Re: This is my story

I do have confidence in him Haldox, more than I thought after we cleared the air in December. I can't believe actually how these doctors or medical "professionals" throw each other under the bus!

I have heard this before among surgeons but had never experienced it personally. I actually felt msyself coming to the defense of my first OS when the second was saying bad things about him.

And then my OS was saying the the second's father was a maverick in the medical world and that he was certainly not his father! Boys! Is this how it is everywhere?

I also heard this about two other OS's fighting in the office where patients could hear them...I won't share the story, but I'm sure you know what I mean @Josephine: ...

Or is this just a US thing?

Anyway, I think I am doing the right thing. I know I will get the best possible care ever from him...

Re: This is my story

Nanamac, you sound confident in your decision to have your original OS do your second hip. With all that's happened, if it didn't feel right I'm sure you wouldn't be sticking with him. And I'm betting he will do everything possible to make sure your operation and care are as close to perfect as he can.

Re: This is my story

Thanks Jen. I think it is the right decision, even with all that happened first time around. How are you doing today?

Re: This is my story

Janet, I think you're the only person who can decide which surgeon you want to work on you. I got so much negativity from people around me about my choice of surgeon. My THR was at the same hospital as my earlier (unsuccessful) surgeries and people didn't like that. Or they didn't like that my OS was so young, which is true... I don't think he even shaves yet... but is that a problem?

In the end, I'm really pleased with my outcome and I hope you will be too. That's all that really matters.

Re: This is my story

:dancy: So glad you are going for #2 Janet! I am sure getting rid of that horrid pain will let you see life if a whole new way. Very little wait time as well - that's great!

We will all be with you Janet (hope they make room for us in OR :th_heehee:).

Re: This is my story

Thanks again guys. There has been way too much time to sit and think about all of this and be in way too much pain, will all my medical people at a loss and nothing changing (meaning from the ongoing problems regarding #1 surgery!

This way, they will see exactly what I am talking about as I will be as incapacitated as a bilteral patient. I have not been able to strengthen my leg on hip #1 because of all the problems with it since the surgery.

Once they see for a few days how bad it is, somone is going to have to sort it out. They won't be able to discharge me if I can't walk. I actually feel that hip #2 will be better immediately than my #1 is almost 2 years later...

I also plan on having the wires from #1 removed during the surgery for #2. So, when this is done, my leg might fall off :loll:...well, not really, but you know what I mean ...something there is very wrong...:skeptical:

Re: This is my story

Janet

You have a plan and away forward. Absolutely fantastic!

I am so pleased decisions have been made - You ae happy to proceed with this surgeon , so this can only be the right decision.

You mentioned the "drew the short straw" - again so right.

Sometimes all the research and interviews and questions to other surgeons may give the right PR answers but at the end of the day it is about having confidence in his skill.

I know when I first met my surgeon he came across as - shall we say - not the best bedside manner. After a few visits we were sharing a joke and his skill to me was never in doubt.

Janet, Go for it!

Let 2012 be the year of finally turning the corner

My best wishes to you

Dave

Re: This is my story

I'm happy for you that you feel confident in your decision - that's all that really matters. As always, prayers in your direction to see you through your procedure Friday and hip #2 in March. And to get rid of those blasted shingles, too!

Donna

Re: This is my story

:secretaea:Let's not mention them right now Donna. They were gone, or so I thought, when another few popped out again! Too close now for anything else. I just want this stuff done and out of the way.

Hee hee, I know what you mean though, and appreciate the thoughts!

Moving right along...

Re: This is my story

Good luck, Janet!! You have your plans in place and hope that gives you some feeling of power during this time when you have been such a hostage to medical opinions and determinations.

Re: This is my story

Well, at least the latest with the hips is getting my mind off the procedure on friday, :th_heehee:

Re: This is my story

Janet,

I'm sure you will do fine with the procedure Friday, sincerely wishing you the best with the 2nd THR.

Will be thinking of you, and praying that all is smooth sailing for you!

Re: This is my story

Hi Janet!
I've been catching up with your latest news and am so glad that you have a plan of action. Things can only get better now!
Hugs from California! :friends:

Re: This is my story

Just checking in to see how you are, Janet, and to wish you all the best for Friday. I'm sure they will treat you with great gentleness and the procedure will be over before you know it. Then it's all set for hip no. 2. I'm sending you lots of love and wishes that those nasty old shingles will pop right back in again where they came from.

Is Friday's procedure just day surgery?

Love and hugs, Jane

Re: This is my story

Thanks again my Hippy friends. Yes Jane, it is day surgery. I'm not concerned about the procedure, and I have calmed down about them being careful with my legs.

One thing now that is a bit concerning is that my BP has gone from high to pretty low now that I am off all the other meds! I know Prednisone can increase your BP, but I think other meds were raising it as well.

What a strange way to figure this out! So, now I'm closely montoring the BP and trying to not let it drop too low. I plan on trying to stay off everything that I have cut out for this surgery until after the #2 hip surgery so I may not need as much at all after the hip replacemnt surgery!

That will be a good thing to have happen on top of getting both hip and leg issues resolved. I'm feeling much more positive about all of this:thumb:!

Re: This is my story

Good luck tomorrow Janet, will have you in my thoughts.

Maybe you could try lots of fluids for your low BP, not just water but gatorades, vitamin waters,etc-something to get electrolytes in you. I know you said this is quite possibly from stopping all the meds but doing the above I believe post op kept my BP at more of a normal range and not as low as the last time.

Re: This is my story

For some reason, only just (accidentally) lit on Dave's post about googling medical conditions - it was well known when I was training that you could always tell which ward a student nurse was on because they would be having associated 'illnesses'! Right down to the girl that was working on the genito-urinary ward (male obviously) and was sure she suffered from urinary retention and therefore might have an enlarged prostate! Obviously wasn't paying attention in classes when we discussed the anatomy of the male reproductive system! :hysterical:
