Hi Cathy! Just read your post of 4/20. Glad you finally got your wheels back! I felt the same way the first time I got behind the wheel and finished my one and only errand of the day..."now where should I go?" LOL but it just feels so great do gain some autonomy.

Beyond the driving, it seems like you have had quite the week! Congrats!

Sending good thought across the lake as I live in Plattsburgh!!!

Be well, Kathy

Freedom is exausting :) I wanted to do something this wknd since i was finally free of restrictions so my partner and i went out to dinner and to see a short film series sat night. I slept till 10:30 a.m. I woke up shocked as I usually don't sleep that late. I got up saying " why did you let me sleep so late"? She said "because I figured you needed it" DUH, I guess so haha. Wow, I did not think getting out in the world would wear me out like that , even though I read others say it. Guess I thought I was past the being tired stuff.

Today I had my first pool PT. It was fabulous. Being able to move and have the gentle support of the water assist me was so nice. I really had a workout and it felt really good. Again, shocked at how tired I was. Came home, ate lunch and had to lay down for an hour.

The best thing about the past couple of days is that when I had my post op, he said I could go back on my anti-inflammatory medicine. Since I did, I have had some back pain relief and actually have only been taking Tylenol during the day instead of pain meds. :yes 4:

Cathy, It sounds so great. I love swimming because it is so freeing. Its so good to see that you are having fun. Keep it up but make sure you don't overdue it but have a fun. :doggieshmooze:Tashia:friends:

Hi Cathy,

Well, it sounds like your spouse is doing a great job of listening to your body's signals by allowing you to sleep in this weekend... :heehee:

You may find that the fatigue waxes and wanes in a few months as you get further out from your surgery. It really will improve, but for now you are still early out from your surgery and have a whole lot of healing going on inside and sleep time is a big time for recharging -- so, do give in to the "nap attacks" when they happen.

Glad to hear that you are enjoying your pool PT!
Take care,
Cardie

Hi Cathy,

Well arn't you doing great:thumb: Gallivanting out for a meal and to the cinema, I'm so pleased that you are enjoying yourself. Your pool PT sounds lovely. I wouldn't mind doing that. I had hydrotherapy years ago and it was wonderful, didn't help me at all but it was very enjoyable.lol.

Enjoy your lie ins and afternoon naps, make the most of them whilst there's no need to feel guilty about having them I know I sure am:biggrin:

Take care

Ann.x.

Hi Cathy,

Always listen to your body when it says have a rest, sleep or even forty winks! When you're sleeping and resting you're healing and that enables you to work harder at your PT etc. and then you'll need some more sleep..... it's called a virtuous circle. Sometimes, unfortunately, my virtuous circle is interrupted by my wife .....cracking the whip!! ...but I am a bit further down the road than you.
Great advice from Anniepops .....enjoy while you can!!

Charlie
ps The pool PT sounds great.

Hi Cathy,

Happy belated birthday and congratulations on your post OS visit! Yay to freedom.....LOVE!

The pool sounds lovely too. Great news!!

LLD UPDATE Anyone who has read my posting know I struggle with the right thing to do around this and that i have put a lift from my doctor in temporarily to ease my back pain. Got to my "wonderful" chiropractor and she said we are going to work hard at the pelvic tilt issue and keeping me balanced through this. She was able to get me even, also feels if we can, it is best to keep it out ( as most of you agree with) Hers is the opinion I have been waiting to get. I am going to go a couple times a week for a few weeks with some massage on the front end of the adjustment (massage therapists next door). She will even me out each time, time will tell how long i will hold the adjustment and we will see how it goes from there. If i can hold the adjustment we can space it out more. So even if it takes a while for my body to balance out, we can at least help it along and try to lessen the imbalance/limp to a manageable place so my body can tolerate things and my back won't kill me.

...and OMG a whole week went by, 7 wks yesterday. Time is moving a little quicker now that I can be out and about. Another big deal is that I can now put my socks on by myself :yahoo: . It might not be a totally normal way to do it yet, but I can get them on.

And the saga continues :)

Hi Cathy,

My NON operated leg is about 1- 1.5cms shorter than my operated leg we THINK! But as it used to be 3 - 3.5 cms shorter I'm pretty happy, I use a 9mm lift for my heel and get on with things.
You'll sort things out eventually meantime don't worry ..... enjoy your new hardware!

Charlie

And the saga continues :)

I'd say this part of the saga sounds pretty darn good!! Socks on and the building of your "Village" of positive & supportive helping practitioners -- very nice!! :thumb:

Take care,
Cardie

Cathy,

That sounds great!

