Happy Birthday @Great Aunt Janet. I am sending balloons all the way to Longreach.

I now know where Longreach is. Yesterday when trying to plan our major trip, I saw it on the rail map to my surprise!

Thanks, you sweeties - did have fun, Florence made me a cake full of cream and strawberries, and we went out for dinner where I put away a most delicious - and unexpected - steak and kidney pie. We are only a little town, but sometimes we do stuff better than the biggest smoke.

9q/aoSj/9k= - and enjoyed those out-of-season strawberries :heehee: We had the twins again for the weekend (from 4pm Friday until 11 am today) and I suffered much less this time than last... of course we had fun, I mean my hip was less of an issue :snork: Beautiful weather at the mo too, lucky we didn't have them last weekend... we had over 80mm rain!! Still managed quite a bit of blue sky though, so at least it wasn't miserable

We're only having the kids so much because our son and DIL have had to move out of their home as the plaster on ALL the inside walls has failed necessitating it's removal/replacement culminating (after two years of fighting with the builder, for whom my DIL used to work!) with them having to move out into short stay accommodation for nine weeks while the house is stripped out and re-plastered... but the builder wasn't terribly well organized so they were only able to stay in the first place for four weeks, meaning another move this weekend, hence the "Hip Test" :heehee: It all goes off again in five weeks when they move home - if all that work can be completed by then!

It's funny how you "feel" recovered, as you said, then you get a gentle (or NOT so gentle!) poke reminding you - it's a work in progress! Like I said though, even after seven months there is improvement-over-time; I've had improvement (not a lot, but definitely improvement) over the last month. I still have to get to that Chiro... I was going on Friday but took FOREVER in the optometrist (long story about my long standing glaucoma issues and the need for not one but two pairs of glasses - and the choosing of frames for said!) Oh, and I managed to pick myself up from the floor when he gave me the price... couldn't have done THAT pre THR :loll:

Don't work too hard

Reporting in after my weekend of full days work, including half an hour either end of the day up and down stairs, round our 2 hectare site unlocking doors and securing again. AND I walked to work. AND I walked the dogs. I was tired at the end of it, but the sorest bit of me was my lower back from trying to use one of those kneel up on seats at the PC. Obviously not very fit in my core (all round!), so am actually thinking about doing some proper gym work. Me!
:dancy:
Anyway, all went well, no problems and am back to my half days for the rest of the week. I managed to do side leg raises at last, just five of them and about 2 feet off the bed - but I couldn't do any a couple of weeks ago, so I think it is just the walking that has helped to strengthen the muscles. That's what we were advised here - just walk - and it is working for me anyway. I feel very lucky - and just wanted to share that with any pre-op hippies heretoreading. Don't do too much!

Now, just have to ask: @Legin - what is that thing hanging down in your new (isn't it?) Avatar?

Its my old pooch she covered herself with blankie

I am basking in the compliments @Granny Di and @wcgirl - but I know I am mainly just really lucky that everything has gone so well. Part of that luck was finding this forum so I knew not to push hard at all - so although it sounds like I am doing a lot, I am really being very kind to myself all the time.

Still haven't tried the gym.

My recovery update is that I used my bike for the first time today - rode to work, then rode to down the main street to pick up pre-ordered morning tea (gotta support those fundraisers) and back and then home again, via the supermarket, small basket of shopping. Oh the bliss! It did mean I didn't walk as far today, but it was lovely whizzing round town. I didn't get a chance to use a stationery bike first, so it was just on and away. It all came back to me - like riding a bike!
:biking:

Your biking report inspired me so I just got back from a short ride. Thanks Janet!
I had planned to ride sooner but rain, pollen, black flies and other excuses delayed my venturing out. My bike shoes attach to the pedals and if I met a bear would I be able to get off the bike quickly and get the bear spray out? What scared me was not knowing if I had to stand up would my leg work? We are at the cottage now with sand roads and sometimes one has to stand to power through the soft sand. I did it but I did have loose leggy sort of wonky around the knee feeling. It should strengthen with more biking...I hope. Well I am not scared anymore!
I may copy this in my own thread. But you were the inspiration Janet!

You are amazing!! here I am thinking I walked around the neighborhood using my cane was a huge accomplishment! :yahoo:

Oh my, I must check in-in more often....enjoyed getting back in the pulse of things reading how you all are doing....

Well ta very much @Granny Di, Di - not often I am an inspiration, so I will take it and frame it! Your biking sounds much more dangerous than mine, what with the soft sand, locked in feet and bears! And they say Australia is a dangerous place! Canada seems to be much more wild, and we definitely don't need spray for the critters when we are biking. Maybe a facemask for the unfortunate roadkill...

Dear Kathy, @webbie73 - you have accomplished hugely - don't forget you are 3 weeks after me, so it is all downhill from there. And I better qualify the 'whizzing round town' because I am finding I am quite slow and have to use an easier gear than before, if the wind is in my face.

Most excellent to hear from you Janice @Joydancer - hope you are fighting fit too now - I must go and check your thread and see what you have been up to - thanks for all the good wishes - cake was orange, with fresh cream and strawberries NO CANDLES! :scare: - Just checked your thread... come on you orange-eater, shiny hip gal - let it all hang! :ok: hoping all is going better for you - especially as June has busted out all over.

Did you get out for a walk around the town bringing laughter to everyone you meet? I've been taking it easy the last two days after re-reading Beachgal's advice about taking it slow and easy for the first 3 months. The body is so weird! I had a great sleep the other night and hurt all over the whole next day like I had been in a fight. Not that I have ever been in a physical fight. :dubious: I think it was talking to me - yelling maybe?

Yes @Granny Di, Di, I did an hour's walk - longest yet - nice and brisk and got a blister from my new trainers so did limp towards the end. Spoilt the desired effect when I met a pal who ALSO needs a THR (but not ready to surrender yet), as I wanted to look all warrior etc. Ah well. Had no problems otherwise though, and I've already walked over an hour today in two parts, and no ill effects. So your comments about your 4k walk really inspired me to get out and do that - me and my dog thank you!
:dogwalk:

People don't usually laugh when they see me out and about, at least not to my face. :eyebrows: Actually, the most of anything I saw was roos, galahs and flies, as I opted for the scenic route down to the lagoon and out to the rural properties and back in, instead of town this time, as I do quite a bit of that with the dog walking every morning. Made me think about going camping again soon one day...

I've done the same as you with the sleeping so well and then waking up sore - I think it might be that we do a bit of flailing about in the middle of the night because, well, now we can!! Isn't it great? And I do agree about the taking it slow being the best thing - it has definitely worked for me, I am amazed and delighted that lazy = payoff!
