Hi @Mojo333 and thanks as always. Have to say I just feel like a bit of a fraud with so many on here with real and tangible problems. District nurse just left, no more dressings needed no bleeding anymore and no sign of infection. Discussed thigh pain which is outside of thigh of operated leg as well as quads being very stiff just above knee which stopped me doing heel slides. Some twinges back of knee, hamstring and calf....Hurts when sitting down, less when walking apart from some twinges hamstring and groin. There are still indentation marks on my thighs and back of knee from the stockings!!
Opinion is I really overdid it not using crutches and not resting for a couple of days or is it the new parts not working or slipping or something like that? Paranoia? Neurotic? IT band syndrome? Doing too much with non developed and healed muscle?
Will try Ice, rest, elevate but little bit of walking around the flat, with crutch. I guess I am panicking!!!

Too much walking...aches!
Too much sitting...same!:gaah:
Finding the balance and or causes frustrated me also.
Stiffening upon sitting...like the description of the result of a good casserole recipe.
I will say, I was given the advice to ...upon first standing..to do some easy mindful stretching...as I tended to have "stutter steps" for the first bit after sitting.
I know you are tired of hearing it, but these truly are still early days.

It's an ebb and flow journey.
Often figuring out the recipe for minimum discomfort with trial and error.
Ice, rest, elevate but little bit of walking around the flat, with crutch.
I Do think this is a great (albeit boring) plan.

Does it appear your new meds made any difference or have you taken yet?

Maybe you could get someone to take you for a short outing?
Cabin fever got to me in short order!:sigh:
Some distraction might do you some good!

@Mojo333 thanks again. Thanks for advice. Don't know anyone to go on outing but will definitely sort out distraction, learning Spanish, started yesterday. We moved here after 18 years of living in France and difficult to meet new people. Will do stretching a bit more while taking care. Already this morning got up went to kitchen to make tea and toast and realised I had not used crutches whilst in the kitchen and yep it hurt my legs....I believe the term is a 'putz'.

I think those unexpected short no aid walks are expected ...I did the same.
Leave off without it...oops...could hardly get back to chair once I realised. Mental thing.

:heehee:Don't mean to giggle, but Learn Spanish was well beyond my feeble mind so Good On You!
What I did on my recovery vacation...learned Spanish!:loll:

Hang in there friend!

All sounds pretty normal to me James - and yes forgetting the crutch , sitting down and realising you have seized up and having to do shuffle steps to get to the crutch. All sounding rather familiar! Sounds like you are doing well though.

@SwampHiker Thank you for your help much appreciated or as we say in Spanish as of two minutes ago 'Muchas gracias mi amiga' [I am a quick learner].. Merci bien mais c'est seulement mon premier jour d'apprendre espagnol, Demain sera mieux.
A bientot

Dean

Dean,

pas juste de changer de langue sur moi.

Yes, I used google translator as I have not conversed in French since I was a teenager. You are a quick learner though, way to go though!

Patty

@Jamesdean , yes, and you can also write German. Enjoy the Spanish learning. Are you doing an evening class and will you travel to Spain next summer? Languages are fun - and they keep your brain going. Good distraction from too much physical activity. I'm always so suprised how soon you people do everything (household chores, driving, working). I didn't do anything major until six weeks post op. And even after that, I didn't make maximum possible physical efforts. Take care. Hasta luego - Constanze

Hi, I hope you're having a good day and feeling better about all after the visit with the district nurse.
Great news the incision looks good. That's always a relief.
Let's tag @Josephine to comment on some of your concerns in Post 182.
Hoping she can offer you some reassurance. Don't want to see you worrying needlessly.
Wishing you comfort and a peaceful evening.
@Jamesdean

Hi @Constanze tikanis? I am learning on line with duolingo. Ja, ich gehe nach spanien next year, Sant Antoni de Calonge about 1 hour from Gerona. At the moment not a lot of physical activity for me, bit of walking around then resting trying to get rid of muscle pain from perhaps overdoing it last week. German approach seems like French, don't run around too much and longer time being cared for but UK 2/3 nights hospital and toodle-oo. I think I would have preferred a bit longer so you have time to ask more questions. Thank goodness bonesmart exists otherwise I would have been phoning doctors every day .Wie gehts Constanze, sehr gut?

You're welcome!
It's easy to drive yourself crazy when each new pain or sensation has you wondering what's going on.
How are we to know what's normal and what's of concern when this is our first rodeo?
I found most of the things that worried me were soon replaced by another annoying symptom of recovery. I came to feel if something was escalating or unrelenting, I'd worry, the rest I'd try to ignore.
Never hurts to check in with the expert (Jo). That's what she's here. And having peace of mind is very important in my estimation. Helps you rest easy. Worry is the pits.
I want you to be a happy camper
@Jamesdean

I hope I don't drive Josephine crazy.
Takes a lot to drive me crazy, James!

Did you forget the BIG TIP you were told about earlier? It was this
BIG TIP: Hips actually don't need any exercise to get better. They do a pretty good job of it all on their own if given half a chance. Trouble is, people don't give them a chance and end up with all sorts of aches and pains and sore spots. All they need is the best therapy which is walking and even then not to excess.
There are still indentation marks on my thighs and back of knee from the stockings!!
Then the stocking were not the correct size and you should have taken them off. Tight TEDS can be a real hazard.
Opinion is I really overdid it not using crutches and not resting for a couple of days or is it the new parts not working or slipping or something like that?
Congratulations! You are a new member of the ODIC (Over Did It Club). I suggest you go back and read my responses to your answers in post #58

I am learning on line with duolingo.
Tell you what - as a trade off, I tried duolingo and didn't find it much good. Mind you, I only tried the first 'lesson'. Are you finding it good?

Hi @Josephine I guess you are saying that all this pain in thigh, groin, hamstring, outside thigh, calf, etc has nothing to do with my new parts and everything to with overdoing it and stockings? And I do not need to rush to A&E and have new hip replaced?
Yes for duolingo, I am finding it good but as I recently spent 18 years living in France and speaking French am finding the Spanish ok. I think Spanish easier than French, much more phonetic.
One last question for you if I may, am thinking of going back to paracetamol .....what do you think? I found no difference in them for pain and much easier on stomach. Thanks again. If you ever need to say 'He's leaving Friday' I can help you in 9 languages.

Mostly the overdoing it. But nothing to do with your new parts so no A&E! But I have a suspicion you knew that already!

I rate paracetamol very highly.A very under-rated pain med.

Oh dear, well I've never been able to master even a simple phrase in any language so obviously I have a disadvantage! I've always admired people who are bilingual much less multi.

But see, I want to learn a bit of Portuguese because I discovered a channel that shows biblical stories from Brazil. There is a box set of a particular series (Joseph of Egypt) on sale in Amazon which I'd love to get but it's not translated so wouldn't be much good to me! In the meantime, I'll have to stick with the recordings I made from our satellite channel service and just hope against hope that my PVD doesn't break down because it's not possible to transfer them to another device.:boohoo:
