TKR Mireille's RTKR 4 months

Don't know how l've missed the last page or so but reading through l'm like a little parrot saying 'yes, yes, yes' to all that you've written. Those cushions and pillows and things are a pain cluttering up the place.

I think around the 12/13 week stage l was still in pain from the soft tissues trying to adapt to a new way of walking but l was beyond the 'wish l'd never had it done, want my old knee back' stage. Now, l'm glad it's done but even though the right knee is playing up, l couldn't contemplate surgery on that for a very long time - if ever!

The only encouragement l can give is that, despite the setbacks along the way, it does get better and that you do start to feel better, almost imperceivbly but it does happen.

Green light for hugs! :console2:

Saw my OS today and had a great appointment. As he expected, my original knee was a lot worse than what the x-rays showed. He was surprised I was walking a much as I was.

He's happy with my 102 flexion, 0 extension. Considers 90 at 6 weeks a good number. Phew! My incision is healed and he's ok with PT once a week, gentle stretching and massages as long as I keep moving around at home. My new knee looks great. The pinching, clicking on the side he says it's normal, probably breaking up scar tissue. Told me it takes time. I told him, oh I know, Bonesmarties have been telling me that, lol. Overall, good visit and feel more confident. I feel better today since I ditched PT this week. :happydance::yes!::spin:

@Mireille - I'm glad your appointment with your surgeon went so well.
That's really encouraging and your OS sounds like a sensible man.

@Celle He really is sensible. I've been seeing him for 5 years and really like him. He reminded me that he had told me it would not be easy and that it would take time. I see him again in 3 months but always with an open door for questions and concerns. I expressed concerns over an MUA, scaredy cat that I am, and he said he only does those as a last resort. If there is no improvement for over 6 months he would consider it but that in most cases, the ROM comes back naturally over time. Who knew? :heehee:

Yay! So happy you got the clean bill of knee health! And even more Yay that he is good with gentle PT and just moving around the casa! Wait! What's that? Do I see a vacation in your future? :dancy:

Yay! What a relief! :yes!: Takes a load off my conspiratorial mind :chinstroke:. I know there's still a long road ahead but at least I know the joint and incision are good and that my ROM is coming along even if slowly. :walking:

Vacation is in my very near future. End of month right before I head back to the office. It'll be nice to spend time with my family. Change of scenery! :spin:

Hello everyone! My knee has been behaving as I continue to do gentle stretches, exercises and RICE. Today's question is regarding lotion or creams. My OS has confirmed my incision is fully healed so what do you recommend? I don't necessarily want something to conceal the scar, just more to use for hydrating and massaging. Thanks all!

Is your scar sensitive at all? I was massaging a simple emollient (E45) into my scar in the hope it would reduce the keloid and sensitivity. However, I stopped using it on the scar as it seemed to increase the sensitivity. The scar itself is fine without lotions, as it the skin around it. Just have a lot of keloid. When the sensitivity finally settles I will use bio oil on it. Well, that`s the plan anyway!

@Cratchit Hello! Don't really have any issues with sensitivity. I massage it a bit and it's ok. Just think it would be beget to massage with something on it. Hopefully your sensitivity will lessen soon. I'll check out that bio oil, thanks!

You can use any sort of moisturiser on your leg. You don't have to buy any special creams or lotions. Just use whatever you have at home. I did use Bio-Oil, but only because I had some left over from something else. If you're going to use anything new, do try a test patch first. I heard of someone who reacted to Bio-Oil and developed a rash all over her knee. You don't want that to happen.

I use Bio Oil but only for gentle massage. It smells lovely but I don't know if it does much good.

Thanks all! @Celle Great idea to test something new, wouldn't have thought of that!

@Spex10 I'm used to putting lotion all over so it would be soothing not to skip my knee anymore! :heehee:

My incision is not near healed but I use Aquaphor around it. Very greasy but very hydrating.

OK! That baby face is hysterical!!! I'm glad you can still smile. How is your lump? Is it a muscle knot? This whole recovery thing is a crazy trip! Hope you've had a couple of good days!

You just made me feel even better about my ROM being at 80 at 31/2 weeks post op. Especially since your OS was happy if you had only been at 90 at 6 weeks. I love getting on here every day and reading different threads. It's so inspiring and comforting.... I'm glad you're doing well!!!!
