hi @Constanze guten tag und vielen dank [probably wrong]. My deutsch starts and finishes with du habst schoene braune/blaue augens... which I am sure is all spelt very badly. Thank you for your message, down day for me today. Again, had been going well, yesterday hardly used crutch at all but had to help assemble recliner chair which took hours - it is supposed to be easy for a child to assemble but no children available only old duffers. Not too far away from Welwyn Garden City at all, in a place called Stanstead Abbotts, if you google images you will see river and lots of people living on house boats, about 45 minutes by train from centre of London. Its about 20 minutes from Welwyn when no traffic but quite a long way to Wiesbaden.

France, where I lived for 18 years, has a longer convalescence time as well and also a lot of physio visiting and thalasso [water therapy]. Had been on anti coagulants injecting every day so hopefully it has cleared up.

I just feel so lucky that by chance I found bone smart, it answers all of your questions and a lot that you hadn't even thought of......it really is a fantastic source of comfort and friendship and good vibes

Oh my stars...you had to ASSEMBLE the recliner.. Poor Jamesdean....well, how is it?
Hopefully you didnt have any parts left over (I said this to my OS after surgery as well)

That really is alot and Im guessing it was mostly done bent over unless you assembled it on your dining room table:snork:
I bet your quads and everything attached are SORE.
Hope you have it done now and Please Rest. Ice and Recline....tomorrow, (maybe the next day) will be a good day.

@Mojo333 Had help from another old duffer but yes hurting today. I had spent the last two days not using aids at all but today really needed crutch so know overdid it. Recliner is good and I can sit on it in some comfort although sitting on the incision still hurts obviously and feel the new bionic bits or perhaps the surgeon has lost his watch???
Anywho, resting, icing, elevating.....enjoy your turkey and football

Thanks Jamesdean.
Your brand new hip is still healing and you Will need to baby it and give it the time it needs...so you won't appreciate my moaning.:umm:
My hips are 98% Great at a year and a half out. This will be you!
So I've been getting at it like a 25 year old at 55...distributing Turkeys at my job at a food bank...working 10 hour days...and hope I don't have to See another turkey ..till next year!:heehee:
Please give yourself plenty of time to heal...you will dodge chronic problems and in a few short months you will be Golden.:ok:

@Jamesdean so glad you purchased a recliner, I love mine and it has paid its way twice over! Can't believe you put it together though! Yikes. Hope you are relaxing, reclining and icing! :ice: .
Congratulations on your one month anniversary! :yes!:

You're going to love the recliner.
I hope you're feeling better after some rest.
Wishing you comfort as you continue on your journey. A great rest of the week to you!
@Jamesdean

Ebenfalls guten Tag und vielen Dank @Jamesdean ,
ich habe grüne Augen. - If you can read this your'e fluent:flwrysmile:Anyway, thank you for the greetings in German. That's very nice of you. Poor you. I'm sorry sitting on the incision hurts. I had the lateral approach with a small incision on the outside of my thigh. I know this is also commonly practiced in the UK. Do you know why you had posterior? I have heard that one reason why surgeons practice a particular approach and not another one is simply because they can do that one in the most professional and safest manner, not so much for reasons of the anatomy of the patient. I hope you will have better days in your future. Enjoy your new recliner. Best - Constanze.

@Constanze Danke und wie gehts green eyes. Willst du mich heiraten was another phrase that I found useful for a while but only for an evening. No idea why I had posterior but I know there was a lot of correction to do in leg length if that is a reason maybe? The surgeon was surprised and pleased with himself that the leg lengths are now the same although I did ask to be taller. How are you and your bionic bits and thank you for your messages.

Hi @Jamesdean , You are welcome. My green eyes are fine. They actually underwent a cataract operation in September/October, and that surgery involves removing the old lenses and inserting artificial lenses, whereby lenses are chosen in such a way that any shortsightedness is also corrected so that I can now drive without glasses (what a feeling - this is also the title of an 80s song by Irene Cara (Flashdance), remember). I just need reading glasses now.

