How's the healing going? .And another Question for my Young friend how much walking are you doing a day and are you off 2 cruches yet??..:what:..I so wish I could drive...:rolleyespink:

Happy Healing,

donnie

Hey Donnie, around the house I'm walking well with no aides and when out and about I'm just using 1 cane.
I'm walking for about 20 minutes twice a day and find that by the evening I have a bit of a limp but all in all I think I'm doing really well.
I have next to no pain now, I'm not using any painkillers through the day just a couple at night.
I still haven't attempted driving either and it's starting to do my head in, my 17yo daughter is driving my new car everywhere (I've had it for 4 months) as she is my designated driver but when she is at work I'm stuck!!!

Anyway we are 4 weeks post op and woooohooooo I'm loving it :)
I hope you are well my friend.
Take care xx

Wow, sounds like you are doing great. You are a wk ahead of me as I had my surgery on the 7th. I am using the walker outside and in the house the cane but since I moved to the cane on Monday I have been quite sore. Guess that means things are coming alive and muscles are being engaged so I look at it as a good thing, though it does not feel so good sometimes.

Sleeping has been tough but I find if I can lay on my side, even if for a brief time, it helps. Just to change positions feels good even if temporarily.

I'll be keeping an eye on you and will use you for inspiration since you are ahead of me. Good luck, and my favorite saying these days is "this too shall pass" -- Cathy

Hi Tanya, I get a little mixed up on this site and see I've responded to you before. Sorry for acting like you were new. . Sometimes I think posts are new and then realize they are not. Anyway good day and I hope it's a good one.

Hey Cathy, just remember we all heal at different rates.
It's only just been the last couple of days that I could happily say ive been pain free. I still find sleeping as issue as well, I sleep on my non operated side with a pillow between my knees for support but within an hour or so my side gets sore....I actually woke up on my tummy the other night, gave myself quite a fright but obviously it didn't hurt because I slept through the movement.
Happy healing Cathy,
Take care xxx

I understand completely :thumb:

Hi Tanya

Just stopped by to catch up on your progress... Seems as though all is going to plan except for the sleeping.. Interesting that you rolled onto your tummy, are you normally a tummy sleeper?

Lots of love xoxoxox

Hey Sandy, yes I am normally a tummy sleeper so I think it's just natural for my body to want that. Hopefully soon sleeping will get back to normal, fingers crossed.
I had a big day today....the dog groomer came to bath my babies and clip my little girl so stood for about an hour and a half chatting to the groomer.....by the end my legs felt like jelly, probably not a smart move!!!
Then tonight my family and I decided we would do the grocery shopping....my first time grocery shopping in about 3 months. Im feeling a little sore tonight and have great plans for a big day of rest tomorrow.
Happy healing everyone :)

Hi Tanya

Have been snuggled down for the past couple of hours since 7 am listening to hubby snoring away. I have been catching up with everyone this Saturday morning :)

You had a big day yesterday, yes, the jelly legs gets one all the time... Rest day today :)

When do you return to work?

Lots of love and hugs xoxoxoxox

DONNIE

Hey Donnie,

I go back to work on the 23rd of April so not quite as many days left of full-time healing for me. I haven't done any PT aside from what the hospital phisyo gave me when left the hospital but I do those 2 or 3 times a day.

I must say I'm not having a good one today. I had a big day yesterday so decided today would be a rest day and I think I feel worse then ever....I'm aching all over, just getting up to the bathroom is an issue.
Oh well tomorrow is another day, I'm sure it will be better! :thumb:
Sounds like you are coming along nicely....excellent on the sleeping, mine is improving slowly :)
I'm off to bed now
Take care xx

Good morning Tanya

Sorry you had a mediocre day, it seems to me that I have found that early in the recovery phase there are brilliant days and then whamoo! A bad day seems to hit. All part of the massive amount of healing processes.

I do hope you feel better today (Sunday) and take good care of yourself :)

Lots of love and big big hugs 

I've had plenty of those days when I would be so stiff and ache all over and not understand why because I didn't think I had done THAT much previously. But, this surgery and recovery takes a LOT of energy and that's our way of telling our bodies to slow down and rest.

I just went through a bad time. It does pass. Just keep doing the right things and things will get better. And, I've found that talking to others and especially posting here about it helps a lot.

I hope tomorrow is a better day.

Dorothy

Oh Dorothy, you are such a sweet heart 

This surgery is tough! It is an assault on our body, it is an assault on our emotions, and very much an assault on our energy levels...

Going back to work is the biggie..and weekends must be used to rest and recover... Be kind to yourself, both you and Tanya xoxoxoxoxox

Thanks Sandy and Dorothy, it's so good to come here and get confirmation that how your feeling is quite normal.
Today (Sunday in Australia) I am feeling much better. My daughter took me to the craft store for more supplies. I've managed to do some washing and the dishes today and still not feeling nearly as sore as yesterday....definitely lots of ups and downs.
Happy healing ladies xx

Late Sunday afternoon - so pleased you had a better day Tanya... Yes, there are and will be up and down days, but....

They too will pass :)

At the moment, you are in recovery mode at home, although there are huge energy drains when you go back to work ( and we will chat more about the when the time comes), you will actually find that returning to work, the emotions etc level out and your real life begins again, albeit with no pain :)

Hi Sandy, thank you for your words of wisdom....I would be lost without this site sometimes.

I popped into work yesterday to sort some leave issues out and my bosses couldn't believe how well I'm walking. My direct boss said she can see the change in my face, apparently pre surgery I had this constant look of pain and dark circles around my eyes but that's all gone now.
I think having this surgery (as difficult as it is at times) it's the best thing I have ever done. :)

Hi Tanya,

Yes, I totally agree, even with all the ups and downs of recovery, this is so much better than I felt before. Sometimes I forget how bad the pain was (bone on bone) before my new hips. Now any "aches and pains" I may have do not compare to that awful pain from before. We have a lot to be grateful for.
