May Marvelettes 2011 - Are You Having Hip Surgery In May?

Is he having a spinal or GA?

He's having a GA, and that's the root of his fears, he's asleep and has been drilled with the "risks of surgery" statements and paperwork to sign for the medical personnel/hospital. Most warnings are centered around the GA.:cry4:

Has he considered a spinal. They are so much easier to recover from!

Josephine:
That was an incredibly helpful statement and link. Thank you so much!

Tomorrow is the big day, I think we are all set in terms "what to take". We plan on having a really nice meal tonight (some of his favourite things - no wine unfortunately:sigh:).
This morning we're going to the OS office to meet with his Physician Assistant for last minute check-ups, info etc.

I'm feeling very calm (which seems weird, but I guess I'm not the one on the table!). I just have supreme confidence in his medical team, and hope that once recovered his pain will finally be gone.:yay:

I am sure he will do just fine.

Please tell your husband he will have company in OR. His BoneSmart family will be there in spirit.

We will look forward to your update when he is on the other side!

Thanks for your well wishes Jaycey and all. It's wonderful to know that BoneSmart is there.
My husband said he actually felt excited this evening! We're so looking forward to about 2 months from now, LOL. I know he'll be back to being my (relatively) pain free and mobile boy.

I'll let you all know how he did "on the other side", as soon as I have access to a computer. I will be staying at the hospital with him for a couple of nights.

Take care all.

Boy, it sounds like you both are ready!!!

Good luck and we'll be waiting to hear how things went.

Surgery went great yesterday. Poor OS came out to tell me how it went, looking really whooped! Apparently my husband has such strong muscles (the ex-jock in him, I guess) it made for hard work. The doc had to get changed before he came to meet me!
He said that though it was hard, it was well worth working his butt off, because he's very pleased with the how it all looked.
My husband had immense pain upon recovery, and had his pain meds ramped up, finally taking the highest dose of Dilaudid. The PCA was a godsend, because once the pain reached a manageable level, he was able to keep on top of it. Yay.:yay:
Thanks for all your well wishes, and good luck to all May marvelettes and those schedules ahead.

So glad all went well JS. Please do keep us updated and let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

Yes, surgeons often do get totally pooped doing hips, specially if the patient is large and/or solid!
Trouble is, unlike ordinary 'carpentry' jobs, they can't do half the job today and the rest tomorrow! :snork:

LOL Josephine!
The Physician's Assistant came in today and told us the same thing the OS said. He said that they took a long time to adjust the Hano table to fit my 6'8" guy, and to position him just right. He joked that the surgeon had to sit on his shoulders to perform the op and they were both worn out at the end. He still had 3 more surgeries to perform after that!
He deserves at least a bottle of wine from us!:cheers_wine:

Josephine, you're right - I need to get him something else as well. I need to think about just what to get. Hmmmm what to get????
JS

Bottle of whisky? Champagne? A really good wine meaning one where the price makes you wince? :wink1:

You might ask his secretary where he golfs and purchase a round of golf for him at the club.
