@debkakes You lucky thing! We saw a young family crossing a road a couple of years ago. I couldn't believe how cute those babies were! Doesn't make me more forgiving when they get in the garbage though :)

@muckingabout It is so hard for me to imagine the amount you and most other hippies must have been in with bone on bone. I think I am getting there in one thumb but it catches and locks and doesn't hurt much at all. To think most of you live with that pain for years prior to surgery is horrifying!

Enjoy your day of relaxing... you have to be ready and relatively able bodied for your pedicure!

When I was visiting a close friend in Chicago a few years ago they had a family of racoons in the attic... very, very noisy..very cute when they caught them and sent them to a new home. Not part of the wildlife here in Ireland.

I agree....I can't imagine going on that long. I was not quite bone-on-bone, my OS said I had about one millimeter of cartilage on the outside half of the joint. And that also was causing the femur to gradually move outward. As much pain as I had at the point when I decided to go see a surgeon, I cannot imagine waiting until it was worse!! I feel fortunate when I read so many other stories here.

I think its easy to over do it when you start feeling better since you want to do more. The difference is that a day or two of rest and you feel better. Before surgery, the pain ever really went away.

@beachgal Doing great. Yesterday's break must have been good for me. Decent night of sleep and good PT. Leg lifts are getting easier now that I've learned to engage my quad muscles. New exercises today included side-stepping which was interesting and some sort of mini-squats. Getting stronger every day.

How are you doing?

Okay, this stinks. Tried to do some leg lifts, searing groin/abductor pain probably like a 7 on the 1-10 scale. Bad enough that I felt dizzy and nauseated. I had to get my husband to come and hold my operative leg to even get my feet on the ground. I'm okay now. I can walk on it, made it done the stairs and I'm icing in my recliner. I haven't had that level of pain since day two post-surgery.

That is such a pity @muckingabout. .. take it easy today! You must not be ready yet for those exercises. I hope the pain eased with th icing.

@muckingabout. It might have been the side steps & mini squats! You may have overdone it ...remember doing that early on in my recovery & then spending three of four days regretting it. Our bodies sure let us know if they're not ready! A couple of days resting & icing will help I'm sure...do take it easy!

@NoraJ and @Hoppy Nanny -- my previous PT has been in the evening, so I've never tried to do my PT exercises a second time on the same day. This time I went at one, so I thought I should. I guess not. I'm going to email my therapist to let him know and get advice.

I have no ill effects after ice, Tylenol and rest (I didn't even need to dip into the 4 Tramadol I saved for emergencies) but it really rattled my confidence.

@muckingabout What a drag you had that happen. I hope you managed a good night and are not sore this morning. You may want to skip the heavy PT today (leg lifts, etc) and rest it.

Glad you've no ill effects @muckingabout....aww don't let it shake your confidence...it's such a learning curve this recovery!! Seen so many people on here though that dont listen to their body & keep pushing too hard early on & then end up with bursitis etc...sounds like you know when you've done too much. We all do it!! Want to be up and 'at'em ...I've learnt patience during my THR recovery ....a had one though! X

@muckingabout, when I did the leg lifts and clamshells the first time at PT and was so sore, I backed off for four days then added the leg lifts (I think maybe 4 or 5) and gradually increased it a couple each day but I quit when I felt the groin pain. I can do 20 now but not every day. Same with clamshells. That won't do much for your confidence but, with time, your confidence will come. I walked 1/2 mile today without my cane and was scared the entire time. But I did it. That's the only way.

I went into the office for an hour and a half. Fell short of my two hour goal, but it felt good. My desk chair is comfortable without a cushion and it was nice to work on dual monitors instead of the laptop and everyone was so excited to see me.

@beachgal I emailed my PT and he thinks I may have just overdone it, especially since he they added squats and side steps yesterday. I was annoyed with myself because I did great with leg lifts yesterday in PT and he told me to increase from two sets of 10 twice a day to 3 sets of ten twice a day.

I just walked today. A little further than I have at one time before. I may try my bridges tomorrow but I am really terrified to try leg lifts again.
