THR New left hip 20 October<

I did far too much walking without aids on Monday and Tuesday and am guessing its the reaction from that.
I think this is likely. You are less than 2 months from having new ball joint and tie rod inserted through all those muscles in your leg! Wonder why it doth complain?
Are you still icing plenty?
When mobility in the hip is limited because it’s stiff and it causes you to limp, then this in turn causes you to strain your calf muscles. Also there can be referred pain from hip to knee and so forth.
You know - the hip bone is connected to the leg bone...the leg bone is connected to the knee bone...:) :-) (:
It can take weeks (sometimes months) to recover from overstraining muscles/tendons that are injured so please try to practice that weak patience muscle.
I didn't want to take NSAIDS due to some studies regarding inhibiting bone growth..but many here have with no ill effects. Icing also requires you to stay put mostly.:thumb:
I think if you make a concerted effort to take extra rest/ice time, you will find you will be getting back on track.
Hope today is an Easy Day:ice:

I've always been very adaptable...had to be.. to soldier through work and life in general prior to op. I feel like you were the same!?
Recovery can be ultra-frustrating as it IS what it IS and it takes the time it takes.

Sometimes... you just have to go through it, not around it.

Wasn't easy for me to just idle either...when I was raring to go!

Might try icing behind knee also...or possibly try a heating pad.:heehee:Ice on thigh...heat behind knee.
What a mess!
Been there, done that.

Thanks again @Mojo333 Yes, pretty much adaptable I think. Lived in England, USA, England, Ireland and England again before I got to 10 years old, 14 different schools, so always had to adapt and in adult life 3 different countries and lots of different work [FBI and MI5 keep chasing but always one step ahead, joking]. Not keen on the patience thing. However this thing in my thigh is annoying and not sure why its hurting on non operated side although my idea would be my body getting used to my new gait, upright and not tilted pelvis and using new and different muscles. As with you, just want to push on and get going again, although will need other hip done. Spent a long time in pain before op and yes I know that it is going to take a lot of time to recuperate especially as my left leg was pretty much useless for the last two years, other than getting to drag it round with me. Also, bit of swelling has returned so yes, rest, elevate, ice.....finally ditched the thigh highs so that feels nice, weird but nice....

I'm an Air Force brat. We did most tours in US but did spend five years in Germany and did some traveling in Europe while overseas.
Would love to see Ireland though.

I forgot you had those horrid stockings! Glad you have finally got to ditch them.
I get that different pain makes one anxious when this is definitely a new one on us!
Soft tissue and muscles? Bone?
My recovery thread is bereft with concerns!
I loved going for OS appointments with reaffirming X-rays.
Good thing they don't have home xray devices...I'd be glowing!

Hope some days of Easy Does It helps.

Morning everyone. GP update. Spoke to one of practice doctors, not my GP and really encouraging conversation. I wanted to know if I could have a slightly more powerful pain killer as experiencing quite a bit of pain in my thigh and was told that I should not be on any medication after 5 weeks anyway and needed to come in to the surgery. I said that still not driving and two mile walk out of the question and was told that it should be easy enough at my stage and he said that obviously I was not making the progress I needed to. Really encouraging. I have to say that this particular doctor we refer to as Dr 50/50. Half of the time he is wrong and the other half he is not right. So he eventually agreed to upping the cocodamol to 30/500 whilst telling me not to take them unless absolutely vital and he would never prescribe tramadol. I did mention that perhaps the new thigh pain was caused by overdoing it but apparently that is impossible and more likely to be a pooling of blood in my thigh and watch out for infection. Anyhoo, seeing district nurse tomorrow, so will have a chat with her if still got a problem with thigh.
All good fun eh or as Dickens said 'What larks Pip'

and he would never prescribe tramadol.
:what: wonder why?

You certainly need to be cautious, but I obviously disagree with his assessment of this being impossible. Happened to me, happens all the time to overzealous hippies.
Maybe those bloody thigh highs he had you wearing also kept those poor quads sore and compressed!
Hopefully all will begin to ease with ice and rest!

:dubious:

I was wrong Once, but it's when I Thought I was wrong...but I was really Right!:heehee:

Oh goodness!

