THR Sarah Bee (Re)Learns to Walk.

Oh my goodness. I fell so far behind on everyone's threads that it has taken me an hour to catch up, without comments to anyone! I will need to go back and read some again.

When I saw my surgeon just before discharge, he said I could drive as soon as I was no longer taking pain meds. Yesterday evening, I drove my grandson to the library to return some books (my husband was along) and then to pick up laundry detergent. No issues, was able to stop "suddenly" , although the neighbors seemed confused as to why I stopped in the middle of the street for no reason. :heehee: I hope my PT can give me pointers on getting in and out of the car a little easier......

I am pleasantly surprised that my activities don't seem to have landed me in the ODIC ..... So far. Will get my two walks in today because it is a lovely day in the neighborhood.

Way to go @SarahBee !!! Good job with your trip yesterday! And it's hard to keep up with all of the posts even if it's only been overnight!! So happy to hear you're doing so much better. Enjoy your day!!

Very exciting milestone in your recovery! :wowspring:

If you find out any tips on getting in and out of car please share. That is one place that I need ice to recover from.

Isn't it crazy?! This group coming through is decent sized and you all interact with one another so quickly it does take time to catch up. Sometimes when I log on in the morning I'm surprised at all the exchanges that have already occurred. Where's the head spinning emoji? :heehee:

It's good though as you're all so caring and supportive of one another. Somedays I conclude you all are self sufficient here. I think you'll have fond memeories of your recovery buds. I know I do of mine.

Getting behind the wheel again is liberating. Even if you don't go anywhere often initially, it's nice to know you're comfortable with it all :driver: beep, beep.
Enjoy your walk and have a great Sunday!

Let's talk about groin pain.... I haven't had it but think I do now. I'm getting sharp.pains in my groin that are for a split second debilitating! I gather this is an end product of all the walking I'm doing and my pelvis shifting back to where it should be.

My original xray, which I studied today for the first time, shows the left side of my pelvis in a reasonable position, with the right side much higher. I'm guessing at some point this is all going to shift around. Questions, questions!

Hi SaraBee,
I am lucky enough to own a Tahoe which is tall. It has handles so I could haul myself in and then I could just slide out. I am also tall, which helped. They do make handle things to help you in and out of your car but by the time you order it from Amazon, you won't need it!

Funny-ish story about my right hip replacement. As you can imagine, it took longer to be able to drive after that one. At 4 weeks out, my son had appendicitis. I couldn't drive him to the hospital, so his girlfriend, who had only ever driven little cars, jumped in like a trooper and drove us down in the Tahoe. (50 miles to the hospital that took our insurance). I had been so proud that I wasn't limping at that point, but didn't realize how slow I had been walking until I had to race around the hospital after my son who was being pushed very fast in a bed all over the place! I must have been quite a sight, limping along after them going "wait, wait, I just had a hip replacement!"

Funny how we are all products of our experiences. This afternoon, as my grandson passed by, he bumped my right foot. Not lightly but no damage. Poor child absolutely froze in place, waiting for the scream, whimper, crying or whatever from the pain. He said, oh, I'm sorry Grandma! My response, it's okay. He said, I was waiting. It really didn't hurt? Poor kid. It has hurt all his life and he was ready! Another important milestone. This one for him!

@KathyD he is a good kid. Yep, this has been on going since about 2004, getting progressively worse. I see my OS on the May 7 and I'm going to ask about my left hip. It has some arthritis but also has some cartilage remaining so want to see what he recommends. On a positive note, I will have met my annual out of pocket.

Insurance out of pocket was part of my bilateral decision! I was clear that if the surgery was reverted to a single, then expect to see me again in a few months!

I’m still cringing over my partial knee replacement that got reverted to a full only two years later... waste of my time AND money!!

@JennyLynne, I had so little faith in what this surgery would accomplish, or what damage it might do, that I decided to wait. My left is still pretty functional so I would have it to lean on, literally. I'm glad you have yours behind you and are doing so well. You bilateral folks amaze me!
