@beachgal @grmplatebrd Maybe we should stop talking about sex and "posterior approach" in the same post. ;)

In breaking news, we may need to get different first aid tape. My skin is a bit too sensitive for what we're using.

Bottom line, no matter what approach is used it's major surgery. Literally every OS has his/her comfort level with restrictions. But in the end you are all recovering from joint replacement. A few short weeks of restrictions for a lifetime without all that bone on bone pain.

My skin reacts differently to the adhesives on the new bandages and tapes. Evidently it dries out the area so much that any prolonged use tends to leave the area red and irritated. Be careful to use a very light-weight tape with little stickiness and change it often, taping over different skin areas rather than the same places over and over.

@beachgal and @grnplatebrd, I probably wouldn't have well it worked if I wasn't getting so annoyed trying to use the walker in our small bathroom. I swear I had to move the walker 6 times to take 2 steps.

LOL I know what you mean! I have long wanted to enlarge my dinky master bathroom. And after this surgery/walker thing - my boyfriend stated "Okay if you are staying in this house you need to do something about this bathroom!" :)

My posterior approach and uncemented prosthesis require the bone to adhere to the stem so the caution of not full weight-bearing until
closer to the six week mark.

Yep I guess that must be one of the differences in the recoveries. Mine is anterior, and uncemented, and I was full weight-bearing as soon as I felt I could.

When my PT gal took off the bandage at ten days, it pulled off everything but my prosthesis! I still have some pink skin where the adhesives were but incision looks great. She retaped it with steri strips and now they are falling off as planned.

Hubby gets shots every three weeks for asthma control and they always put gauze and tape over the shot site and when I'd take it off that night, his skin would peel off too! I bought some light-adhesive band aids and made him take them when he'd get his shots. They got the message. Now they use barely sticky tape and we promptly take it off when he leaves. Ugh. It shouldn't be so hard!!

Good girl!! Keep drinking that water!! Muscles need that fluid and your body will quit retaining water when it realizes that you're going to give it plenty!! Yay!!!

I'm also walking plenty since I have to get up every 20 minutes.

More good news, I let my boss know that I will be ready to work (from home) as of Monday, so I have assignments waiting for me already.

Work is going to add to your sense of normalcy! Such a good thing that you can work from home.

I've been filing reports for clients this week from home and it really does give you a feeling of routine and purpose. I'm so happy we are both on the other side. It's just gets better and better!

Walking outside, that's great! My PT is taking me outside on Friday, can't wait. You're doing great!

You gotta curb that desire to get out and do and do and do some more, @muckingabout! It'll get you every time. Welcome to the club---we've all been there more than once and will probably go there again even against our better judgement.

Take it easy, rest, ice, and keep us posted. [Bonesmart.org] Muckingabout's THR Recovery Thread

So now you know what "overdoing it" entails. Don't do it again!! Haha. So easy to happen

I woke up at 5 am after all my bragging about sleeping so well this week. I did get 7 hrs in but have some work to do this morning and my brain started working before my body was ready!

Beautiful sunrise this morning, though. A gift.

@bottomshollow and @beachgal actually what I realized now that I have been up and puttering, is that the problem was getting in and out of bed to go to the restroom was the problem. My groin muscles were very weak and tight going into the surgery and I'm feeling the impact now.

Today I've been up and in the recliner with less of that awkward sliding out of bed motion and I'm walking very nicely. I was moving around the kitchen mostly without leaning on my walker or the counter.

It felt really good, because this was the first time in the kitchen since before surgery and it reminded me how painful simple tasks used to be.

I could not have made it through my hip or my knee recoveries without my faithful recliner. Oh, and by the way, this is NOT me in the pics.
