@Jaycey Hello, well, day 3 of doing nothing (no stretching or exercises). With my groin still bad at the 4 month post LTHR, can't do much. I'm beginning to think that I may have some kind of tendinitis problem. Should I ice and rest it for 2 to 3 weeks. Does tendinitis heal by itself if I rest it while not stretching or doing the exercises? Feels like I'm starting to go through that darn depressing era again. :( Ya I know, this will all pass but when? Time to watch alot of movies I guess. Take care and happy:) healing everyone, Scott

The tendon issue is a plague, and I think I know exactly how you feel. Mine started to kick up about week 3, and it's been an issue since then. I can't recall if I mentioned this or not, but water walking and a few easy movements seem to be helping it some in my case. Mainly just walking with fuller strides in the water seems to help mine, but I'm on pain meds, and I will continue to be because of it.
I see my surgeon next Friday, and I plan to chat with him about his. I think it's a rather common issue for hippies, but @craftdee has had some luck with water therapy too for hers.

@LibraryLynn Hi, ya I go see my OS next week. I dont have access to a pool right now but I do try to walk with a full stride. Thanks for the info as I will hang in there. Take care, Scott

Good news! I go see my OS tomorrow for xray and inflammation blood test. Not sure what they can see in the blood test though. Keeping my fingers crossed. :)

Hello everyone! Got xray done and inflammation/infection blood test results back. All NEGATIVE! :) OS said I'm only 4 months out LTHR and will have tightness and soreness for at least 2 to 3 more months. I did rest with no exercises and stretching for about a week. Feels little bit better. I actually did leg lifts today for 1st time in about 3 weeks. They felt ok.:) wooooooo! SLOWLY BUT SURELY! :) We all have good and bad days. Well, take care and HAPPY:) HEALING everyone, Scott

@Josephine @Jaycey Hi, my physical therapy is not going so well. When I go to my PT, just seems he doesn't do so much for me. I only go once every 1½-2 weeks. The sessions only last for half hour. Just seems like they try to rush you in and out. I try doing PT at home but have been too sore. If it hurts, I don't do it.

So mainly I'm not doing any PT. I was thinking about hiring a personal PT. That way I can get better treatment and more attention. 4 months now and I just can't seem to get over the hump. :( Plus, I have AVN in my other hip now and it is painful now. I'm in a rut now! What do you think that might be able to help me? I'm going to see my OS tomorrow. Any questions that I should ask him? Well, take care, Scott

Good! Because you really don't need to do any PT. Hips actually don't need much exercise to get better. They do a pretty good job of it all on their own if given half a chance. Trouble is, people don't give them a chance and end up with all sorts of aches and pains and sore spots. All they need is the best therapy which is walking and even then not to excess. So don't waste your money on a private PT, you'll do fine without.

@scottfamilyman , I have done very little PT after my RTHR and frankly I don't feel I really need it. All that leg lift stuff - you do it all anyway everyday. Just keep moving. Slow and steady - you'll get there!

@Jaycey ..:) Thank you! The last 4 months has been an up hill battle and test on me and my beliefs. I had the ups and DOWNS. I think now I have come to the conclusion that hip replacements takes valuable time and patience. Dealing with stress, frustration and depression takes its toll on ones body. I know can just start to see the light and the end of the tunnel! :) Things will get better! Once my LTHR heals, I will have to have the other side done. I only have a year and a half to retire. (Age 56) By the time I retire, I'll have two good hips to retire on. I'll be able to travel a little bit and enjoy my quality of life in my later years. This is a blessing in disguise! We all will get through! Time heals! Thank you everyone and have a great Superbowl Sunday! :)

@Jaycey :) Hello, I've been told that I may have a hip flexor strain or tendinitis in my surgical hip. PT says to keep stretching and icing. Shouldn't I keep resting my situation with ice? Feels like my tendon just keeps me from doing anything! :( Anyone out there experienced this problem? 4 months out now of LTHR, I'm just trying to get over that hump. :) Of course it is hard to do anything with severe pain in right non surgical hip now. As my surgical hip SLOWLY heals, the other hip gets slowly worse. Wow! Anyone with suggestions? Thank you, Scott

Im same at glute level I hv been stretching and prob over exercising but hey. The tendons hv to be worked as if not problem wont go they will contract. Just do as is comfortable ish. Im same other hip and find I try to eork hip replacement one more without realising it. Hope it eases soon

Sounds like you are over doing activity. Yes, I would recommend icing and resting and only gentle stretches. But let's see what the medical expert says @Josephine .

@Jaycey :) I actually had this problem since 2nd month after surgery. I just didn't realize I had this problem, so I just kept going thinking problem would go away. I now have been doing light stretching, rest and ice. Its so stubborn, wont go away. :( I will take your advice as I have already been doing that. One quick question! Would this type of surgery (LTHR), cause my nucleated RBC to rice with the pain meds I take? Just wondering! Thank you!

Well, stretches are often good for tendinitis though this is not to be confused with exercising.

Can you tell me the exact site of your pain using this chart?

Depends what you mean by 'worked'. There is always a limit to how much is good and how much is injurious.

@Josephine :) Hi, my pain is in the groin area. I would say it is located between the C and D mark. DL5F or maybe at DL4F. Just feels like a tendon in that area. Thank you! :)

That sounds like pectinus muscle which is very much used in doing clam shells and similar activities

@Josephine :) Ya, clam shells. I feel lots of tightness when I do them. Gets very sore. So should I stop doing them for now? How about hanging my leg off of the bed, should I? What would you suggest? Thank you, Scott

I would never suggest anyone does clam shells or any other abductor exercise (moving leg outwards). Did you already forget what I said before? That hips actually don't need much exercise to get better. They do a pretty good job of it all on their own if given half a chance. Trouble is, people don't give them a chance and end up with all sorts of aches and pains and sore spots. All they need is the best therapy which is walking and even then not to excess.

For what purpose are you doing this?

@Josephine :) Hi, I haven't been doing the exercises but still doing the stretching. I have listened to you! :) I thought I was to still do the stretching! Am I wrong to do this type of stretching! Should I buy a hip grion support wrap? Probably wouldn't hurt, right? All I do now is ICE, stretch and walk. Thank you!
