Revision TKR possibly allergic reaction to knee replacement

So I got a call this morning saying I need clearance from my pcp cause my EKG came back abnormal. I don't have any heart problems and was told if my pcp doesn't give me clearances I will have to reschedule my surgery. I m an emotional wreck rite now. All I seem to do is cry and worry. I finally find a surgeon who can fix my knee and now there is a chance it could alll b cancelled. How often do EKG'S show abnormal. Thanks for letting me vent

I'm sorry to hear about your ECG. I understand how upsetting that is at this stage. :console2:
However, it might be only a minor setback. So, see your PCP and ask if there is really a problem. If not, he/she will give you the clearance you need.

If there is something that needs investigating further, go ahead with that. It's much better to find out now, rather than have a sudden, unexpected problem during your surgery.

So I did see my pcp today and he was extremely rude to me,upset about the fact that I went out of the area for a surgeon. But he said that I do need to go see a cardiologist cause my EKG was abnormal. So they have officially cancelled my surgery for Monday and waiting for a call for the cardiologist. I don't mind the set back as I mind my pcp's attitude and the crude, mean way,he kept saying that I picked that hospital so that is y he is sending me. He has been lying to my new os and that I don't appreciate, sorry to vent but thanks for listening

Sorry your PCP was such a meanie! You deserve better.
However, you do have the right to choose your specialist - and your PCP, for that matter.

I m planning on leaving this pcp once this is all done and I know I can pick my own specialist I just don't get y it makes them so upset ,u would think they would b happy I found some help, but they don't seem to care

I think you have to accept that some people have an ego problem and can't handle having their advice rejected.
Yes, change your PCP as soon as you're through all this. You've obviously lost any trust you had in the present one.

Thank u so much for always being there. One question if anyone would know,so when I go to the cardiologist and let's just say he says there is something wrong with my heart, hopefully not but I never have good luck on anything, would that mean that I would not b allowed to have surgery if I have something wrong with my heart?

I think it would all depend on what is wrong with your heart. It might be just a very simple thing, and the cardiologist might even say that it's not going to be a problem.

Or, it might take a bit more investigation to find the cause, and then treatment to correct the problem. It might delay your surgery, but I don't think there are many problems that would completely prevent you from having the surgery.
I have heard of people having surgery, with the cardiologist advising about treatment during the surgery and recovery.

My mother had a knee replacement when she was 84 and had heart failure. She did have to spend the first 36 hours after surgery in Intensive Care, but she sailed through the whole process and made an excellent recovery.

Ok thanks. I have never had heart problems ever and don't have any symptoms of any heart problems, health wise I m good. But I still tend to expect the worst. I know the os told me that if by 60 or 90 days i don't get clearance then I would have to redo all of my testing again for surgery so hopefully it won't get to that

I'm glad you have a date. Let us know how you get on and what the cardiologist says, won't you?

Yes most definitely

I hope all goes well with the cardiologist. I know it's a few weeks until your appointment but try not to worry. EKGs can show problems at times but it is the machine itself or even placement of the leads. Since your PCP seems to be so offended he might have just wanted to have you see a cardiologist rather than just rerunning the EKG. If you do have a problem the cardiologist usually will prescribe any meds to get you through your surgery. I had an EKG show a problem but I just had it redone and my revision was done. I had a spinal, femoral block and sedation for the surgery without any difficulty and my surgery didn't take much longer than the original TKR.

Oh awesome, thank u so much for that encouragement. It is good to hear that there still mite b lite at the end of all this crazyiness

Hi everyone. I had my cardiologist appt today and he did another EKG and compared it to the one I brought with me from my 2009 TKR.(My pcp claimed he didn't have the EKG and neither did my previous surgeon but I had a copy of it),anyway,he said that they were both the exact same and then did an echogram, I think that is what it is called, and all is good. I m cleared for surgery so hopefully I will hear tomorrow on the date