At the moment my LLD (which is still there) is around #6 on my things to deal with after THR list. #1 is getting back into stretching my hamstrings so jogging works again. I have had two failed attempts to jog in the last week where my operated leg hamstring was very not happy... I'm wondering, that leg got made a couple cm longer and I wonder if the muscles are constantly being stretched and making it a bit finicky and strained.

But I'd also say my LLD doesn't BOTHER me enough to do anything about....for the time being it's just there.

Glad yours is moving in the right direction....

Z

Sounds like the chiropractor is on the right track. I'll keep checking in

My LLD is not driving me as crazy as it was but it's still bothersome to some degree - sometimes more than others.

Nancy

Good to hear your doing great. Messages do really help and so does being in a pool. Do take easy and don't forget to make sure you don't get into pain. Do have a wonderful weekend and enjoy the freedom you now have. :doggieshmooze:Tashia:cat-kittyandsmiley:

Hiya Cathy, thanks for stopping by on my thread. I couldn't find you, had to go all the way to page three and there you were.

How are you doing. I hope you have been getting out and about still. You're right what you said about the tiredness. I thought I was doing well with the not feeling too sleepy thing until I actually started to go out then bam, tiredville here we come.lol.

I'm happy to hear the chiropractor is helping you with your LLD. How is the LLD feeling now, any better?

And a big well done on managing to put your socks on yourself, that s a massive acheivement :yes 4: your ROM must be much improved.

Take care

Ann.x.

Just drop by to say "Hi" and hope that you have a wonderful weekend and that you don't have any pain. Hope the messages are working. I had one this week and WOW was great. Take care! :doggieshmooze:Tashia:friends:

Hi Kathy

Just wanted to drop by and say hello... How are doing?

I read your post on Diane's thread about not working, and did you relocate?

That along with surgery is tough going.

I know I prattle on about my countdown to retirement a lot, it really can't come soon enough for me.. Too stressful where I work, but no choice.

I must go back and read through your whole thread and catch up more with you :) xx

I realize I've not done an update in a few weeks. 10 wks wed. - crazy. Those of you who've been with me know I struggle with the LLD and as a consequence, SI joint pain. Been keeping that fairly calm as I work with chiro and PT. It is still there but with extra adjustments it has not been as severe so things got significantly better. Still with cane all the time except moving around kitchen and a few steps here and there. Slower progress than I would like, taking a long time to strengthen hip, but was moving forward bit by bit with weakness but not much pain at all.

Until...UGH, Now I have a giant pain in my butt, pain down the back of my leg and between the two, having my first "setback", Now I can't even walk a few steps without cane without aggravating it. Getting in and out of car now a pain. Going on about 1 1/2 wks. The pain down back of my leg came after a chiro visit, then something pulled while testing to see if i could do a one legged bridge. Every time it seems to get a bit better I do something to kick it up again. Hard to all of a sudden stop everything.

I am frustrated, trying to find my "Z" attitude of just dealing with what I have been given. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. Though frustrated things moving slow, I really felt I was mostly in a good mood and now I got really down about the whole thing. I guess it came at a time I am realizing I am SO not going to be where I thought I would be at 3 months. It really does not help being in a new place with very few friends. I miss my "peeps". Going home to Wisconsin end of month and thought I would be feeling a bit better.

Heat, ice, hammy stretches posted from Charlie, a few pain pills, a few tears, reading back posts of others and I'm plugging along. I think going home will be a nice break from focusing on my health so intensely, even though I am not where I want to be.

Gotta go take my walk and head to PT. - hope that was not too whiny :) , but it is just where I am at. -Cathy

Cathy,

Can totally relate...this is sometimes the slowest recovery...I have to remind myself some days of the pain I had before my surgery...which was debilitating and unrelenting. Now at the very least I know issues that come up will resolve and nothing is as bad as the bone on bone pain. And even though it feels like you may be like this forever, you won't, even the emotional stuff continues to come and go but try to keep your eye on the bigger picture, and try and just go with it. (really only choice we have so I try to make it my choice, some days easier than others) hang in there...Peace.

Cathy, I'm so sorry to hear you have had a bit of a set-back...sending big hugs your way:friends:

It does sound like the chiro session has tweaked something, I can understand how difficult it must be to going back to doing so little again but perhaps if you have a good rest before your little break back home by the time the end of the month comes you might be back on track.

Take care of you

Ann.x.

Hi Cathy,

I am so sorry to hear about your pain in the butt and leg. I have had a similar experience and it is hard to not get discouraged.
Your recovery has gone really well. I know that you will be smiling agin soon and out of pain. Try to take the time to rest now and have a great time on your trip.

Best,
Courtney
