Re: This is my story

Hi SL. Yes, that female OS is the one I was referred to by my original OS. She is at the Spine Center at the same hospital. I will meet with her on February 1. I will find out then how she wants to proceed. Fingers crossed...

Thanks for thinking of me. How are you holding up?

Re: This is my story

It is so frustrating to have to wait so long to see the doctors - especially when they think they have zeroed in on something. I hope all goes well with your appointment in February and with your D & C. Are they still talking about taking the wires out?

Re: This is my story

You know Donna, I think he totally changed his mind on the wires being the problem after he saw the results of the MRI. He was going to remove them as that is the only thing he could figure may be causing the problem as the inplant seems to be "perfect", in the eyes of all three OS's that I saw.

I guess he wants this spine doctor to evaluate and after he had already consulted with others at the hospital, there is an epidural injection that will take care of the problem.

Evidently the nerve that is pinched at L4-5 is in the area of the back that would cause the thigh pain. We shall see. I am willing to try that over having the wires removed.

Re: This is my story

Hi Janet

Sending you lots and lots of hugs and love from OZ - and we can't forget the Angels.

I do hope things get sorted for you soon, you have been through far too much. Surely 2012 has got to be your year to become pain free... This is what I wish for you, you have endured so much... Hang in there, you are incredibly strong xxxx

Re: This is my story

Janet,

I'm alright, it's kind of painful to deal with but for now I'm just trying to build up more muscle, once I'm confident with the strength I'll be ready to take the next step. It's certainly been a learning experience that I would have preferred not to undertake, but it is what it is, and I've honestly learn to deal with those curve balls thrown my way when it comes to my hip.

I'm glad the OS seems to be checking everything out for you, and that there are the two possibilitys that may be causing you the problems with your hip. Hopefully, a epidural will give you some long awaited relief. Although our situations are differant from one anothers I do understand how frustrating all of this has been on you, the last thing in the world I would have ever expected was 6 surgeries. Like you've often said though, things could be a lot worse that's for sure.

I'm keeping you in my thoughts and prayers, and hopefully when I log onto bonesmart again I'll be able to read that your feeling better!

Re: This is my story

Just popped in and nice to see hopefully things are starting to come together you have waited soooooooo long you really deserve this.

Take care Janet.

Re: This is my story

Hello Janet,

Checking in to say hello and see how you are doing with the shingles, hopefully it has healed now? Glad you have your appointment with the new OS.

Sending you lots of love!

Sarah

I love you new profile picture of the cat....beautiful!

Re: This is my story

Hi guys. Thanks so much for the kind words Diane Marie, and for thinking of me Sarah. I can't seem to shake the yuckies after the shingles...still feel sooooo blah and believe it or not, had two more spots appear today!

Had my pre-op testing for the D&C yesterday so I am going to have to call the Gyno doc tomorrow as I don't know what will happen now with the latest, but this started the beginning of December and is still going on!

Even though the pain and itching was almost non existent this time (third actually!), the spots just keep on coming! But the lethargic feeling is awful as well as the scarring...my procedure is scheduled for next Friday the 27th...

Sarah, my kitty is Lizzie Tish. She will be 14 February 1st and keeps fighting back from being terribly sick with asthmatic bronchitis. Really nothing much they can do for her now, so I just keep loving her and spoiling her. She's my baby.

Well, I am heading for a second THR in the near future I am guessing. I just cancelled the appointment with the new spine doc OS as it is a few days after the D&C and I though it best to reschedule in case I wasn't feeling great. The new date is Feb.13th.

But, I am thinking of heading back to get an appointment for hip #2 as it has really been bothering me now that I am off the prednisone. After reading about Z's surgery and recovery, I am seriously thinking of calling his Dr. Murphy as he is at the same hospital that I go to.

After what I've been through, I would like the least invasive surgery as possible and since I've got some time on my side, I just may call him, but I've got to get this other business out of the way first and start feeling better.

I honesly have been feeling just terrible for weeks now and believe me, it is really hard trying to get caught up on all the threads now that it has gotten so busy! I have missed everyone so much but haven't had the energy to post! I have still been reading though.

Thanks again for being so thoughtful :wink1: !

Re: This is my story

Hi Janet

So sorry you are still feeling 'blah' darling. I just wish things would turn around for you for the better, you so deserve a break. lol xx

p.s. Thanks for the emails - love you :) keep your chin up.

Re: This is my story

Thanks Sandy & Julie. With all the darn pills I take (and I have been cutting out a lot because I think they are causing chemical warfare in my poor ol' body:sick:), there isn't one amking me feel good!

The Cymbalta had me sweating rivers for 2 months and I thought it was the prednisone! Off both of those and the poor ol' second hip is really raising it's painful side!

After reading Haldox's thread I figure why wait when the end result is inevitible. I've been thru the worse possible, so it can only be better this time around right :prayer1:?

Re: This is my story

Hi petal - hang in there, we're all rooting for you!

Re: This is my story

Awww, thanks Jo. The time has come I guess. I so wish I had a good leg to stand on though. This will be difficult with the #1 leg so weak and fairly useless ...

Well, no matter. The bone on bone pain yesterday nearly brought me to tears. This is hapening so quickly! I would try another cortisone shot to buy some time, but why?

#1 leg isn't going to get that much stronger in a short time anyway, so I don't think I have much of a choice. I'd rather not have anymore steroids, thank you very much ...

When I do have this done, I am going to have the wires taken out of #1 as the OS seems to have forgotten about that after seeing the impingement on the MRI.

I honestly don't think it's a nerve though, now that I've had time to think about it. I did hurt myself when I fell too, that I know. I think a CT scan may be the best test to request.

@Josephine: what test do you think I should ask for to see if the femur in #1 is OK to have the wires removed? Bone scan, MRI, or CAT scan? X-ray isn't dependable enough and I've had those...thanks.

Re: This is my story

After all the time they've been in there, they're ready! Any time after about 5 or 6 months.

Re: This is my story

Right, but it was only September when I hurt myself. That would be 5 months. I think a wire may be bent and hurting me too, since the fall.

Re: This is my story

Janet...when it rains it pours but the sun will come out soon! Sounds like you have a great plan to get yourself to a happier place and I just admire your strength and fight. You and your beautiful cat are tough cookies!

My L leg bothered me towards the end pre op of the R and is back to behaving again, so maybe since your other hip is going out its also affecting your R one even more.

Still keeping you in my thoughts :grouphug2:

Re: This is my story

Janet, I hope the sun shines on you and brings you happiness and pain free living soon! Hang in there. Sounds like you're getting to the bottom of this.

Re: This is my story

Thanks guys. You know, now that hip #2 is acting up REALLY badly, I am getting very nervous that having the D&C next Friday is going to put me in a position that just may hurt me more!

I certainly am going to be very specific to the OR team, but I remember after one of my "facet blocks" before #1, I couldn't walk after I came out of the anesthesia. They hurt me when they rolled me over.

About a week later I had to have the cortisone shot in my right hip and that lasted three years. I would rather just get it over with now as I am getting weaker and weaker.

I'll tell you, I have not been the same since that bad infection this summer, and I don't know that it isn't still taking it's toll on me. All I know is, I am not doing really well and haven't been for months now...

Re: This is my story

Hi Janet

So sorry that nothing seems to be going right for you at the moment... you poor darling. You are such an inspiration to us who sweat the small things.

We just have to believe and hang onto our faith and send you prayers that YOU WILL BE BETTER SOON.

I am staggered at how much you are trying to cope with. - very much an inspiration to me!

Lots of love xxxx