If all of us who had pain that few weeks out thought we had infections we would all be paranoid! He is probably right to be caustious but a worry for you. Let us know how it goes with the cocodamol.

Thank you @SurreyGirl but no worries. Dr 50/50 not my doctor and I avoid him at all costs, had I known he was going to ring would have put it off until tomorrow. District nurse popping in tomorrow to check dressing. They said it was very clean last time so hopefully the same. My Dr Google guess and bonesmart input is overdone it so elevating and icing which is nice, frustrating but nice.

Hopefully co codamol 30/500 will help tho made me sleepy.
Cannot believe the attitude of your GP!
Mine seems complete opposite as have boxes of it, nurse prescribed tramadol pre surgery and 4 bottles of oromorph
Like you think thigh pain likely to be either overdoing it or muscles getting use to new internal arrangement.
Having staples out today ....
Hope you have good day

Thank you @Cathippy Its a practice of 9 GPS but just my luck that he was there today. Normal GP I find excellent. Even had to argue with Dr 50/50 over sick note for work which is waiting at surgery for me...I asked if they could send it to me but no I have to pick it up.....so either driving or walking to surgery next week..probably a good incentive funnily enough. Good luck with staples removing.

My Gp gave me a bottle of morphine and more codeine. Mostly off the meds now but took some stuff for my toothache last night :-(

Hopefully you will get somewhere with the doctor. Rest and ice and see how it feels, I suspect that if it is an infection it wouldn’t feel any better. I over did it thigh pain, was bad, and did take a couple of days to correct itself.
Hope you feel better

hi @Ldm380 and thanks for your message. How did it go with your doctor for the meds?

Not taking much notice of the one I spoke to this morning Doctor 50/50. 3 years ago I went to see him and he told me I had a rash groin area and prescribed me some sort of ointment. The next day I was rushed to hospital with a burst abscess. Saw him three days later at the surgery and told him what happened and he said and I quote 'hope they dug it all out, a lot of the time they leave some in'. 6 years ago I had some blood test results which indicated some sort of hereditary liver problem [easily looked after by statins]. He sent me a note with the results just before Christmas saying, 'it appears you have the liver of a much much older person'. There was nothing else attached to the note, no explanation or any ideas re testing etc Thankfully got to see my own GP who sorted it out but I did file an official complaint against doctor 50/50 over the note he sent me. Its not just a vendetta against me, I know of four other people misdiagnosed. The surgery receptionists refer to him as Marmite, either love or hate him. Since the bleeding bleeding have seen surgeon, twice, houseman once, nurse once, district nurse 3 times and they all say how clean it is.
Overdid it club yes. Rest yes. Keep on running, no. Climb every mountain no. Elevate yes. Leap up and down and wave my knickers in the air, no. Running wild no. Ice ice baby yes.

I can relate. It's maddening when a doctor has such a dismissive and pompous demeanor. Hope you get some relief.

Don't worry, you can scratch the "no's" off the list next week :good-bad:

Ice ice baby
too cold too cold

Gosh, that "GP" has some serious issues. I would not go near him. Hasn't a clue about THR recovery. How sweet of him to encourage you - NOT!

Please don't try a 2 mile walk just yet. Can you get someone at the surgery to post the sick note? Or do you have a neighbour who could drive you there?

thank you @SwampHiker Pomposity does not do this particular doctor justice. Honestly if I had realised he would be the one getting back to me today I would not have bothered. As it was the receptionist told me that the earliest anyone could contact me was Thursday to which I had to say no, not Thursday, today. Apparently there is no overdoing recovery and at 5 weeks I should be jumping and jiving. Maybe a lot can, but I can't. This particular doctor is a 'Quack' and an unpleasant one at that. Come to think of it I have been scratching my nose quite a lot.

Thanks @Jaycey No intention of going near the Quack - he said during the call that he had my notes in front of him but seemed shocked when I told him I had had bleeding issues - thats because he wasn't bleeding well reading the notes. He seemed to have no idea about THR no, and annoying but not surprising for him to say that my recovery is slow blah blah ......No 2 mile walk no, if I am not driving next week will try to get them to send it to me.
