THR Seeing the Light!

Good news! Sanjay Gupta is doing a THR special and has decided to lift selected BoneSmart quotes from the forum as examples of the trials and tribulations of hip replacement recovery! Congrats @lovesstars!

You are doing just fine @lovesstars
You came through a big surgery, you are doing what your body dictates you need right now...and it will all be worth this down time.

Have a restful easy day.:ice:

So let’s see how this will go. This morning I DROVE THE CAR to take my mom to an appt. While she was at the appt I took a nap, laying down. Then I drove her to a restaurant and dropped her off to have lunch with my son, popped into my favorite store in town for 15 minutes (yes, with walker), drove through Walgreens to pick up more meds and came home. SO FAR SO GOOD. :fingersx:

Great news, lovesstars!
Nerve wracking sometimes driving and thinking somebody ELSE might do something stupid.:ok:

@Mojo333 is that the way it is supposed to go now? Am I supposed to do a little more, push my boundaries a little, then rest and ice hoping I have not entered the ODIC? And every week add a few more things?
I have gotten so used to doing NOTHING that I am not sure how it is supposed to go.
Sure, I have seen the activity guidelines — and for me, at six weeks...I did precisely what it said (go to shops, visit 15-20 min, go back...) but otherwise? Like...restaurant? Movie?

Congrats on the driving and activity.
At six weeks I'd be chomping at the bit to get out. You could most certainly go to a restaurant.
Park close by if you tire easily of walking, or get dropped at the door. Go at an off time if it's a popular restaurant so there's no wait. Go for it....you'll really enjoy it. It makes you feel part of the world again.

Movies too, I'd try it, why not? I hadn't been to a movie in years, and I mean years! I took my granddaughter this Summer several times on $5 Tuesdays. I think lots of theatres have them. I was so surprised. Roomy, comfy soft leather recliners that fully reclined. With room to spare for people to pass you while you're fully reclined. Gone are the days of old where you had to stand up several times to let the mom in the middle of the row take the kid who drank too much soda pop to the restroom three times. Or worry about not getting stuck behind someone with a big head, or big hair, or worse yet....both! The theater is stadium seating, no heads directly in front of you. The floor is carpeted, no shoes sticking to gum or spillled soda. It was unbelievable. Are you sold yet? Go....you'll love it!!

:chinstroke:
I'm not an expert, only through my own experience...but actually...yeah, kind-of.:umm:
I found some of my boundaries the hard way...when I discovered extra discomfort...I dialed it back.
One month and a bit is still early...but you should venture...slowly...just like today.
In another month..more will be possible.:)
Let your body be your guide.
You've got this!
Hope you have a restorative sleep tonight.
That was my biggest obstacle.
Just seemed like I would never get real consecutive hours of sleep.:bored:
Finally happened!
All temporary recovery business!:tada:

If you are going to restaurants @lovesstars a few things to consider.
How high are the loo seats in the restaurant. Just in case!

You might want to bring a trusted firm cushion with you if the restaurant chairs are a bit low.

Finally, I went to restaurants where the staff knew me and was overwhelmed by how kind they all were. And they were so pleased to see me out and about having been well aware of the pain I was in previously..
