THR New Hip -Now bionic!!<

@Cas I'm doing well, thanks! I just started working with a physio--have met with her twice and have a few more visits scheduled (I'm that rare person on this site who actually likes PT). Nothing radical--some strengthening and range of motion exercises--and yesterday she finished with massage which was lovely. I know what you mean about walking speed! I'm constantly having to tell my friends to slow down please.

Jaycey's advice about getting new shoes is interesting (and I've heard that before)--might be part of why I've been getting some low back pain. Shoe shopping here I come!

@Jaycey oooh how many donkeys? Would love a couple but not sure I could afford them. We have stables and 2 paddocks that are empty - person person. Have bought new shoes wellies and boots but it doesn't seem to help back. I told physio about the back and he totally ignored that!!! Why did I bother. This forum is so much more helpful. Glad to be back in touch. Cheers Carol

I have 2 donkeys (they are my avatar). We are fostering them from the Donkey Sanctuary. Yes, they can be expensive. But I think their expense is less than a horse.
I told physio about the back and he totally ignored that!!!
I found they usually ignore any mention of back pain if they don't know how to treat it. Not all PT know about spinal issues. I found most just want to give the same exercises to everyone no matter what the issue.

Hi all am still trundling on the recovery path. Still have problems with the back pain and it's that that stops me from doing more and not my new hip. Also still have energy drops and just rest for a while. Have taken advice to get heel riser so am trying that for a while to see if it helps with back pain otherwise will see doc and ask to see a back specialist. Hopeful that it will get resolved somehow. How are you all doing? Hope you are having a great recovery.

Hey Cas!! Sorry to hear you are still having the back pain issue. I hope the heel riser helps with that. Those energy drops are no joke! I try to just make myself go lay down and have a nap or at least rest if not sleep right after lunch. :)

@Cas I still get an energy dip--as @Tweetybrd says, usually right after lunch (like right now!). Not nearly as bad as it used to be though! Sorry to hear about the back pain.

@Cas I sometimes feel a huge energy drain late afternoon. Sorry you're experiencing it too, but it helps knowing I'm not the only one. I also have trouble sleeping. Monday I actually slept 5 hours in a row - then went back to sleep a few times, twice waking up after 2 hours. Boy did it feel great to get 9 hours of sleep. But last night I only got 3.

I'm so sorry your back is still bothering you. I wish you the best of luck resolving this.

My problem area is my feet. I have bunions and hammer toes and build up painful callouses on the bottom of my feet. So, while my hip is pretty good, the bottom of my feet hurt which definitely impedes my walking distances comfortably.

But I can walk further now than before my surgery. That is truly a blessing.

I have a question for you. It was suggested that if we sleep on our side we should put a pillow between our legs. How long do we need to do this?

Hope you had a good day and are able to accomplish more each day than before your surgery. Barbara

@Tweetybrd @baclectic and @gertie Hi all glad to hear from you. The pillow thing - not sure. I find if I have one it gets moved out of way now during the night !!! So maybe the hip lets you know? I always wake up with it on the floor these days LOL ! I think there's a thread on here about it - will look. Back pain is very wearing and gets me down at times - a bit like the hip pain before hip op. Painkillers are not very effective which is why I'm off to see the doctor next week. So pleased you are all doing so well apart from the energy drain thing. It's annoying isn't it. Keep in touch - hugs carol

@Cas I saw my surgeon and he said the pillow was never necessary. Oh well!

Carol - I so hope the Doctor you're seeing about your back can help you and give you some relief. Pain is so draining and wears you down. I'll say a few prayers for you.

I'll be checkin BoneSmart to see how you're doing. In the meantime try ice and a heating pad. Maybe they'll give you some relief. Big Hugs - Barbara

@baclectic thanks Barbara so fed up and worn down by back especially after hip was doing so well. Still we are used to pain so hey ho was just hoping would be ok. Will keep you updated. So glad your problems are now going away you will be back horse riding in no time! Hows the new house going it sounds fab? I have an adopted sister in Montana. The pics she sends are amazing. It's much warmer where you are. Cheers Carol

@Cas are you seeing a back specialist. Sure hope you can get some relief. I know how draining constant back pain can be! I am just hoping the weather improves soon as it makes my back feel even worse!

@Jaycey Hi there am going to ask doctor to refer me to one when I see him next week. I know it will be months before I see one so may go private for first consultation. Pain can be so bad I can't walk unless I bend over and do a hunchback of notredam impersonation LOL! I agree with you about the cold wet weather it doesn't help. It's such a shame as my hip is doing ok and I now have another problem - yuck. Am taking 2x200 brufen and 2x500 cocodamol for it and that helps. The bits that were numb around my hip have got feeling back and can ache a bit but can put up with that as I know it's still healing. Can't wait for good weather and we can have a coffee. Maybe by then all will be better. I think because I was in so much pain preop that it was masking how bad my back had become. Can only go up from here. Carol

@Cas So sorry to hear that the back pain is persisting. Just not fair that you've got that shiny new hip and can't enjoy it. Here's hoping a back specialist will have some answers (and that the weather improves--we have snow, snow, and more snow, just like the picture in my avatar).

If you can afford it do go private. At least you can get the ball rolling.
Can't wait for good weather and we can have a coffee.
Sounds good! I am so tired of the cold and wet - and today it's so dark outside!

@gertie Oh am so jealous - wish we had some snow the dogs love it!! I know it's cold and wet but some snow would be a nice change

@Cas Dogs love it! The little kids on my street love it! My new hip...is wary! But yes, snow is better than the dreary rain we've had so far.

@Josephine Hi am 4 months post op tomorrow. Everything was going well but now have bad pain across the top of pelvis and also in buttock making it difficult to walk as much as I used to. Feel i'm going backwards. Can you help please? I am taking 2 x 500 co-codamol 3 x a day. Thanks Carol

I'll do my best - perhaps you could tell me the stop using this chart

@Josephine thank you for your reply. Deep constant pain in RR2B and RR3B also RL2B and RL3B also have pain in WR2B and CR2F. It's hard to walk with pain in back, also washing up when standing at sink. I seem to be walking bent over forwards as this helps with pain. Hope you can help - thank you Carol

I would imagine you do walk bent over. The red area is typical low back pain which is most likely muscular in origin. I would suggest you see a good chiropractor.

As for the blue spot, there is no doubt in my mind that this is our old friend Piriformis syndrome which is actually very common. A chiropractor should be able to help with that also though there are sume remedies suggested in the article.

As for the CR2F site, there is no C on this chart. Would you like to try again?
