clifford149 I just googled 'canned plums' and sure enough, there's some from Oregon, like zauberflöte 's picture, and another US company, so they must be here. I also found a recipe for Tom Thumb Cake with canned plums. You surely know that nursery rhyme "stuck in his thumb, pulled out a plum". Good ole Tom Thumb. Ok, now I'm on a quest for them!

ByGosh Oh my dear you are to funny. I am sure in places like Walmart we can find canned plums and the next time I go I'll check. But I used prune juice as suggested by many which I DO NOT like but......it definately worked. Clifford149 surely has everyone going doesn't he?

No, I haven't ever seen or noticed canned plums. I have seen dried prunes at the store with the raisins but now I will be on the lookout for canned plums. I think we should all go out and buy them in honor of clifford149 and have a canned eating plum party!

Hi...wow...all I wanted was some plums....they are best eaten fresh....the Victoria variety is best.....can I also suggest that you visit a garden centre and rather than buy a tin of plums....buy and plant a tree in my memory.....ahh you can tell ....all this attention is swelling my head !

PS...I used to live in a UK city called southampton...

Akshully, mine is in the southern part of the "greater metropolitan area" known as Hampton Roads, and in "South Hampton Roads" are 3 cities. The area is also generally referred to as "Tidewater Virginia". Are you confused yet? But.... I did used to belong to a swim club called Southampton! That was in a Virginia city called Richmond (on the James, no kidding, River) which is sister cities with, you guessed it, Richmond-Upon-Thames, UK! (In London I think?)

I'm afraid planting a plum tree in your honor will not be the way to memorialize this thread. Far too tame. Nope, we do avhe to have a Tom Thumb Cake party. But, remember, I myself have to wait till 6 weeks post-op, so I can bring up the whole thing all over again. All of you will ahve moved on, so I will avhe to explain just what this tinned plum thing is all about LOL. Look at all my different typos for "h a v e"

All this talk of plums! I remember my mother bottling plums in syrup in the summer/autumn gluts of 1950's (and apples, rhubarb, blackberries, blackcurrants, any other fruit that she could get off us kids before we ate it) so we had stuff for pies in the winter! Of course, this was before home freezers were common and out-of-season fruit wasn't flown in from all over the world - strawberries at Christmas, anyone?
I did make myself quite ill once by eating 46 mirabelles (a little yellow plum) in one go - best gloss over that, I was only 13! My horrible uncle counted the stones afterwards, nothing like family to support you.
Come on zauberflöte - do you really think we won't want to find out how you are doing? We're nosy and won't want to miss out! At least you know what to expect unlike those of us who found the site after the event and realise that yes, we are normal - well mostly!
And on that note I am leaving you to get to the bank before they close - village sub-branch only open to 2pm!

Well I had an unexpected bonus today. Called my OS to speak to the practice manager about a deep tissue massage I have booked and she said I could ditch the stockings!Brilliant! A reprieve after 3 weeks not 6. Much more comfortable now!

Firebrand I bet you can google a corn syrup substitute. I wouldn't want to use it either, if I don't have to.

Poppet Everyone seemed to be going back and forth about prunes and plums and plums in a tin.....I'll have to re-read it all to refresh my memory!

Nannyannie Yes, grandma's cellar used to be full of colorful fruit in their jars, all "canned" and waiting to be eaten. Not much of that happening now a days.

I love any kind of fruit, so this conversation spiked my interest... When I was a little girl we lived opposite a home apple orchard and the family brewed their own apple cider (in Somerset, UK of course).. My brother and his friend got me to lay under the barrel of brewing apple juice, close my eyes and open my mouth while they turned on the tap.. We all took turns, and all went home rather intoxicated!

Agree firebrand, just last night whilst walking around Asda, they had a seperate stand of tinned fruit and I immediately thought of our clifford and just had to look for plums....none there of course but I had to look
