@Chessie My OS didn't say anything about restrictions just to use my walker. I went for a walk again today feels good to get out. I did have to start my pain medication back up as my pain was breaking through. Plus my left hip is hurting since it hasn't been replaced. Now old injuries in my shoulders has resurfaced and now has gotten hard to push myself up out of a chair.

I agree with starting back on the pain med if pain is present. I honestly think I might be somewhat premature on using the cane myself, but I wanted to get out. I am making myself continue the walker at home because if I walk without it, I limp. And it seems to me that all that does is train me to limp. I have PT coming tomorrow and I am going to discuss this with them. I sure don't want to sabatoge my own recovery. :)

Yep RB, same here. I had a friend crank the chainsaw and then hand it to me so I could run it. Big no no, it hurts to do things like that and I am at day 28! Walk, don't do anything but walk that is about it and it is tough to stick to that isn't it?

It is! I was starting the chain saw for my dad lol. My hip is still hurts because of it. Still haven't caught up on pain management yet almost there though.

Well last night I tried to sleep on my belly it felt good but at some point through the night I rolled over. Not sure how I did but my operated hip is now sore. I have also been having some pain in my heel of my operated leg. The heel pain is kinda high. I'm not using anything to elevate my leg just lying on my back. Do any of you have this problem or had???

Well I have not yet tried to sleep on my stomach, but I am 10 days behind you, so I think it would be premature for me to do that. As far as elevation - yes I always elevate my surgical leg in bed. I was told to do so. Did you do that the first couple of weeks at least?

I did for a bit but I was getting really bad pain in my heel. Now I am getting the pain in my heel again.

@rbtaylor14 , I was reading an old blog here from someone who had there surgery in early 2014 and they said the dislocated their hip sleeping on their stomach, not sure how, but that what it said.

I have never ending pins and needles in the foot of my operated leg, but not specific to my heel.

@rbtaylor14, you need a good spanking. You are doing all the wrong things...what's up with that?? You shouldn't be sleeping on your stomach! You should have your leg elevated, maybe with your heel hanging loose so as not to rub! Don't cut back on your pain meds yet! And, for Pete's sake, leave the chainsaw alone! OMG!!!

Behave yourself if you want a successful recovery...and I mean that in the sweetest way possible...haha!

@beachgal I didn't know that I couldn't lay on my belly. I have gone back to taking my pain medication now.

Oh my gosh I just don't think that is a good reason to not elevate your leg!! How were you elevating - what were you using? I stack two pillows and elevate my surgical leg (left) on that, which puts no pressure on my heel. My non-surgical leg I usually bend a bit and lay to the right, on a smaller pillow, just enough to give a little support and that gives my heel a break from directly laying on the bed all night. That all-night direct contact is what is causing the heel-pain. Which ever leg is having the heel pain, roll up a small soft blanket and place under your ankle to get the heel off the bed. That will take care of it.

I was using a pillow to elevate both legs. But it was keeping me up at night and causing pain in my hip so i stopped using the pillow and just went to lying on my back.

@rbtaylor14, you sound like my hubby! MEN! UGH!!! No, seriously, you've got to be super-careful even with no restrictions...pretend like you have them, whether you do or not....give that new hip a good start.....I'm not scolding at all, just want you to continue with excellent recovery and rehab! I know it must be hard to remember what you should and shouldn't do. Only wishing the best for you, my dear!

@LoyalD I don't think that I will be sleeping on my belly again for a while. I'm so thankful that I didn't dislocate my hip last night. I'm not having pins and needels in foot just the heel pain.

I don't understand how elevating would cause hip pain. Are you sure you are elevating it correctly? Use at least TWO bed pillows, even three - not one. And try just elevating one leg, and resting the other a bit sideways against a small pillow.

I know that you are just looking out for me. Thank you. It is very hard to remember everything at this point. Also i am having the weirdest twitching going on. My operated side will twitch and then my operated side arm and then my left side will twitch. It happens at any time but mostly when I'm sitting in the recliner trying to take a nap.

@LoyalD no I guess I wasn't doing it correctly, I was only using one pillow.

Now with having my surgery my shoulders are acting up. Manly my left shoulder. The pain is severe enough that i can't use my left arm to push myself up out of a chair.

@rbtaylor14, since you've been where I'm going, I can't advise about the twitching but I know sometimes it's caused by little nerve endings waking up or such...perhaps it's a side effect of your surgery. You have just put your body through trauma and it may be responding in kind. If it's just annoying, that's ok. If it's painful, that's something else. The "chore" of trying to relax may be the trigger meaning that you should probably be doing more of the relaxing than you have been. It's a journey, remember, not a race.

Well that was me telling you that, LOL, but no matter. I'm really just trying to help you - not trying to be a know-it-all or anything - this is all new to me too! But I know what is working for me, so just thought I would share that. :) Give it a try the next couple of nights and see how it goes. Make sure you are controlling your pain with your meds, okay?

Have you ever had issues with your shoulders before? Were they strong before surgery or out of shape?
