Patricia, I have to chime in, what beautiful young ladies you have! They must put a smile on your face every day!:)

Patricia, does it make your nervous that your therapist signed off on you? I was about at that range when my first therapist said he couldn't do any more for me. I was right around 100, or less. He told me I wouldn't be happy there in his opinion. So I thanked him (for what, I don't know) and I called up Chantel and told her how the guy did not touch me and only did reps on some machines. Chantel told me to give her a month to try deep tissue massage and it worked. Been going for almost two months and am just about at 120 now. So, would I have gotten better on my own, I don't know. But talking to some other ladies that had knee replacements, they didn't have the therapy very long and they don't have the bend. I suppose everyone is different. I am glad I continued with someone else.

I have to admit Debbie It does make me nervous a little bit. I assumed they would like a ROM of 120 at least before signing me off She stressed that 90/95 was perfectly acceptable after a TKR. I was in the gym for five mnutes and thats the only time Ive ever been in there. I walked in without a cane and can do my leg lifts ok and my extension is 0 so its the bend that I was worrying about. My middle son has just passed an exam as a personal trainer and part of it was recovery from knee ops so he is going to give me some exercises in the new year to do and supervise me on the upright bike I have got. Ive spoken to other people in my area and they have said the same thing. Physio was not a big part of their recovery. Time will tell in the new year but i defnitley want to improve the bend if i can.

I agree with Debbie that someone who knows how to do the deep tissue massage can really make a difference. The tissue really gets tight. My PT is good at it and she worked on the back of my leg behind the knee and down and then up and it really helped a lot. Also she said just using the knee normally, not favoring it and strengthening the quad should give you more ROM. Most of the physio we do I could do at home so probably your son can help you quite a bit. For me the goal is to keep working on it and not to be such a wuss when it comes to pushing myself a little. :spin:

I was kicked from physio @ 5 weeks.... I had 0 and 123... :ok:my regular pt was sick that day but we had discussed it and I asked about exercises that would build strength and balance.... I am carrying on my self. I do some stairs, walk, wall slides, and balance exercises. :dancy: Just a few a day.... plus any chores I can manage between icings, etc. I take a day off if I overdo. It is working for me.:ok:
You are lucky to have a son as a trainer..... he can really make you a bionic woman.....:heehee: He will be able to make suggestions and check your execution for correctness. You can advise him when he has it wrong!... best of both worlds!:thumb:

Hi Patricia,

I know it's a little scary to be released from pt but don't let it worry you too much. Because you have extension at zero, it will make it easier to get the flexion as time goes by. My OS and I agreed that the flexion is something hat will continue to get better simply by living. If you can work with your son to develop specific exercises to keep working on it, it will help even more.

I am confident that you will see improvement over time. Also remember its still early days for you. You are barely 3 months post op and you know from your reading that rom can keep improving for well over a year or more. Keep the faith and stay positive. You are doing really well and you have no where to go but up!!

Wishing you all the best,

Dawn

Thank you Dawn. I dont feel completely on my own with Mark helping me too. Im sure there is more bend in there for me yet.:dancy:

There is nothing better than grand kids and yours looks absolutely joyous. I bet she is a quivering bundle of fun...her smile is infectious! Enjoy the holidays with your family.

Thank you all ladies. Robyn has cheered me up no end whilst ive been recovering. She has such a wide range of speech and astounds us what she comes out with. She was asking where my crutches were today and I told her I dont need them any more so she told me to give them to Santa because thats whats shes doing with her dummy. :happydance:

She is so completely adorable! How can you not feel better being loved by such a cherub?

Cheers,

Dawn

Well its been an eventful 12 weeks. I thought when I went in for my op I would be all healed for Christmas. How innocent was I. But Im getting there. And Im going to relax now and enjoy Christmas with my lovely family. In 2013 Im hoping my knee heals properly and I dont have to have my right knee replaced too soon. I would never have come this far without the help and support of everyone on this forum. I feel so lucky to have googled "Knee Replacement" and found this wonderful site. So I am wishing each and everyone :merrychr: an d a lots of Health, Love and Laughter in 2013. :martini:
