No one knows you better than you. So just do what feels good, bottom line.
[Bonesmart.org] scottfamilyman's recovery thread - hip flexor tendonitis

@Josephine , well, I'm scheduled for a bone scan June 17th. Dr doesn't know what's going on. I've been doing nothing for a month now and still have that terrible burning and stinging in groin, thigh and back of leg. I guess he wants to see if there is an infection or something else. Did blood test. My nucleated rbc was 0.1 and 0.4 I don't know what all that means but I'm just taking one step at a time. Maybe my tendon just needs a release. 9 months out since lthr. I've never had any problems like this before. Well, I'm not giving up yet! We'll see! Thanks for your ear. Take care! :(

Sorry to read of the problems you are having. Hopefully they will get to the bottom of it soon. Hang into your positivity-- it helps :)

@scottfamilyman I am watching this thread with great interest. I am having very similar problems 3 months out. My severe groin/ medial thigh pain started immediately following surgery and has not gone away. Please read my recovery thread for more detail.

Unless I am totally misreading your description here, it really sounds more like nerve pain or neuropathy to me. Has your doctor tried you on gabapentin or pregablin to see if it helps?

@Josephine Hi, no my Dr hasn't tried any of those types of meds. He just kept telling me to go to physical therapy in which I stopped 2 months ago. I just sit around at home or maybe walk my dog for about 20 minutes a day. After 9 months I guess he figured it was time for a bone scan. He wants to make sure there are no bone fragments floating around or no infections. I did mention to him about it might be nerve problem but he said no. If my bone scan test comes up negative, next step would be ultrasound or mri. I try to stay upbeat but it's very hard after 9 months from LTHR. I still haven't gone back to work yet as a Postal letter carrier. I have a great Federal Government lawyer that is handling my workman comp case so I can get this approved as job related. I only have 1 and a half years to retire. I have been without a paycheck for last 3 months. It's a good thing I had money put away for emergencies like this. My wife does better than I do and she has been very supportive and understanding. :) Everyone, thank you for your support and helpful information. By the way, anyone have some info on high nucleated RBC? I will give you updated info after my June 17th bone scan. Hope everyone is healing out there. Be patient! :) Take care, Scott :)

Can you run around him and go straight to a neurologist? Just for an opinion?

@Josephine Hi, my Dr wants to do the bone scan 1st. I will bring this up to him though. If I were to have tendinitis, would I have all this nerve pproblem? Are there alot of nerves that are connected to tendons? Thank you! I will keep you informed on what I find out. Thank you!

I was more thinking that your doctor (by which I presume you mean surgeon!) appears to be floundering around looking for something to blame. An I did previously quote this with the comment that this description appears to be nerve pain rather than tendinitis.
and still have that terrible burning and stinging in groin, thigh and back of leg
There are a lot of nerves running alongside the muscles and ligaments in your leg so it would be alternative he should be considering. Since he's not, then it would seem logical to see a neurologist and you don't have to ask his permission to do so.

BTW, tendinitis is not specifically to do with tendons! It just means a generalised inflammation of the soft tissues in a specific area.

Hi @scottfamilyman
I have read your thread w interest. I am 5 weeks post Left THR revision. My OS had me do 3 weeks of in home PT w strict instructions that if it hurt~ stop. He said he only wants me to walk and walk. I went through a few days of set back and stopped the PT exercises and I am better. Now I asked my OS if I should go to PT out of my home. He said not for a while if at all because they tend to be too aggressive and I can be injured. So I am just walking! I hope you are doing well by now. My plan is to return to work by week 12. I hope it's a good plan. Fingers crossed and many prayers!

Oh and I meant to tell you that my original problem was a big issue~ inflammation vs infection? Sounds like this might be where you are headed~ Bonescan shows something going on but not what it could be! It was blood work and an aspiration to find I had infection. I also went to an infectious disease doc and appreciated his input. Just thought sharing my experience could help. I hope you find answers!

Hi @Josephine , Hi @Sullivand yes I belong to a big nation wide medical unit (Kaiser). There good but they like to wait along time before doing anything. They like to wait as long as they can before I started complaining alot. Bone scan is just 1st step. If test comes up negative than I'll push for MRI. I believe I was pushed to hard and fast by PT. @Sullivand is right just like you said too, walking and taking it slow is the best medicine. :) I'm at the point where I actually hope they find something so they can fix it. well, thank you both for the input and @Sullivand , heal fast and take care, Scott

Yes, I believe most of the problem is my nerves. Burning, stinging and painful! I'm staying positive that in due time, this all will go away! :) I can't wait to stop taking pain meds. I just keep reaching for the stars! Take care! :)

Please don't tag me unless you want me for something specific - which you are always very welcome to do, by the way - what I would prefer you didn't do is tag me in the course of conversation.
I already get heaps every day as it is!

Hi, I'm back! :) Well, had my bone scan done. Results showed no infection, new hip is intact. :) It did show that I now have bursitis. :( Went back to my OS and told him I still have groin and thigh stinging and burning. I did show him that I now have a hard lump in my thigh right under my skin. I do have some varicose problems already in the same leg but thats down in the calf area. This little lump is on the inside of my thigh. I was thinking this might be a varicose vein problem. Don't know! My OS said maybe I have a hernia. So no he has scheduled me for an ultrasound. He did tell me that tendons don't show up well on ultrasounds. Hmmmm! He also prescribed me a 5 day prescription of METHYLPREDNISOLONE 4mg. This seems to be working for my sore muscles but not for my stinging and burning coming from the lump area to the groin. I do still have tightness from the tendon in the groin. Maybe this is just like my OS has said, just tendonitis. My PT says it sounds like groin pull or hip tendonitis. I haven't done anything for about 2 months now, just short walks. Oh ya, forgot to mention that where I have that little lump in the thigh there is also some discoloration like a bruise. Don't know! Anyway, I will keep you posted once I get ultrasound results back. You all get healthy and take care, Scott :) @whiteshoecovers @Sullivand @Jaycey @Poppet

@scottfamilyman
So good to hear from you today! So glad you are not fighting infection. It sounds like the meds you are on is helping a bit~ sorry about the burning pain though. You are doing the right thing by resting and only walking for exercise. I am up to a slooooow mile using my cane but today I actually did chores around my home without it. A milestone! I hope your ultrasound gives you some answers. Hang in there!
