Good luck with the checkup, Tanya.

Hope it's a clean bill of health and instructions to continue treating yourself like a queen for a while longer... :thumb:

Hope all went well at the doctors....I went yesterday for blood work.the right back to my cave..for some icing on my thight muscles ...How are you doing with that mine are very sore...Donnie

Well I spent 3 hours at the doctors, it appears that I have an infection in my wound. He has taken swabs and sent them to see what the bacteria is and I have to go back Sunday!!!

He also argued with me over pain killers and was very reluctant to give me another script for oxycontin, I don't abuse them, I only take them when necessary and he is the only doctor I see so it's not like I'm getting them anywhere else.....talk about frustrating!

Anyway I'm back home and resting now pain killers and ice etc.

Donnie I'm still very uncomfortable and also experiencing a bit of groin pain as well but each day does appear to be a little better.

Take care
Tanya

Tanya, if he is reluctant to continue with oxycontin, you might see if he would agree to another "step-down" pain medication. As you progress in recovery sometimes they can work just as well.

Hi Tanya

I am so sorry to hear you may possibly have an infection in the wound... Just not fair :(

I can imagine you are rather worried.

Also, shocked that he would argue over a further prescription for your Oxycontin...

Hang in there honey :)

Hi Tanya,

Sorry to hear about your plight...the good news is you have been to the dr. and hopefully they will get you just the right meds. and it will go away quickly.

Sorry about the pain meds. that is the last thing you need right now. I'm not sure why some dr. don't get it...guess they have never gone through this recovery but glad you got the rx in the end.

Sending healing thoughts your way, please keep us updated.

Thanks for the responses, I am a little concerned and at this stage I hope it's just a minor infection that will heal quickly without much fuss.

My dr is quite a bit older then most and I think rather set in his ways, he did end up giving me the script for a months supply but told me that will be the last of the narcotics.....that will take me to 6 weeks post op so I'm hoping things will be great by then and I won't need them anyway :).

I just want to say again I'm so glad I found this forum, it's wonderful to be able to vent and have people understand where you're coming from.

Have a great day/evening everyone
Tanya xx:biggrin:

Hi Tanya,

Rotten luck re infection but I'm sure you'll get it sorted quickly. I've changed pain meds a few times mostly by substituting a smaller dosage or switching to a less "addictive" one whilst the pain's under control.
There is a very good section in the Library about pain meds by Jo it's well worth having a look.
Hope all goes well, it is very early days take it easy and treat yourself well.

Charlie

Thanks Charlie, I have read that info about the pain meds and found it very interesting.
I'm sure things will get sorted, power of positive thinking

Welcome! I am quite new to the forum myself, although not new to hip replacement. This forum has helped me a great deal. It is rare in my everyday life to find others my age with hip replacements. I also have 3 kids, but not even close to full grown :).

Hi Tanya

Welcome to BS

Sorry to hear about the meds. I know my OS was like your doctor but my GP was very supportive in my plan for pain management. I cannot take tylenol (liver issues from taking the max dosage for 5 years) and ibuprofen is too hard on my stomach so alot of NSAIDS are off limits for me so my options are less than usual.

My GP told me I am entering the most important phase of my recovery (I am 22 days POP) and that is the PT side of things and he said pain mgt will help me to take advantage of PT in the best way possible and that is pain free. He also indicated that at the 3 month mark we would work on getting me off the drugs PERIOD...no questions asked. Perhaps a negotiation between your PT and your doctor would help to gain his help in your recovery. I know my PT people have talked to my doctors on my behalf before.

Regardless take care and remember the four most important things ---Ice, elevation, naps, and more ICE. Trust me the ice works wonders. I am still using it many times a day. If I am uncomfortable and it is not med time I use ice and elevation. It helps and gets you over the rough times.

Tanya---We are here for you---any time of the day. You can rant, you can cry, you can ramble. We have all been where you are going and we are here for you. :friends:

Take care

Thanks mrsdouce, my children are 21, 18 and my baby is 16 so not quite full grown but close enough that they can help me quite a bit.
I have also found it rare for people my age to have had this surgery but since coming to this fantastic forum there seem to be a few, even really young ones.
My dr said I needed this surgery back when I was about 31 but we hung off as long as possible!
I look forward to carting with you some more.
Take care
Tanya

Hi Tanya

Sounds like the Infection is not that bad??? and your getting more meds to help with pain...Im think I could use somthing alittle stronger just so I can sleep...Well maybe if I get exhausted enough I will pass out.!!!

Have a good evening and talk at ya tomarrow!!!...Donnie

I'm not having a good day, feeling very down, lots of pain and just don't want to play anymore :(.
I know it's normal to get the post op blues but I really hate feeling like this!!

Hi Tanya

I so remember those words... I just don't want to play anymore... still say them some days.. Hang in there :)

Those post op blues are miserable days, but you do come through them, promise :)

You mentioned you are in list of pain, do you still have some pain Meds? I would be taking them to help you through this period.

Sending :friends: :console: :wubroses: :ok:

And lots of love and big hugs xxxxx

Thanks Sandy, this is why I know I can come here and vent without judgement because you all understand.

Hang in there Donnie I'm with you all the way....it's frustrating because the old pain is gone and I know in my head this new pain is temporary but it sure doesn't feel it at the moment.
I hope you manage to get dome rest Donnie.

I went for a walk today with my dog Jasper, yesterday I also went walkies with him same route etc..
Today I thought my leg was about to drop off and there was some broken glass in my glutes, whereas yesterday it was all peace and love.
Thing is it does vary day to day and almost hour to hour, I can only really see what's going on by taking the long term view.... I know it's bloody difficult when it hurts to have any sort of philosophical perspective BUT it does and will get better.

Hang on in there babe!

Love
Charlie
