THR Me2 and Recovery

I am home and in my own bed. Tired. Hard to ask family to do things. They don't fulfill requests anywhere as nicely as do hospital personnel. Still feel good but waiting to see how switch in pain meds go.

Ah first day at home went well. Slept all the way til almost 6 a.m. which felt great after 3 a.m. pre-surgery insomnia and in hospital waking up. I even napped an hour in morning after nurse visit and an hour in afternoon after occupational therapy visit. Both visits were exhausting and no exercise just informational and set up of future visits. Since I had late day Friday releases, they hadn't received discharge information yet. I unfortunately left myself fall asleep after therapist visit without ice and woke up with first 2.

Asking for help went much better today. I thought I could do stomach injections myself since I had done one in hospital, but had to ask son who is nurse for help. Ten more to get thru.

Almost forgot I had real real shower at home! And left TEDS off for an hour. Not sure which felt better. Though with wearing my comfy dresses, TEDS have not really been so bad. Skin reacting to elastic on TEDS and adhesives on band aids. Any suggestions would be appreciated

Pain level stayed at about 0-2 with just the once a day Celebrex. Only shadow of back pain today. Working hard on walking normal with toe pointed straight and not throwing leg out or lifting hip that are reminiscent of pre-surgery compensations. Over all great day.

@Me2 So happy things are doing better on the homefront and you got some decent sleep. I think the rest that I was able to get post op really helped me deal with the PT and the tiring process of early recovery. Hope each day gets better, small baby steps!! You've got this!!:yahoo:

I was just up and thought I'd catch up on some reading on here....WOW is all I can say about your pain and surgery!! You have had an awesome recovery so far!!! I thought I did well, but you have done unbelievably well!! I'm so happy for you, you never know what to expect, even though so many people on here tell us before surgery....we just need to listen. Keep up the great recovery work and you'll be feeling great and dancing in no time!!

Day 5 and day 6 have been lots of sleeping. When I wake up I have plenty of energy, feel great, and walk around house. Today, I visited a good bit with the parents and children in my child care business. Going with basic plan of being in the playroom with kids for an hour or two and then doing morning and afternoon nap when they do but in my own bed. The PT came late afternoon and really scolded me for doing too much and not using walker. I have been using cane and was told weight bearing as tolerated. I felt I was really listening to my body, keeping spirits up, and being patient, but she really threw me into emotional chaos to wishing I hadn't even gotten surgery. I am resting, icing, elevating but PT says still not enough and going to not have stable joint. I'm even taking my Celebrex though no pain. I have to stay motivated and keep child care business going while I recover or face financial collapse. I'm trying to keep everything balanced and felt like I was. Now ....

still having rough time dealing with PT visit yesterday. I really thought I was listening to my body and keeping caution and patience in balance with high motivation but I am losing sleep and appetite out of total irrational psychological meltdown.

At least I'm still feeling physically fantastic! Though emotional state taking its toll there too.

Hi @Me2 You are doing so well, are you doing too much?
Fruits, juices, and proteins might make you feel better, as your body needs to heal from the inside.
Keep those updates coming, as they are so helpful to everyone coming down the line.
:console2:

Think it's 'the blues' time @ Me2....it does hit you all of a sudden and undermines your confidence....please know that this is a normal part of the recovery and it will fade....so glad that physically you are doing great....take care....Chrissie xxx

Yeah I vaguely remember thread about recovery blues but couldn't find it last night and really blindsided by intensity. Waking up from afternoon nap, I feel a little better or maybe just determined too. Fun conversation here over on @Plumberbutt helped. Humor always good for soul. Thanks all. I'll spend some of my down time polishing up my chandelier. Lol.

@Me2 Polish away, never know "when the time is right"!! I don't remember really getting the blues, but I did get a nasty cold and that was enough to give me the blues....I really just slept a lot, so I probably just slept right through them. Sounds like you are doing well though and isn't it great to be home!! Keep up the good work and enjoy putting a face to the name!! Take care and glad we could make you laugh!:)

Welcome to the other side @Me2 - it seems like you had a good op and the beginnings of a decent recovery.:)
Don't ask your leg to do things.... tell it,what you, want it to do lol (Just kidding- obviously you must listen to your body and not do more than it will let you).
Look forward to hearing more.:)

I am doing much better thank you all for adding humor and hope back into recovery. Dreaming of chandeliers and swings!

Perhaps Fifty Shades of Grey was not the best choice of hospital reading! I thought it was a book about old ladies? No wonder the librarian looked at me like I was crazy!

Anyway I called early and asked for different therapist. She seemed to feel her mission to "rein me in" and I needed to stay cautious and patient and motivated. I went back to recovery timelines and really feel I am stating within. I just physically feel really good. I worked hard to be I shape for this marathon. I'll be darned if I'm going to let a therapist crush my spirits. I'm going to enjoy my recovery!

that's a great attitude @Me2 and you shouldn't let her get to you!!!

It must be nice to be home and some good rest/sleep/ naps really help

The blues do really hit....I had my day yesterday and a good cry and whinge to my BS friends has me back on track!!!

Take care

Wow..quite a choice of reading for a THR op....and chandeliers and swings....you might have to give it a few weeks until they're back in your life! Only just dusted the cobwebs off mine...ha.ha !! Xx

@Me2 Good for you, calling and requesting a different therapist sounds like the right thing to do. My OS does not order PT for THR but I do remember one therapist from my TKR, 4 years ago. The second time she came to the house I asked my husband to tell her to go away and I had a complete meltdown. He ended up telling her I was a little skittish and she did adjust her "suck it up" attitude but I never saw her again. I truly believe we have to be in tune both mentally & physically to do our best. So.......onward and upward, keep reading & polishing:)

Hey @Me2 and all,
Should I take a robe? Have two jammie pants, long t, short t, undies, sox, makeup, antibac wipes, purex.
Anything you recommend?

I wore $5 sweat pants from Target and a tshirt. They had me dress the afternoon of surgery and I just wore my clothes after that - went home 2nd day after surgery. They gave me a tshirt (in my picture - it says "I'm part bionic") and I also wore that.

@MajorHeidi never used my robe. I was comfortable in long t night shirt most of first day. When I got cold I had someone pull out a long sweater like one wears over leggings. Day 2, 3 in hospital and I wore my long warm and comfy sweater dresses with sleeve for meds/IV arm up to elbow. The teds actually feel comfortable (gasp) without other pants on--kind of like leggings. No pants or undies made wound care, getting dressed, and going to the bathroom much easier. Nurses had seen it all already but could actually keep half body covered easy enough. A long nightgown was my "evening attire". Being dressed during day helped me feel better. My sweater dress day 2 was exact same purplish color of hospital scrubs getting some double takes. They were real sticklers on treads on bottom of socks. Best wishes for you tomorrow.
