Leg lifts are the hardest. I do 10 reps of leg lifts aday. I lay on my back and lift my hips slightly while tightening butt cheeks about 10 reps twice daily. Clam shells, 10 reps twice daily, hang my leg over side of bed 3 reps twice daily.
If you stop all this exercise does the tightness ease? I found all these exercises made me sore as well (I am just over 12 weeks out). Walking is the best exercise post THR. I have a feeling you are just asking too much of that new hip.

Hi again, ok, I'm 13 weeks out for LTHR (anterior) and still using my cane. Sometimes around the house I don't use it but then I still have pains and limp around. I still take oxycodone 5-325 mg 2 to 3 times daily. I stopped the exercises except for all the stretching. It just seems like I'm not getting better. I'm staying positive! LTHR was done because of AVN. Is this why my muscles and tendons seem so tight and sore all the time? I use hot and cold gel packs too. Am I whining to much to early or is all this normal? Oh yaaaaa, leg lifts! Having hard time doing 10 of them. My PT just says keep doing all exercises. :( Nobody knows the pain other than ME. All the pain meds, should I keep taking them? If anyone has any suggestions out there, PLEASE HELP! I'll just keep praying! :) At only 54 years old and 187 pounds, I sure do miss being on the go ( hiking, walks, shopping). Do I sound frustrated? Well, I am! Thank you everyone who listens. Take care, Scott

scott I am going to tag our Forum Nurse Director, @Josephine to help you with the questions about AVN. 13 weeks out from TKA is really early in the recovery process. Many folks take pain meds for this amount of time. If you are still limping, it is a good idea to use a cane so that you don't develop an uneven gait.

@scottfamilyman I merged your other thread into your recovery thread. So that we can track your progress we ask that you keep your recovery questions on one thread.

Before Jo answers you question about AVN can you please confirm that you have stopped all the exercises as we suggested earlier?
My PT just says keep doing all exercises.
Doesn't sound like it!

As a person who is also 13 weeks out I suggest you ease off the exercises and see if things improve. I have not done any aggressive PT and am not seeing the symptoms of tightness and soreness. Until you change this activity I really don't think you will see this ease. Just my opinion.

Hi, ya not much pt now, just stretching. Stretching feels ok afterwards. Ok, no PT at home for short while, just light stretching. I'll keep taking pain meds because they do take edge off of me, which makes me feel back to normal. I'lltake my daily llimited walks too. I just worry because my dept of labor hasn't been approved yet for my job. I've been using my sick leave and vacation time for last 4 months, which is about to run out. (Postal Service) Thank you everybody, I'll try! :)

Hi, I feel alot of pain in the CR2F area and slightly lower in the groin area as illustrated in the diagram posted by Josephine.

Hello, ok I walked around shopping for couple of hours with my wife. Boy did I get fatigued! I did use my cane as I still can't walk without a limp and pain in groin and upper thigh area. I did try taking 2 500mg of Tylenol and one 800mg ibuprofen. It helped a lil bit. I feel better if I take one 325mg oxycodone. 13 to 14 weeks out now. No exercises today and for the rest of this week to see if I feel any better. I read all the forums out there how people who had THR, return to work, riding a bike and so on after just 3 to 4 months. More power to you all but I get down a lil bit. Like I said before, I'm a postal letter carrier of 33 years and have a very demanding job (lifting, squatting, pulling, walking and so on). My wife has been very supportive! :) Well tomorrow is nothing but rest because my wife goes back to work after having whole week off. Rest time! Lol One question! My groin area still is pretty tight and has pain and slight burning sensation. Is that just the muscles and tissues healing or what? Well, talk to you all soon. I still feel like I'm a newbe here but right now I like all the support out there. I can use it! I know, no pitty here. Take care, Scott

The fatigue you feel is part of this recovery. One of the articles I left for you (see post number 6) was Energy drain for THRs Energy drain is real and it can hit hard. I found if I planned one day of activity followed by a rest day it worked. Pretty soon the rest days get shorter.

Sounds like you are taking too much Tylenol at one time (or maybe I am reading this wrong)?
I did try taking 2 500mg of Tylenol and one 800mg ibuprofen.
If the oxycondone works for you please take it. Until you start forgetting doses.

Every THR recovery is different. I know you are frustrated but unfortunately what you are experiencing is post op pain. Rest, ice and elevate. The tightness and burning is soft tissues and muscles healing. Just go with it for now. Things will ease if you give them a chance.

Hi Jaycey, ya thats what I thought. Just healing! ") As for oxycodone 325mg, that does work for me. Just woke up lil stiff and lil sore. Going to rest alot today. You and everyone out there are right, TIME HEALS.. One question, have you or anyone out there heared of Raki Energy Healing? Just wondering! Well thank you for your good friendly advice and have a Awesome day, Scott :)

anyone out there heared of Raki Energy Healing?
I think it's called Reiki Healing. Yes I have heard of it but have no experience with it. Perhaps other members will be along soon to comment.

Oooops your right. Typing too fast. Believe or not, this does work. Have used it 3 to 4 times. :) Nobody has to believe it, that's ok. They have now started this Reiki Healing in some hospitals for few patients and Military Veterans out here at Loma Linda, Ca Hospital. Ok, thank you Jaycey :)

Reiki is practiced quite extensively in Australia and providing it is conducted by a well trained practitioner it can be quote effective for some folk. I experienced this modality of treatment by a well known Japanese practitioner many years ago when I injured my back and found it helped. The trick is to find the right practitioner.

Hi PoppetM, yes you are absolutely correct! Actually, my wife is a Reiki Master 3 years now.: She has ton of people coming to see her. She is Phsyic Medium aswell. She reminds me of Teresa Caputo on the hit show" Long Island Medium. She doesn't advertise it, just by word of mouth. I feel just like Larry, your husband on the show. Ok, back to Reiki, this is not for everyone. You really have to be open to all this. Well, thank you for your advice and take care, Scott

Hi, Tuesday morning! One day closer to the weekend. Oh waiit, everyday is a weekend for me, still not working. :) Feeling lil better. Less stiffness and soreness, for now. Going to PT in couple of hours. Hope I come out of PT with little more, feeling like I accomplished something. All good!:) Happy speedy recovery to you all, Scott
