Magnesium at bedtime - works wonders for sore and achy muscles also, makes for some pretty "smooth moves" in the morning. Although, I must add to the sentiments of Ginny - you might feel a little less royal spending less time on the throne.

A few songs to add to that list....
At Last - Etta James
When the Levee Breaks - Led Zeppelin
Satisfaction, You Can't Always Get What You Want - Rolling Stones
Go Where You Wanna Go - The Mamas and the Papas

“should I Stay or Should I Go?” By The Clash

“
o you got to let me know
Should I stay or should I go?
It's always tease, tease, tease
You're happy when I'm on my knees
One day it's fine and next it's black
So if you want me off your back
Well, come on and let me know
Should I stay or should I go?”

Keep the faith

Ooh-oo child
are gonna get easier
Ooh-oo child
Things'll get brighter
Ooh-oo child
Things are gonna get easier

Ooh-oo child

Things'll get brighter
Some day, yeah
We'll get it together and we'll get it all done
Some day

Atrocious is right - I ended up taking milk of magnesia one day then 2 senna natural vegetable tablets the next and I was going hourly around the clock for 2 days! Now it’s just a bad dream. And that’s blazing saddles! Love your sense of humor. :heehee:
BTW no bananas when you are constipated. Good for diarrhea...
You may want to check out Nutrition in Library section. Poppet, God rest her soul, addressed many nutritional issues - a great help w my 1st hip replacement. :prayer:

Following is an article from the Library along with a Pumpkin Puree remedy provided by a member, as well as some other recipes provided by another member.
I've also read of a tea mentioned by another Staff member once called Smooth Move.

Good Luck! Between these ideas and the Magnesium and Psyllium suggestions something should help so we can end this convo, lol.

Pumpkin Purée has been suggested as a cure for Constipation.
With Pumpkin Puree' being the ONLY ingredient in the can.
Cinnamon can be sprinkled on top.

This is the "Bomb" recipe for anyone Brave (or Desperate) enough to use it.
  • one dose liquid milk of magnesia in an 8 oz. measuring cup
  • fill to 8 oz. mark with prune juice
  • Add 1 Tbsp. dark Karo syrup
  • Heat in microwave
  • Enjoy.
The Candy Apple
  • one dose of MoM in an 8 oz. measuring cup
  • fill to 8 oz. mark with apple juice
  • spoonful of brown sugar
  • Heat in microwave
  • Enjoy
Thoughts on the Bomb:
  • Beware starting this recipe if you've only purchased Cherry Flavored MoM
  • DH got "100% Prune Juice" as opposed to the store brand kind where (though it said 100% Prune Juice, the first ingredient was Water, which made DH deem if unacceptable) :bignono: The consistency of the PJ he got was very thick/syrupy.
  • I think the idea of the Karo was to sweeten the pot.... but with the cherry flavor and the Karo the resulting hot drink was sickeningly sweet and had the texture of hot beef gravy.
Thoughts on the Candy Apple:

  • I didn't make this, but if I were going to - I'd get the regular MoM
  • Buy the cheapest Apple Juice you can find...
  • I would error on the side of too little brown sugar, at least to start.

@Layla Many thanks for the gourmet recipe suggestions which I shall try out on a handful of carefully selected guests before trying them myself as I have now befriended senekot. Thank you once again for your help.

"Carefully selected" :skep: Hahaha! :loll:
I'd hate to be on that list, lol.

Would just like to wish all my new US Hippie Friends a Happy Thanksgiving. As I grew up, age 4-8 in Santa Monica, I do remember celebrating it along with what to do in the event of war [I lived there between 1960 - 1964]. I will be giving thanks in my way to meeting you all on here and putting my mind at rest. Many thanks for your help in the recovery and good wishes and speedy recovery to y'all. And enjoy ripping off the turkey legs, sorry, couldn't help myself, isn't that what they just did to us?

Happy One Month Hipversary, @Jamesdean !
:egypdance:
All of this recovery business will be well worth it.
You'll be back to your life and so grateful for your new hip.
I'm very happy with mine..finally!
Hope today is a good day!

Happy One Month Anniversary!
Thanks for your kind wishes to Hippie friends in the US. Very thoughtful of you.
You've been a nice addition to the forum and have brought us some laughs. I hope you'll continue to share your progress as it's inspiring to those following behind you.
Yep, dislocating that turkey leg will never be quite the same as before THR. Makes me cringe. :heehee:
Have a great rest of the week!
@Jamesdean

@Mojo333 and @Layla thank you for your good wishes. For several reasons it's been a long long wait for my new bionic bits and life was basically work 3 days, lay on the settee 4 days recovering.....all meds tried but eventually no relief. Am happy with my new bits and fingers crossed look forward to taking life on again. Stopped all sport over 6 years ago, and love music but playing music guitar, uke, hurt because of standing, even standing singing in to microphone hurt as well. I live near canals but it has been over 2 years that I have enjoyed walking along the towpaths so am getting excited at the prospect of being able to do stuff again. I am impatient to get going but now understand not to push it too hard. If it takes a few months then so be it.

Having said that overdid it a bit yesterday due to excitement of recliner arriving. Now elevating and icing and might just do this all day.

:ok:sounds like a plan!
They have to move a lot of stuff to the side to get those new bits in, and that soft tissue needs to heal, and those muscles and tendons need to settle before asking to perform.
It's amazing what we had done to get right again, and the body is equally amazing. But it will take the time it takes, irregardless
You will back to life in a big way.:yes!:
Hoping today is a Good Day!:ice:

Hi @Jamesdean ,
Your recovery diary is so hilarious. I'm really enjoying it. Where in Hertfordshire are you? My husband grew up in Welwyn Garden City. Now we live in a small town between Wiesbaden and Frankfurt. We actually met in Heidelberg.
I'm surprised - time and time again - how they get you to do so much so soon after hip op in the UK and the US. I wasn't released from hospital until day No 7 and then went to a rehab centre for about 3 weeks (the usual thing to do in Germany, although not a must) and the first 7 days, I was supposed to do physiotherapy exercises only in bed lying flat on my back (wriggling toes, arm exercises etc.), and walking down the corridor with crutches. Do you know why you were bleeding so long? Are you taking anti-coagulants. I had to take those until 6 weeks post op. Could that be a reason?
I liked your remark on multitasking which men can do - icing and elevating (don't forget the resting :loll:). I'm a woman and, actually, don't like multitasking. I cook meals that taste nice (my husband says that), but I take ages.
I wish you all the best on your "marathon" so that you can play your musical instruments and stand in front of a microphone again without any pain. My motto for my recovery was "Stand" by Lenny Kravitz -
Come and staaaaand up again,
come and stand,
stand, you're gonna run again.

Best from Constanze
