Cathy, forgot to mention about your statement: "the surgery, the first week (which I feel is in a class of its own haha)" BOY oh BOY can I totally concur with you. I remember thinking: "are you kidding me?" through the worst pain I've ever physically felt in my life (child birth must be right up there?). Anyway, you really describe much better all of these steps and experiences that we are all going through or have gone through beautifully. That's what is so great about this site for me. People really know what the pain was/is like.... my clients (who have never had joint replacement surgery) respond to me as if I just experienced the common cold. :)

Just finishing watching a special on Judy Garland on PBS and hopefully I can sleep tonight!

Way to go Ada, you gave the dogs a treat and then treated yourself and got some income.. Sounded like a successful day.

I think Mike, Dorothy's hubby will post as soon as he is able. Dorothy set up a thread on the post op side to make it easy for him.. Can't wait to hear also!

Sounds like a great 1st day back at work. Good for you on treating yourself to a manicure. You deserve it! Nice way to ease back into things, congrats and have a great wknd, cathy

Just returned from second day... three dogs. I am pooped! Back in bed with leg up and icing! Still felt good to be working, seeing clients, earning $, depositing $....

Half tempted to go to the pedicure place and just pay them to put my bad leg into the hot water and rub it down again like they did yesterday..... felt so good! (This is when I would like to have a partner in the house, but there is no guarantee, right?)

Going to check to see if Dorothy has posted.

Thanks for checking in, made me laugh, you saying "give yourself some credit Lady" , it was like a little scolding haha and reminder to (which I am trying it Do) stay in the positive. I see you have not posted in a while. What's up wit you? How are you feeling these days? Hope your not posting means life has taken over. Hope you are well

Hi Ada, hopefully all is going well and you are busy with your dog grooming business.. Let us have an update when you are ready :)

HELLO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will be 53 tomorrow. Why (?) Is 53 the new 35? :) I am celebrating right now I don't know, or do I? Yes, I do. I CAN MOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have Eddie Harris/Les McCann on the Bose right now (blaring - I like my music loud), listening to the first cut: "Compared to What?" SUCH relevant lyrics, hard to believe this was released SO long ago. And, I'm not that great of a dancer (raised Pentecost - HUGE no-no!), but LOVE music anyway! I am dancing (imagine the Elaine dance on Seinfeld....). I can't believe I can MOVE!

Business is slow, but my physical progress is so good. Stationary bike daily for an hour with leg curls, work on steps, and all those things they taught at hospital to do in bed. Every other day is weights for upper body combined with hip exercise. Three days, I'm in pool... wow, does that feel good. I walk, mainly, and then go to the edge and to the leg lifts (side, back, knee crunches). I'm 175 at 5"9, but doctor says to lose 40-45 more lbs. (Sounds like a lot, doesn't it?)

Still icing at night (my favorite and only partner) and watching reruns of MadMen and the Sherlock Holmes second season that came out on PBS (LOVE Benedict Cumberbatch!).

Here's sending ALL of you a HUGE hug from me in Sarasota, FL to all of you... near and far. I could not have gotten through this (It's not over yet!) without this site!

I can't believe I feel happy!

ADA, YOU ROCK!

:yay: Nothing much to add except that sounds so awesome!

And I concur with you on the appeal of Mr Cumberbatch :giggle:

Can't ask for a better early birthday greeting that yours botttomshollo. I feel like I can rock... too bad those Pentecosts put the fear in me and shame regarding dancing (amongst other things).

LOVE BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Watson isn't so bad either - whatever his name is.)

(I also watch reruns of Treme, as I lived in New Orleans for a while with a boyfriend who is the only x-boyfriend who has remained a friend.....Katrina.... what a "B.... CH"; but LOVE all the new PBS series... ZEN, too! LOVE Alan Cummings (regardless of being gay... he still rocks).

