TKR Mireille's RTKR 4 months

Is that guilt free munching??:) I really like the recumbent bike. I found mine at a second hand sports & exercise equipment store. When I was able to use it I started with the seat all the way back and rocked. It gradually got better. It is great for stretching and loosening up the knee and can't wait to be able to use it again.

I am glad you are feeling a little more up beat. Believe me I know it is tough but luckily there are a lot of uplifting people here that keep me smiling (like your thread). My silly goal right now it trying to figure out how I can get a good pedicure with this straight leg hard brace. They all have those fancy chairs that I can't fit into (to soak the foot) and the tubs are off the ground. I am thinking a bar stool with out the beverage:)

@PegGar16 A barstool sounds like a great idea. I know how you feel about a pedi. I need one badly, lol

@KarriB or @newlybionic Hello, I'm at 8wks. Is it normal that my tkr leg has a darker color thank my other leg? Looks tanner. It's not red and the swelling is slight. Thanks!

All the time or after you've been on it for a while? My TKR would turn a purple color if I was standing for a while. At first I noticed this after showering and assumed it was from the blood flow while standing because I hadn't been standing very often. But because my TKR was in the winter I put pj pants on right away, so the color could've stayed.

I don't know. Had not really noticed until today. I will pay attention and see if there is any variance. I massage my knee and scar and it doesn't hurt or bother me, not much sensitivity.

@Mireille my new knee is darker than my other one too. I often think that the titanium is shining through but I know that's not true!! My therapist has never said anything about it and I forget to ask, however she tells me almost every visit how well my incision and knee look so I presume it's not a problem. I won't see my doctor for another 3 weeks but I have it written down to ask him about it. Perhaps it has something to do with healing. If you find an answer please post it on your thread!!

The changing color didn't hurt, it just changed while I was showering. It could've changed at other times also but I had long pants on by then and wouldn't have noticed the dark color. I had just a bit of scar sensitivity because after 2 weeks I always had very soft pant on and it touched the scar.

@Mireille, now you've given me tan leg envy! Living in the desert, I'm usually outdoors enough to maintain some summer color through the winter.... But this year, my legs are so pasty white, you literally can see through my skin!

In all honesty, I've heard of more hair, etc around surgical sites, but not a tan leg. I would think that we all get increased circulation in our leg due to all the healing, so I imagine it could be related to that. I'm curious what your OS will say, too!

On a selfish note, I'm just glad there is someone else who notices and is curious about these types of things! I've worn out my husband's welcome with "what do you think THIS is?" I think he's ready to ship me off to the Bermuda Triangle! :loll:

How u doin', other than a mysteriously tan leg?

I just looked back at your picture with the TENS machine.... I can see a little tan splotch on your shin .... But to me, that looks like the 'melasma' that I get - only I get it on my face and arms for some reason. Supposedly it can be a hormonal thing, but my guess is there are more factors involved....

@L.I.T I woke up today with me swelling on my lateral side, when is not one thing is another. The tan splotche on my shin is a birthmark, lol.

I've been noticing this tiny little spot, like a pinhead on my incision and is been nagging at me. To me it looks like a dot of pus. It's not raised or oozing anything but I'm calling my OS. Below is a pic, I don't know if you can tell.

UPDATE: Called my OS and going in this afternoon. Nurse thinks it may be a stitch trying to pop out but just in case.

@Mireille, I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you:fingersx:

I'm glad you are going in to have it checked. And i am NOT a nurse or a doctor.... But I did have 2 stitches 'spit' after my beast reduction, and that is how they looked - like a little pimple before it popped, and then a little thread would be there. But I'm glad you are going in, because it's always better to be safe.

I'm hopeful for you b/c it seems to be at the end of your Incision, and your knee is not red and Inflamed. So please let us know what they say - those things can be scary, and my heart is with you!

(LOL about the birthmark! I used to have a similar one on my leg, but it was smaller and a bit darker... Two years ago, it just up and disappeared! I felt like I lost a lifelong friend! :rotfl: Long live the birthmark!)

Ha, ha about the birthmark! I know that's not my reason! I'm going to post a pic of my knees on my thread so you can see the difference in coloration.

It is always something with a TKR!!! I too think it is a stitch. Keep us posted.

It looks like a stitch to me as well. The doctor can take care of it if is is. Glad you made the appointment.

KarriB, Jamie, RMasano - Thanks! I saw the OS and it was a stitch trying to come out. The PA squeezed it all out, pus and stitch and put some steri strips on it. Told me to she was glad I called as it needed to come out. Keeping an eye on it for redness or unusual pain but she said everything should be ok. Phew...
