May Marvelettes 2011 - Are You Having Hip Surgery In May?

Hi, so I'm counting down the days now, 10 more days:yes 4:. My nesting instinct is in full gear. Everything is in lined up and in order, except a rubber mat for the tub and some loaves of banana bread to bake. After thinking about being unable to use my recliner and couch, I went to Home Depot today and talked to a guy in lumber. He must have felt sorry for me walking in with my crutch and cut me a piece of wood, 1 1/2 inches high with a dent in it for the recliner rod. Oh my god, perfect. Then I asked him about risers for my couch and he debated with a colleague, and they cut, glued and taped wood blocks (6 x 6 inches) for me. Great. I have left over wood blocks which I will put under a side table next to my recliner and under my bed table. What else? I don't know.
I want to wish everybody good luck with surgery next week:thumb:. I'll be off to my pre op for a couple of days.

Just had my last dinner and won't be able to drink any thing but clear liquids after 1800. Getting a little nervous been anxious all day. Hope to be able to sleep tonight. Just wish this was done and overwith.

Getting ready to have my first pre-op shower with the special soap. Good luck Shawn, tomorrow we'll be on the other side! :yes 4:

Good luck Shwn! See you on the other side!

SPECIAL SOAP ?????Lou lou why special soap

Some hospitals give their patients antibacterial body wash to use pre-op. I was asked to wash with it once the night before the op and then on the morning of the op. It's all part of the extensive infection control in hospitals.

Good Luck Shwn and LouLou! Your surgery will be over before you know it and you'll be in recovery amazed at how easy it was! Hope to see you soon on the other side.

Good luck to anyone else that is scheduled for surgery this week.

Good morning !! Well had my pre. op. Monday the 9th and all went well ?? My date for surgery is May 20th, I am a little worried I had caught a little head cold about the 12th or 13th of May, I took no over the counter meds for the cold, Am feeling good this morning so maybe everythng well be Ok, I well tell them about the cold when they call on the 18th to give me a check in time for surgery, I do feel good this morning so well see, do others think i'll make my surgery date or well it be moved back ??? Grandpa

Hi Grandpa, I can't tell you how many members experience this same issue just pre-op. All the nerves and not sleeping well sometimes takes its toll.

The good news is if you don't have fever you are probably good to go! If you are feeling good now I see no reason why you won't be on your way on May 20th.

Please let us know what they say.

Thanks Jaycey for the encouragement and your thought's, I had'nt thought about having a temp or not, I haven't one with this as of today so that is encouraging, you would think that having one hip done I would not be so worried about things going into this one, I had no problems with my first one at all. Thanks again for your time. Grandpa

Hiya Grandpa, I am the day before you on the 19th Goodluck. We will have a natter (chat) next week when we get out. Linda

thelandlady I will surely do just that, I do want to wish you all the best on the 19th and will be looking forward to hearing all about with this chat!! Grandpa

Hi Grandpa,

I came down with a slight cold and sore throat just a few days before my surgery. My OS said as long as there is no runny nose or fever the surgery can proceed. I had the op and all went well. Good luck with your surgery!

Thankyou JennyAWX for for sharing you experiences with me!! I am feeling good this morning, needed a little bit of clearing out my sinuses this early AM but thats all, Thanks so much for the encouragement and well wishes !! Grandpa

Good for you LouLou, so happy that everything went well for you!

My husband had his pre-surgery hospital orientation last week. It was helpful in some ways, but we were disappointed to learn that he couldn't wear an MP3 player/phones in the OR. (The anesthetist said too many infection concerns).

Was given his Hibiclens soap, so it all felt so much more like a reality!!

He's been listening to a guided imagery CD especially designed for pre-surgery. I'm hoping it helps him. His biggest fear about the whole thing is not waking up after the operation.

Just a few days now!

His biggest fear about the whole thing is not waking up after the operation.

Is he having a spinal or GA? If he has a spinal he will be awake the minute they wheel him out of OR!

Let staff know about his worries when he arrives on the day. They understand all the concerns and will help him deal with it all.

Please tell him not to worry!
