things are ok here in TN but very cold. A ought as cold as this slab of beef I call a thigh that has no feeling in it what so ever except when the pins and needles shoot through it. Have they had you up for your 1st walk yet? Sending prayers your way!

Wow this is a real test. Looks like rehab for me due to numbness in left foot. Can't walk on it although they had me standing in walker. Couldn't lift leg. Dead,
numb weight. Very painful pins/needles things going on now. I can't identify incision pain, but what happened to the no b-on-b pain? Still feel it in hip. Thigh.

Sorry, a. big downer I know. Don't know what I expected.
On PCA pump -- Dilaudid. Had 1 Norco for breakthrough. They keep ice machine going. Still. No sleep since night before op. forgive the typos. Hope you all do well. Tired. Was really hoping for that miracle but obviously too soon. My fault.

Ellen

Hang on in there Ellen...it will feel better....the first hours / days are difficult but it does get better.....it's your body recovering from the surgery trauma...make sure you have sufficient pain relief too. Each day brings more healing, better movement....thinking of you...Chrissie xxx

Sorry its being difficult. I have some simular stuff. With PT when I was trying to use the Walker both of my legs felt like they were numb inside and kind of dead weight.
I'm not sure what you refer to when you talk on the bone on bone pain but my hips to hurt like crazy right now I don't know that it's the same pain or not because I haven't really been able to get out of bed for more than a second or two.
Everything all of the people here tell me says that this is normal and it will work out and I will feel better.
Physical therapy is excruciating and much more difficult than I anticipated but I do it with a smile and a lot of grimaces) because I still have optimism that, even if it's VERY difficult, everything will work out.
After all it won't take much to be way better than I was before the surgery. I was too far gone and had no range of motion and my life was drastically debilitated.
I understand that this is super difficult. Moreso than I had imagined. I also understand that all of the success stories here on this forum and elsewhere can make it seem like we will "go to the other side" and quickly be just fine.
Here is how I try to look at it: prior to surgery the pain was getting worse and worse with zero chance of it diminishing.
After surgery the pain and work is very hard, but it will, over time, only get better.
The apex of bad is behind me.

Wow, Ellen and DrToonz, sorry it is going poorly in the beginning. You are right, it will get better. I never had the same hip pain but did have pain in the thigh and side of hip (operated area) that definitely required enough pain meds. Moving the leg forward was very hard the first day or so but got much better. I'm sure the fact that your condition was worse than mine to begin with makes it somewhat harder. Try to sleep, get pain relief and it will get better.

@DrToonz and @shrinkette, it looks like we all three had different experiences. I gave a large numb place from hip to knee on the right leg but can feel both hips and feet. I took my first walk on Weds morning with little difficulty. It was easier for me to get myself up and out of bed instead of others pulling on me. I really hope things settle down for you both. It is early on so don't get discouraged. Every time they asked my pain level I said 5 or 6 but they were very good about the meds. I found lifting both my legs at the same time was less painful for me. I am not sure if any of this helps but wanted to share...

@shrinkette SO sorry you are having this trouble. Perhaps I was one of the very lucky ones, but I didn't have any of that with either hip. Just some post op pain, but well managed with meds. They kept me very fuzzy in the hospital. I did have some pain in knees due to manipulation during the surgery. I am hoping your situation improves today and overnight so you don't have to go to rehab.

You're in my prayers and thoughts as always.

Love,
Milli

@DrToonz I'm glad you're on this side now, and I hope you feel better and better each day. I had very little PT in the hospital, mostly just walking and how to get in and out of bed, so that wasn't so bad. Be sure you screech at them if you need more pain meds. I felt so joyous that the op was behind me, and I think I slept or dozed most of the time I was in hospital.

Peace and love to you.

Sending hugs. Sorry you are having difficulties, but please believe that it will only get better. Peggy xoxo
