Well... just got a phone call from theater bookings - apparently my OS has been overseas on holiday and is caught over there...... surgery is postponed till another date. If I don't hear from them I am to ring next Wednesday.. feel rather flat now but as my eldest daughter said - these things happen for a reason........ :umm:
 
Oh Bill @fulafoto, I am so sorry.

I had that happen in 2010 when I was scheduled for my LTKR. My OS went to Haiti with a relief team after the earthquake and postponed my surgery for 2 weeks. Then he got stuck there and I was postponed for another week. In my heart I knew the people there needed him more than I did but UGH:(

Hopefully you won't have to wait too long. I must admit though that I do agree with your daughter, everything happens for reason. Hang in there:)

Aw, gee... What a bummer after waiting so long. So sorry -- I know how it feels to be so close & yet so far. My own THR was postponed about 2 weeks because they found a UTI which I had to get rid of first. But anyway, you've hung in for so long... you'll get there & you'll be so happy. This is but a bump in the road, a blip on the radar. And your daughter is probably right!
 
Here's hoping your delay will not be for very long. We all know these things happen, but....dang!.....it's supposed to be other people and not US!!! Sending ((((HUGS))))......hang in there!

I know you were so amped for this surgery date.
As you say, it must be for the best for a reason.

And that is definitely the right way to think of it. Things happen for a reason. Sorry I know this has got to play with your emotions a bit. Boy if this happened to me here would be a lot of stuff going down.... I already have a long term substitute hired and all lessons plans written. Yikes kinda scary. Your work able to handle the change of schedule better than mine would?

I really just can't believe it....I know it must seem unbelievable to you too.

You have a fantastic attitude about it though. Any idea when they might be able to reschedule? And will you have to go through all the tests again?

I tell you what, if I find out he extended his holiday, I'll come up and thump him for you

Thanks everyone for you supportive and kind words - you're all so great!! I went out and took some landscape photos (none of which were any good really but that was not the point of the exercise) It has finally hit home and I have finally hit rock bottom - nothing serious just feel a major let down is all.
I have done the 'necessary' things like ringing my employer and superannuation company who are paying my income at the moment and they are all supportive and disappointed as well.
Now to wait for the next date.. and @Vetgirl Sally - not sure about all the pre-op testing but my wife and I talked about it and will find out when they schedule me I expect.
Thinking a sunrise by the seaside is the order of the day tomorrow morning... that always makes me feel better.

Hi Bill @fulafoto I think it is so very normal to feel you have hit rock bottom....I was feeling so bad for you and knew how devastated you would feel. And unfortunately there is nothing you can do about it which makes it frustrating even more.

Think of other people you know who may have had delays like this and years later are saying how lucky they were to have dodged this bullet. Rationally you know this but it doesn't make it better today.

But for now.....feel sorry for yourself and treat yourself to the sea and maybe a beer!!!!

Super duper hugs today for you and your wife and family xxxx
 
Oh Bill, @fulafoto - I am so, so sorry my good friend. I understand the terrible sense of frustration with cancellations having experienced it three times.

It is so tough to prepare ourselves emotionally and then have this happen and worse still because you can't do anything about it right now. I am sure they will reschedule you as soon as they can, they will be madly rearranging his surgery list. Hang in there buddy, it will happen xxx