Concerning my artificial hip - that's doing fine. Actually did 2 marathons and one half-ironman on it, even though old-school surgeons advise against it. If you want to read my recovery thread follow this link: https://bonesmart.org/forum/threads/constanzes-recovery-diary.29661/page-15. It will also give you some insights into how things were done in Germany in 2015, however, I believe, medicine has improved even further in all countries ever since. Happy recovery. Constanze

@SwampHiker If only....probably only exercise I could manage today....bad day....hip replacement blues....and posted in post op blues...I was guessing that was where all blues songs got posted...you know the ones....wife left me...dog bit me...I fell off the rocker on my porch broke my guitar and hip blues.....surgeon left his watch inside of me blues.......thing on my shoulder blues.......all those famous blues songs.

How nice of you to write and share music for the pity party. Well, it's your party and you can cry if you want to. I hope it doesn't turn into a 24 hour rave though. I hope you shake the blues soon my friend. It will get better. :friends:

Thank you @SwampHiker and thing. No rave and blues is blues and no telling when you get them but having played it on ukulele a few times now out of my system. Just resting, elevating, icing and thinking of my next summer holiday which I have now booked.....positive eh? Am going to my picture where I will be doing much walking, much swimming, much pastis and much eating.....

played it on ukulele
I'm so glad you have the ukulele as a back up to continue the blues creativity station since you fell off your rocker and broke your guitar.

That summer getaway is going to be amazing. I'm envisioning pimping my walker with turf tires, a seat and an inflatable life raft to go hiking this weekend. We all have a happy place, I'm sorry today just sucks for you.

Inflatable raft? Pimping walker? Boogie Woogie on the piano? Whatever next? Actually I just realised I had worse days than this before I had the op, how quickly one forgets. Luckily I didn't fall off my guitar and break my recliner. I am heading for recliner this evening for a short spell to test drive but looking at tomorrow really to take it into fifth gear, just need pain to simmer down a wee bit before sitting on pain again. There I am back. Thank you @SwampHiker and thank you all because without you, the casting director, the producer, the writer and other actors I would not have won this award ........sorry wrong speech. My name is Dean and I am a .....oops wrong speech again. Now if only I can find someone to support me in my non smoking, yep gave up day before op and still clean....

Whew......so glad you didn't break the recliner. You need to able to use that thing so you can say me and my recliner go way back ;)

Lovely speech, I am so honored. Please continue :rofsign:

I will never forget a couple of my most notable days pre op, I think I truly traumatized some people for life on those occasions. Oops.

Congrats on the quitting smoking. I quit 2 years ago. Yes, the dental hygienist and runner that smoked a 1+ packs a day for 24 years. Wasn't easy, but completely worth it and your body thanks you (well it doesn't feel that way today).

I hope that recliner gets your motor running

Sorry to hear about your setback but hoping you soon get over it.
I have been signed off for 3mths by my uk hospital. Hate stockings too as have bruises across back of knee length ones!
My six wks up in time to be my xmas present

@SwampHiker Well my settee is staring daggers at the recliner and I am worried that when I am not in the room some sort of fight will take place. Not sure what use the footstool with the recliner is at the moment apart from putting my grabber on. Not smoking is not easy and hoping it will be a permanent thing but never say never...oops I think I just said never.
@Cathippy Ta for your message, I have the thigh highs and they are very laddered, very uncomfortable and very tight and difficult to get on and off. Still not long to go with them. I got a 6 week sickie note but the GP says he will be giving me much longer especially as my job involves standing up for 8 hour shifts and is very physical. How is your recovery going and do you know Sally pride of your alley?

Well my settee is staring daggers at the recliner and I am worried that when I am not in the room some sort of fight will take place.
Wow, I bet they are both armed too! I think the recliner may lay down and take it.

Six week definately not long enough and needs doubling :)
Since I started following advice on here specially dropping physio exercises, icing, not overdoing things and ensuring have adequate pain meds at night when pain worse, think doing better. Staying with my 88yr old mum helping as she looks after me so well whilst encouraging me to eat well and do small tasks.
Am enjoying having got off my busy lifestyle and living more mindfully
Sally Pride of your Alley.....mmm not personally but know it is a song from long ago :heehee:
I gave up smoking few yrs ago too..tough but glad now...good luck staying off them
