THR Sarak - There's Life After a Hip Replacement

Hope you are getting rest this weekend @SaraK and your “part-time” work wasn’t too draining.

Hi @SaraK
Wondering if you have a cookie hangover after sampling each type your friend baked?
Also wondering how you liked "The Crown?
Both sound like perfectly acceptable recovery activities to me. Hopefully you were able to log a
few more hours in your bed this weekend, as opposed to the recliner. It will come :sleep:
Wishing you a great Sunday :flwrysmile:

I am hoping you are having a peaceful day. Your recovery is the most important thing right now.
Hope today is a Good Day:loveshwr:

Hey girl,
Missing your sunny posts. Hope work has lightened up for you.
At the very least until the end of the year. You seemed to be progressing
nicely, hope it's continued.
Countdown to Christmas.....are you ready, Sara?
:wreath: :tree lights:
Best wishes for a great day!
@SaraK

Hey lady....what you up to? @SaraK
I know it's a busy time of year for all. I hope your recovery is going well.
Three weeks tomorrow already. Would love to hear an update before the holidays.
Miss you!
Wishing you a very :merry christmas: and happy, healthy 2018!

Merry Christmas everyone! :santa sleigh:
I'm continuing to progress and (other than a recent bout with strep throat with a bonus sinus infection) doing well. I'm going to the gym almost every day and worked out with my trainer last Saturday (upper body and exercises I already do for PT). I'm now starting to use the weight machines with a low weights. I won't have my first post op visit until January 2 so I'd asked about limits on weights and exercises etc with OS before surgery.

The only time I've used the cane in the last week was after I pulled something during a particularly violent sneezing fit. I still limp a little if I'm not thinking about it but that's improving all the time. My flexibility and range of motion is improving but more to work on. I can put on socks and tie shoes but it requires a bit of contortionism.

I hope everyone enjoys the holiday and continues to improve. May 2018 be a year of health for all!

Good news @SaraK! Good to hear from you. Pulled something from a sneezing fit! My brother will sometimes throw his neck out from those. What type of exercises on weight machines? Those scare me to death, but your recovery is different-that super path sounds like a game changer.

Hope you are over step throat and sinus infection-both nasty things.

:merry christmas:

@MammaT - At this point I'm doing 20 lbs on adductor, abductor, glute press and seated leg press. I'd been doing about 70 lbs on each before surgery. PT suggested a couple of other machines but I haven't tried them yet. I try only 2 new ones a day and without weight the first time. That way I can see which, if any, cause issues and avoid those. Just like first surgery, biggest issue for pain is the hip flexor so I concentrate on a lot of stretches for that and stay away from some things (especially too many stairs and leg lifts) that will cause that to twang. It calmed down at about the 4 week point last time, so I hope those issues go away soon! As long as I don't irritate that, though, I have little pain - I don't even ice very much any more!

We caught the strep early. I saw the NP Thursday, the first day it was bothering me. We were planning trip to my mom's and wanted to rule out strep before we went. Ended up ruling it in and canceling the trip. But the antibiotics have kicked in and I feel good today. Now to figure out what I'm cooking tonight and tomorrow!

Think it would take me awhile to get up to 20 pounds! But I think what you were doing pre-surgery will impact post. I am just trying to keep up with bike, new hip likes it more than old. Doing a bit dumbbells to help with arm strength. Glad strep was caught early.

My son is taking care of most of the cooking. Putting roast in crockpot overnight, veggies tomorrow. I get the mandarin orange salad and steamed vegetables too bad you couldn’t make trip to mom’s, but probably sensible. Don’t get that leg twanging!

@SaraK
It's so wonderful to read an update. You're thriving!
Sorry you're sick :mcoffee: and had to cancel the trip to mom's :bawl:

Hopefully you decided on a menu for tonight and tomorrow.
This is a crazy Christmas for us. We celebrated big last evening.
Once the kids are grown and married, as mine are, they get pulled in different directions with parents and in-laws.
With the luxury of an extra day to celebrate this year (Saturday) we took advantage choosing the odd
day, eliminating pressure for our adult children. We're quiet here tonight, not our normal Christmas Eve.
Tomorrow will be low key, casual for a few hours.

Hoping your holidays are merry and bright!
Hugs and best wishes for a happy, healthy 2018!

@SaraK season's greetings to you and of course to all on BS sorry you have picked up bug but you seem to be beating it well . Pleased your recovery is progressing so well here's to a healthy happy New year. Thanks for all your advice and support.

:reindeerlights:@SaraK great to hear that you are doing so well! Have a very Merry Christmas!

@SaraK I sure hope your Christmas was merry, and I can already see your New Year will be full of promise. You have had an amazing recovery thus far...no derailing it now, promise?
Hope today is a great day:re-snowman:

Hey Sara, @SaraK
How is recovery going? You're coming up on 4 weeks already in a mere 3 days!
Wondering what big plans you have for NYE...
I'm sure it will be more exciting than mine.....I'll live vicariously through you :heehee:
:dancy::happydance::spin::wowspring:

I agree @SaraK! Good to see you share experience around the site. Hope your exercise is progressing well.

@MammaT - I mentioned on someone else's thread that I got a fitbit for Christmas. I tried to get my 10,000 steps in yesterday (in addition to PT). I was feeling it some last night - had a heating pad on my lap for the hip flexor and an ice pack on the back of my hip! On average, the temp was good. :heehee:. All better by this am but I reset the device for a 6,000 step goal for now. 10K is a lot - I cycled 5 miles and walked a mile in addition to my normal movements and it was still close! I have PT again tomorrow and working with my trainer on Sat (but I'll control what we do and nothing that will irritate hip flexor - that's my Achilles heel again this time).

@Layla - would it surprise you to hear that dancing is in my future - Friday night and NYE. :dancy: First time I've gone out for NYE in FOREVER!

Then my first post op appt is next Tues (1 month).

Have a wonderful New Year!

Mine is set for 6,000. Get in 10,000 a couple of times a week. That’s a lot of movement! Shocked to hear of dancing!