You all are great. Isn't it great to be alive? Can't believe I'm saying this..... two years in constant, chronic pain..... at too young of an age. Here's to a healthier 53 more years! :)

You DO rock girl. Your workout is putting me to shame. I am gonna have to step things up if I am gonna hang with you

What a fantastic update! Thanks so much for letting us in on the celebration and [Bonesmart.org] New Hippie in Bonesmart!

You are on the move woman - good for you -

You are welcome to come visit in Sarasota ANYTIME... Cheryl too. You can teach me how to kayak....I have a fabulous Swiss friend who wells foreign rowing boats (will be turning 70 this August - NO joint issues EVER).... we could go out with him! He would love it!

Hi Alicia, good to hear from you. Things are going well for you. You really do amaze me with all you are able to do. And Happy Birthday! I like the idea that 53 is the new 35. I'll be 52 at the end of the month, so does that mean that 52 is the new 25??? ha ha!

You keep extending invitations and you will have a whole bunch of people knocking on your door in January :-)

Take care,

Dorothy

Alicia,

Wow, iy sounds like you are doing so FABULOUSLY! YEAH! Yes,not having chronic pain and being able to move is such a beautiful gift!

Your level of activity at such an early stage sounds incredible to me (as incredible as the horrible hospital treatment you had).

Yes, 53 IS the new 35, so you keep on playing your music, girl and walking! You are just a baby!

BTW you have a very wonderful job. That is such a lovely thing to be able to work with animals, dogs in particular. (The Dog Whisperer is one of my fantasy men!)

Here is to your continued good health and happiness!

Hugs and a zillion birthday wishes!
Elle
P.S. Make sure you eat cake or something sweet on your birthday!

Headed out for my workout (God bless the stationary bike) which includes biking, eliptical, free weights, and a bunch of lower body machines in our workout room which my PT showed me how to use to help my new hip (feels SO good!). Then, one of my favorite things to do is to thrift shop (remember, I live in "God's Waiting Room" here in Sarasota), so we get lots of estates..... lots of great stuff... some bring up incredible memories, and some are very sad.... each store and/or estate sale has a "story" of whomever passed.

Then, let's see.... maybe a nap? Love a good nap.

And, I have a few items to put on Ebay to bring in some extra money while the "season" is down here in Sarasota, and I have no dogs to groom today.

A BIG shout out to all HIPPIES for a healthy and progress filled day.

Alicia (remember, I'm 35 today, not 53!) :spin:

Sunday night here in Sarasota.... rain (normal)... and I'm watching PBS - Inspector Lewis. And, I have to admit it ... I am really, really enamored with Benedict Cumberbatch; especially since I just learned that he's doing two Simpsons episodes, separate from Star Trek, etc... and wow, what a pic of him on the beach! George Clooney.... step ASIDE! Physically, I'm feeling great, although (JO), three days ago, our humidity was WAY up, and my WHOLE body ached, not at all just my surgical side. Is this what happens re: OA? Hugs to all. Josephine

Josephine; when you have time, could you check my recent post regarding humidity here in FL and how it affects me? Take your time...........................................................but, thanks. Alicia

Hey Alicia,
Your workout sounds absolutely fantastic! Good for you!

I have been watching more TV than I have in my entire life! I have just been through the whole season of the Grimm. (!!) See, there is a side benifit in everything!

YES! I do notice humidy can make me ache, but not as much as cold. I live in the tropics (91 degrees at 8 am; so much humidity, everything must be put away or it will get an immediate mould culture!), so I guess it is like Florida.

Here's to your continued progress!!!

Elle

Ooo I like conversations about fanciable men? Mr Cumberbatch could never replace George Alicia, I mean, George is just so scrummy. I think Benedict is an aquired taste.lol.

I'm with Elle on Ceasar Milan...mmmmmm now he is a cutie and so masterful...and he could sort out my wayward pooches for me...he's my first choice even though I am probs taller than him what with my added leg length :rotfl:

Belated Happy Birthday, hope you had a brill day. Your exercise routine puts makes mine look like a doddle ( very easy) I must say. Don't know about the humidity, it always help me to be in a hot climate but I am in the freezing UK!

Take care

Ann
