I appreciate the encouraging words! Working to stay on top of this and you all help - Debbie @Dmcfad2 so good to hear from you . . . yes, Hip Surgery, the sequel is as good as the original! :wave: Original cast and crew will be ready and waiting for me Wednesday morning.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas (Surgery)! Almost all packed except for last minute stuff and one good coffee mug!

@Me2, aka the other Sheryl

You are more than ready! Positive mantras! Just remember we are here for you and on the other side! Cake for everyone!

When you say "crazies" I wonder what you mean? I was found to be very depleted B12 level. They hung B12, potassium and magnesium on my IV. I eat really good food but way too little for too long. My surgeon recommended 1000mg of B12 following my release and I messed that up and was only taking 25mg. When I realized last week I had the 1000iu on my vitamin D confused with my B12, I changed it of course. In the meantime, I spoke with my daughter who is a R.N. ad was shocked to learn just how much B12 helps us an is not easily absorbed apparently. In hindsight, it is no wonder I still felt like I had "brain fog" from the surgery and was finding it so hard to focus on paperwork, appointment times, etc. The elderly are much more likely to suffer from the mental aspects of anesthetic but that does not mean that us 50 year olds are immune.

@Carriemay60 I brought your quote over to my thread so as not to hijack a @CanukTriMom . By "crazies," I mean serious life-threatening abnormal thinking: horrible grieving for my removed parts, waking up and at random times with overwhelming extreme fear, OCD thinking, roller coaster emotions of high euphoria quickly followed by crushing sadness in very rapid succession, along with customary inability then fear of sleeping (some normal for post surgery but I was on 2-3 hours a sleep a day for over 8 weeks). I surprisingly never felt sad or depressed so much as extreme fear of "crazy" things such as white blankets, psycho/sociopath OR staff who saw my feet. I was seriously ready to do anything to get these crazies to stop. But enough, my brain is starting to frizzle just thinking about it.

The lack of B vitamins was one of the things I thought of in my "perfect storm" of events. I was so thirsty the first week that I was drinking well over 120-200 oz. water and thought maybe many of the water soluble vitamins and minerals may have washed away along with drugs. I've never heard of the potassium and magnesium as an IV following surgery, but very much worth looking into. I do have supplements of those and B vitamins available for when I get home.

The psychiatrist I saw "diagnosed" PTSD in my four visits with her post-surgery. The therapist I've been seeing since then, first to get past the crazies then to prepare for Round 2, has really helped get and keep things in perspective. Of all the things about going for Round 2, having those "crazies" again is the absolutely scariest to me. I am so afraid that I will not survive them to enjoy my wonderful physical health.

Sorry to ramble on with TMI but once I started I needed to record so I hopefully will recognize if they even start again.

@Me2

You have done the groundwork, identified the triggers, have a great therapist who is available to you before and after surgery, are strong enough now to face the ugliness in the face should it happen. I have had OCD since I was 15 but it was not diagnosed until my twenties. I get the whole crazies issue as I suffered before being diagnosed and treated with cognitive therapy and meds. I will always be on my Meds and its fine but I faced and slayed those demons.....you can do it! Don't fear it, use the coping strategies you have learned from therapy....they work.Feel free to PM me for further discussion and support as I know some of the things I had run through my head prior to diagnosis weren't pretty!

Sending you virtual hugs

Cheryl

I suddenly realized that I don't have to wait to go to that extreme painful time of my life again. I'm not cheating, I am being smart about this.
@Me2 It's funny you should mention this but I think one of the reasons my recent THR is easier is because I did not wait until I was hobbling around. In fact I pushed the heck out of the system here to get it done ASAP. I agree 100%, you are doing the smart thing!

No more sleeps!! Today's the day and I couldnt be happier for you. Let me know what the view is like on the other side, second time around! Cant wait to get over there and join you!

Your fabulous team will be taking amazing care of you today - kick back and enjoy the ride!!

Best of luck for the op today @Me2.... Looking forward to seeing you on the recovery side! X

Feeling top of the world. So good. I did get to stay awake through whole surgery this time. Drugged but awake. And got to hold femoral head for about 45 minutes. It was in specimen container.
