THR RinTinTin Recovery Thread

@Elf1... I feel like I have no choice. I was a risk taker my entire life and never listened to the warning signs my body was sending me. I always thought those are aches and pains from the activities I was doing... and thought it would go away.
I don't want to make the same mistake again. This site and countless advices from Moderators and Forum Advisors made me realize that there is no race when it comes to recovery after hip surgeries.
Not saying that some people can't simply sail through it... but I am too big chicken and don't want to be in pain anymore

I have been accused of being a devil-may-care type most of my life too...but I felt the same way regarding my hip replacement recovery.
Not as terrible as I imagined, not fun enough to want to have to do it again to fix something I glommed up.
I never asked him why but I've heard they will do it only if you are in a wheelchair and completely unable to walk
Glad they didn't make me wait that long, but in trying to envision how my condition would have progressed had I not got this done...I'm certain I would've been close to it.

Hope your weekend is sweet!

Hellooo @RinTinTin

How's it going? Anything exciting to report on with your recovery? I know you are in a holding pattern of sorts so it's probably a balancing act, still.
Ihope you have things to do to keep your mind busy while you wait. :bath:

Helo @CricketHip
I am just in a waiting mode. My left hip is really bad... even walking with the walker is challenging. So, I am not doing much for the last 2 weeks, just babying the lefty so nothing bad happens to it before the Dec 03.
I am afraid that even the recovery of my right hip is jeopardized as I am unable to properly perform the PT exercises.
Thanks for asking :loveshwr:

I also had to wait it a bit between my two surgeries, I had about 2 1/2 months to deal with as my unoperated leg got worse and worse. I wouldn’t worry about the recovery of the first hip. It’ll have plenty of time to get up to steam after the second one is done. At this point In time I’d be most concerned with keeping the second hip as comfortable as possible to get you to your second operation date.

Well put @ceezee. I remember your hip did very well even though you were on non weight bearing for many weeks. @RinTinTin I am so sorry about Lefty.. you are very wise in proceeding cautiously.
Thanks for checking in.. You will get there.. 2020 is going to be a good year for a lot of us!

This is exactly what's going on here with me... I got no choice but exercise the patience and be careful so nothing worse happens to the righty before it is due to get out of my body.
:)

You are definitely taking the right approach. Ease off the PT - that first hip will play catchup when the left is done. There is just no sense in causing yourself more pain (says one who stupidly tried to exercise a collapsed hip).

You have this and are doing really well, just keep taking it slow and baby that other hip. You're less than a month out now! :happydance:

Countdown to double hippydom for RinTinTin:dancy:
I must finally recite my favorite quote from the book Rin Tin Tin

It's human nature to set a point in our minds when we feel triumphant and to measure everything that comes after it by how far we fall or rise from that point.

In hip recovery, we must keep ever present in our mind that our current situation is not an indicator of our ultimate capabilities.
Time is a great healer and new triumphs will come.
It makes the rewards even sweeter.

Have a great week, friend.

Wishing you comfort as you wait.
Not long now. I hope you're finding many periods of relief throughout the day and evening.
Take care.

@RinTinTin

Luckily nothing hurts if I am sitting or lying down. It hurts only when I bear my weight on it.
Unfortunately, I had to cut down all the activities I had including the PT exercises. My daily walking is down to 1000 - 2000 steps :(

I'm sorry, thankfully there's a light at the end of the tunnel.
I see it flickering down there....see it?
Hold on....Relief is in sight.

Started with second round of pre-op appointments.
Had a blood test, ECG done today and got the green light from the Internal Medicine Specialist today.
3 weeks to go!
:)

Good news! I'm happy for you that things are in motion.
I hope the next three weeks fly so you can begin / continue healing and move forward in life without pain.
You've been a good patient...practicing patience and a great supporter of others here, may it come back to you tenfold. Wishing you comfort as you wait and a great rest of the week!
@RinTinTin

@RinTinTin I am glad that resting helps you with the pain. That is what I have to do many times during the day. Before I get up to walk, I look around and think if there is anything that needs to go where I am going or can drop off along the way, to save steps.
Sounds like you are on your way towards your next successful surgery.
