OK 8 weeks today and my bravery decides to make an appearance. I had been looking into water aerobics classes so I went and toured the Family Y near where I live. I found out that they offer Aqua Zumba as well as line dance classes, several levels of yoga, several levels of Zumba as well as really nice equipment. :thumb: So after discussing it with my hubby, we both decided to join!! I jumped into a class called Fit After 50 today and did the entire class. It was a lot of stretching, using light weights and bands as well as working on balance. And tomorrow is my first Aqua Zumba class, WOOHOO!!:yahoo: I am going to start out doing the line dance class on Tues, hubby and I are going to do Silver Sneakers on Wed and then Aqua Zumba on Thursday. I plan to try to start yoga a little later on, just need to get a mat first. :thankyou:@Jp9294 Jackie, just wanted to let you know that you were my motivation to give this a try. Here's hoping that I am not undertaking too much to start.:yikes: I am going to let my body be my guide and be sure to ice afterward for the first few times just to be sure. To top that off, I didn't sleep good last night as usual, so I have managed to stay up all day :mcoffee: so far, and will try to wait til at least 9 to go to bed tonight. Here's hoping it changes my crazy sleep schedule.

Sounds like lots of fun! I've been working on getting hubby to join gym with me .....

The aqua zumba and line dancing in pool sound super! I cannot wait to get into the outdoor pool when it
opens memorial day.
I love yoga, too.... Did easy basic yoga before I stopped. But, I would suggest thicker mat you can find.
I have a real thick exercise mat (one inch thick) that doesn't hurt my knees like the flat mats for yoga would.
I'm sure the teachers don't mind what kind of mat you use, but the thin ones on wood floors can be uncomfy.

I am thrilled for you! You go girl!

That sounds like so much fun! You are doing fantastic. I will be 4 weeks tomorrow and really feel like I've turned a corner. I can't wait to get back in the gym!

Good for you @mystikfairy61 . I can't wait to get back to the gym either to swim and do weights again. I have to wait until after my second hip replacement next week. Soon it will all be over!!

@MajorHeidi Thanks regarding the mat, will look for a thicker one with my knee issue for sure. I am looking forward to going. Will keep you all updated on how it goes. I laid down for over two hours and sleep keeps evading me so I got up. You would think I would have been so tired I would have practically passed out. But no, not me, I am still awake. DRATS!!

Well went to the Y today and did a 45 minute class of Zumba Gold!! :wowspring:I just got home and am going to ice just to be sure. Was a little stiff when I first got out of the car but no pain. I feel pretty sure I will have some muscle soreness later this evening or tomorrow simply because I haven't exercised in a while. I am tired but overall feel great and actually feel like that was my first step toward normalcy.:yes!:

Thanks ladies, I had hubby take the pic for me a couple of days ago. I am a little sore this evening but icing helped immensely. Will be going Tuesday to try my hand at Aqua Zumba, can't wait!!

Hey Donna!
Man are you getting back out there or what! Great to hear that you joined your Y and hope the Aqua Zumba class was good!
I'm a member of my local Y also and use their recumbent bikes and do water classes (or did until it got too painful ore-op).
I met with a trainer at the Y after my TKR and she suggested that I not do the Zumba classes because of all the sideways movements but I am thinking from the knee perspective I could handle it now...just not sure how the hip will respond. If you can do it at 8 weeks I think that is terrific!

I too am an insomniac these days. Not napping much during the day either...I'm wondering if the Percocet is causing me to not get to sleep...I will know soon when I stop taking them if they were the culprit.

So good to hear how well you are doing otherwise though!
Pam

Donna...where you be????? Are you Ok???? I have been looking for you....I hope you are busy and well ???? Please let me know how you are doing??? Your my touch stone girl.....xoxox

@mystikfairy61, I have been thinking about you myself and hoping you are out there having a great spring! Let us know how you're doing!

Hi all, I am still here just lurking in the shadows and only check in every once in a while. I am almost 11 weeks out and all is well. I still get stiff if I sit too long and muscle soreness when I do too much. I am really enjoying going to the Y and the classes are enjoyable!! I do aqua classes as well as the Zumba Gold which is a little slower pace than normal zumba. I have been able to do an aqua class at 10am followed by the zumba gold at noon. The Y I go to has a jacuzzi but I haven't checked it out yet, but may when I go back. Got out and did some yard work this weekend and have really had quite a bit of soreness but not in my hip, LOL other muscles that are complaining from non-use during the pre-op time when I couldn't get out and do it. The energy drain is gone and most days I feel really good. Still have the left knee issue that keeps on bothering me and doc changed me to Mobic for it. If it keeps bothering me like it is, I may be looking at trying to do something about it maybe this fall. Will just have to wait and see. Hope everyone is doing great and enjoying the beautiful spring weather!! Joanne, call me when you can, love ya and miss talking to you. Take care all!!

@mystikfairy61 Donna!
I am so glad you are doing so well now. Can it be eleven weeks .... Wow....
The Zumba gold and aqua aerobics sound really nice. I still can't dance to music ....haha!
I am now at three and a half weeks out.
I feel generally good; a bit of energy drain each day.
My biggest issue is Horrible stiffness every morning from when I wake up like 4am on.. til I get up.
It seems I am fine all day/night til I go to bed and put the pillows to each side and one in between legs and
go to sleep. Because I don't move I guess I get stiff.
It is awful!!!!!
And, it doesn't go away if I get up and go to the bathroom and go back to bed.
So at some point i just give up and get up earlier than I want to, and then the stiffness goes away.

Did you have that??????

Let me know... and keep in touch! xo

@mystikfairy61 so good to hear how well you're doing! I'm headed to my Y for aqua classes starting this week myself. I cant wait to get in the water..my OS thinks it will be good for strengthening without any trauma to the new joint. I have 2 more weeks before airport marathons start again so I've gotta get my strength back.

@MajorHeidi I have that stiffness too when I first get up. Totally empathize on the stiffness when you try to get up for a quick restroom trip in the middle of the nite, sometimes I can barely get there and have to hold onto furniture, walls, etc. , but after I'm up for the day and loosen up I'm good!

I had some stiffness in the beginning, but it gradually decreased over time and now is gone. I think it just takes time for the muscles and soft tissues to all heal up and quit complaining. The hip itself can't really hurt, 'cause it's titanium.

I still have stiffness, too. I leave my cane by the bed and use it in the middle of the night...it just makes moving so much easier!
