Bruising is starting to show today. Just slightly on the top of my thigh. I'm also not supposed to be weight bearing either.

Now I get it too, thank you! VERY nice. (Teehee)

By the way, before you gave us reference points, it looked like a giant skin covered peanut. :)

OK...you need to behave a little longer. I can put weight on mine next Tues, and I just today decided to cheat a little, ease into Tuesday, and try some half weight now. I certainly do get, tho, wanting desperately to move forward.

Question for you hippies that have had your implant for sometime. How does the weather affect it? Like winter time and storms.

RB, I am not in the snow much but when you ice your hip wouldn't that be like a snowstorm temp wise? Ha, I don't know but I have ice on my hip and it gets pretty dang cold. Maybe someday they will sell a model that we can plug in the wall, kinda like a block heater on an engine, LOL.

@rbtaylor14
I like the reply from @waterman1 .... good idea.
Well, no snow yet for me.... but, have been thru plenty of barometric changes with strong
thunderstorms and crazy high humidity with NO notice of any effect.

I have though seen posts from some that can predict the weather....

Here is my incision 8 days after surgery. Not looking to bad. I really haven't had any bruising to speak of. It's sore but not bad.

@rbtaylor14 , how is your pain level? As you can tell, I am three week out of my surgery and had a rough beginning. I am still in pain levels of 4, sometimes 5. How long do you think we stay on pain medication? I am amazed that some people much older than me (50), are taking nothing or on Tylenol, when I am still counting hours between meds.

@LoyalD My pain level is around a 3 to a 4. I'm on celebrex, lyrica, oxicontin, and hydrocodon. Some days my pain level goes above a 6. Just depends on how much activity I have done. I also have pain still in my left leg as I haven't had it replaced yet. I have a bad back also. The biggest problem that I have is muscle spasms in my right leg. I also have been awakened by my whole body spasms which hurts like hell because I can't control it. We all are different and our bodies handles pain in a different way. This is something that I would discuss with your OS. Pain control is very important to your healing.

Hey RB, how are you doing my man? Where are we, Day 8 or so, right? Take your pain meds, ice alot, seen any good movies lately?

@waterman1 yes day 8. I'm doing better than I thought I would. Today I have been able to take about 10 steps to the toilet and then 10 steps back to my walker. Felt great to walk without anything. I ice maybe twice a day believe it or not. Been keeping up on my pain management but I have thought about cutting back on them some but a little afraid to because I don't wanna let it go and it be hard to catch back up. I really haven't watched much TV been sitting outside a lot listening to the birds.

RB, I did not ice so much with my first hip, but did ice much more with the second hip. It really makes a difference. Keep laying down. The swelling will begin to travel down the leg to the foot around day 10. The more you elevate and ice, the less swelling you will have. The only way I could elevate and ice was to watch movies. Sounds like you are getting better and that is great. Remember, that titanium has got to bond with bones and muscles and it takes time my man. Wishing you the best recovery possible :)

Well I have been feeling well but down. Sleeping has been hit and miss. Not because of pain but I can't get comfortable. I can't lay on my surgical side (of course) but trying to lay on my left side I can for only a few minutes and then I start to get pinching pain in my hip. I put a pillow and all. I see my OS on the 24th for the first time since being discharged from the hospital. I think that at that time we will discuss my LTHR also. I also think that part of my problem is just not being able to do what I normally do till I heal. [emoji17]

RB, great to hear from you. I remember well not getting sleep at night, and catching some good naps during the day. Laying flat on your back for weeks is your new reality. Last night was my first, my very first night sleeping on my surgical hip that is about 15 weeks post op. Over time you will get better sleeping on your back, tough to deal with. You are tough and your heart and spirit got you this far. I agree with getting the other hip done ASAP. I cannot tell you how good it feels to be pain free, worth every moment of drama over the last 100 days or so to get to this poiint in time.

Thanks @waterman1 I do look forward to a pain free life. Just felt like I needed to vent some. I do a lot of sitting outside and there is a cardinal that sings to me while I'm out. Just nice and relaxing.

Well I'm at day 13 now. I've been thinking about cutting back on my pain medication today and also going for a walk down the road a bit. I'm thinking that this might help out with the numbness that I'm having in my right side of my backend. Feels very strange.

Day 13 seems early to cut back on pain meds. I found the compression sock helps with all numbness in the operated leg and area, and the dreaded pins and needles.

With the compression sock did you keep it on all day or just while sleeping? When I say cutting back on the pain medication I'm on oxicontin ever twelve hours and on hydrocodon ever four hours. Im thinking about only taking the hydrocodon three times a day instead of every four hours.

Well today i went 10 hours without taking my hydrocodon. I went for a walk block and half. Helped my dad split firewood. I sat in a chair and moved the handle. I also tried to start his chainsaw right as my mother and wife came home. I got yelled at pretty good. I am really sore but I have no one to blame but myself.

@rbtaylor14 , Did you OS give you any specific orders as to when you would be weight-bearing? It sounds strange to me, but I recieved no weight-bearing restrictions - just "as tolerated". Also, yesterday (day 4) I walked at the park to a picnic bench where I sat and read, while my BF ran - I used the cane. I felt fine. A bit tired when we got back, but no issues. We went out again today for a short while. I just get cabin fever staying in all the time. I did start cutting back on the pain meds yesterday - only taking at night - and I'll see how that goes. I'm having yucky nausea from them, and I can't stand it. The pain isn't that bad that I need to put up with the accompanying discomfort of nausea. Also, my PT people told me I did not have to wear the TED hose at night - so I might go without tonight.
