Hi Tanya,

I used to have a lot of crying jags...funny thing for me, after the crying the next day I always felt a lot better, part of the healing process I guess. You have been through a lot and the emotions just come some days.

There are different approaches used by the surgeons (I had lateral) and you can find out what approach you OS used by asking him, then if you want you can let us know!

Hang in there you are just 3 weeks out and it will get better.

Hi Tanya

Yes, those roller coaster emotions... They seem to go on for ever in the early days/weeks of recovery.

Then the blue rainy days disappear  and life is sunny again 

Hang in there, go with the flow, you are doing fantastically :thumb:

Thanks ladies, Diane I haven't seen my OS since I was released from hospital but I will be sure to ask when I do go back for my check up.
Sandy you are an inspiration <3

You are very welcome Tanya, we can always wipe away the tears and help you smile again

Big hugs from your Aussie friend 

Hey Donnie, I'm doing ok today...I think it's just been a super busy week and it's been getting on top of me but I'm determined to rest up over the weekend.
So you have a posterior which is on the back side....this sounds like mine as well, the incision goes from my butt down my left leg but it's quite large. 14 inches in length.
I don't find I need ice or anything and I'm only taking minimal pain relief....I just need to remember I'm not super mum and can't do it all.
How long are you not able to drive for? Just curious :)
Rest well
Tanya

Hi Tanya

Great to hear you are doing better. The driving restrictions in Australia is for six weeks, this is a legal restriction. Also best to check with your surgeon as to when he allows driving.. I think the driving restrictions are similar in other countries not sure though. 

Hey Sandy, thanks for that info I will check with my surgeon. Nobody has ever actually given me a time frame! I'm back at work 7 weeks post op and it would make life easier if I could drive. :)

Donnie your a champ, your wife must be so happy with you doing all that house work. I am managing a little as well, doing the dishes, a bit of laundry....the only thing I struggle with is sweeping and mopping!

I can't believe im 23 days post op, time sure does fly when you're having fun :)

I see people talking about anterior and posterior approach, what does this mean and how do you know which one you have?
Thanks
Tanya

This article from the BoneSmart Library will give you the information you are looking for about the various approaches:

THR Approaches and Incisions

That's what your description sounded like to me.

Hi Tanya
Sounds like you are recouperating ok.
I was able to drive before not quite four weeks. I was told I had to be off the heavy meds, oxycodon and then hydrocodon. So I waited a couple of days after I got off them.
My PT who came to my home made sure that I got into and out of my car ok. I have a little higher car and it is automatic, so it was ok. It's a Ford Focus wagon. Have not driven my pick-up or my tractor yet because they both have clutches and I had no need to drive them yet. Maybe this week I'll try to drive them. Should be ok.
Take care and have a great rest of the weekend.
Bea

Just wanted to check how you are?

Lots of love xxxxx

Hi Sandy,
I am doing much better thanks. Every day lately I have been out and about for one reason or another. Im actually looking forward to having a full day at home tomorrow :)
Hope you are ok.
Take care

I was an emotional mess for pretty much an entire day several days after my surgery. I cried non-stop. NOTHING made me feel better. I knew I had done the right thing by having the surgery, the surgery had gone well, but I just hated having to rely on the walker, other people, etc. I tend to be pretty stubborn and independent. It passed. Your's will too.

Driving usually depends on a various things--leg involved: I had the posterior approach, so hip precautions had to be maintained. Left leg, automatic car=much quicker to be able to drive. I was driving at 2 1/2 weeks with my automatic SUV. I didn't feel like I felt comfortable to drive very far, but it was good to be able to drive to the store down the road or to a nearby church with a gym so I could walk when the weather was too bad to walk outside my house. I think my surgeon says 4-5 weeks if it's the right hip (I'll find out in June). And, he doesn't want you taking narcotic pain medication when you are driving.

Things will only keep getting better and better!

Dorothy

Thanks Dorothy, I don't go back to work for another 4 weeks and by then I will be 7 weeks post op so I'm hoping I'll be right by then :)

Lol Donnie great minds huh....I think I've been over doing it lately but tomorrow everyone will be at work or school soi have no choice but to stay home, this is a good thing.
Have a great rest day
Tanya xx
