Carol I was wondering how you are doing. Sorry to hear about you still having problems. When you hip clinging does it hurt? Because it may be nothing. I am also on pain medication. Don't like it but would be so much worse if I wasn't. Some of us just take a lot longer than most. I celebrate my knee replacement next month. So good to hear from you please don't be a stranger. Stay safe my friend. Tashia

Carol,
Good to hear from you, but sad to hear you do not have better news. Getting a second opinion was the best thing I did. I hope your second opinion be able to find the answer to your problems.
Post when you have a chance.:friends:

It's nice to see you again, but I'm sorry you're still having problems with that hip. I'm glad you're seeing a different OS. Keep us posted, okay?

Hi Carol, so pleased to hear from you, so sad that all is not well.. I have missed your wonderful sense of humor and long posts.. Stick with us honey.. We are here for you :)

Oh Carol Mad Rocker I am so sorry to hear you are still have pain with that hip. I agree a second opinion is needed. Hang in there my friend. You just need to find the right OS partner to work through all this. Don't be a stranger OK?

Hello Mad Rocker,
I just read through your entire thread. Just stopping by to tell you that you are not alone. I am almost 18 months post THR and I am far worse than before my surgery. I have had all scans, blood tests and tests come back normal. I even went to Mayo for a second opinion and they ran me through X-rays, MRIs, EMGs, blood tests and nothing is showing up and all looks good. I live in constant pain. I will keep popping in on your thread. I want a way back machine like in the old Professor Peabody cartoon and wish I could have a do over. My problems are very different from yours but pain and disappointment are the same. Am hoping your appointment in June gives you some answers.

Hi Carol,

Sorry you are not feeling better and that your OS wasn't more helpful, or at least able to figure something out about your situation.

I hope the June 12th appointment with the new OS will give you some answers and support.

Take care,
Cardie

66 Weeks POP

Hello

I saw my GP today and left there in a terrible state. He has diagnosed me with hyperalgesia. Apparently its one of the side effects of morphine usage with the increase in dosage in morphine comes an increase in pain and uber sensitivity to pain in other areas than the original problem. Like you started morphine for your hip and now you can’t wear pants because the pressure on your leg puts you into agony.

Problem is I do not have any of the symptoms. I just asked him for one more pill a day that is 15 mg more because I am working pretty hard in rehab. I don’t get things at all. Why don’t people listen? I am not an addict. He is a GP. He had one patient who had this condition and now I automatically have it. So I will have to continue with my dosage (45mg twice a day) and take a bunch of Tylenol (paracetamol) and keep my fingers crossed. My GP also figured that I would not get any more information from the new OS as to what is causing all my pain.

I am now thoroughly discouraged. I try to remember that this will heal with time I am just not sure if I have the courage to see this to the end.

Take Care Everyone

Sorry your GP is not listening, so frustrating!:hairpulling:
See the new OS for a second opinion, everyone has a different view and he may be able to add something about what is going on with your hip.
Sending postive healing thoughts your way,

Head down and full speed ahead Carol! Sounds like getting that second opinion is the most important factor now. You can do it! Just take it one day at a time. If that's too much, one minute at a time. Please keep us updated! Sending you positive (((((((((((((((vibes)))))))))))))))!

I wish I could hug you. You have been through so much. Take a day at a time like Jaycey said. I still have those days but not much. I t will get better. We are going to make it. Just believe it. Take care my Friend. Tashia

Mad Rocker, I do hope that you are feeling better. So sorry you had to go through all of that. Rest and take it easy

Hi Carol,

Just reading thru a few of the last pages of your thread... I can't remember if anyone ever referred you to someone that specializes in chronic pain issues? One of the things that I asked my OS, when it was apparent that they didn't know what to do to help me when I wasn't the typical recovery after THR, was who do you suggest people see when they have on-going issues after THR. I was referred to a medical practice that has non-surgical specialists. They do a variety of types of injections and look more deeply into pain issues from a more global standpoint vs. the just a hip patient view.

Secondly, at some point I was offered medication like Lyrica or neurontin/gabapentin. These medications as well as Cymbalta are sometimes used to help with chronic regional pain syndrome. If there is concern for your morphine usage/dosage then you need the support of someone that has more dedicated experience with medications that might be more helpful in a different way and it doesn't sound like your GP is that person.

Lastly, are you still doing any acupuncture? You'd mentioned it and seeing an osteopath at one point. Just wondering if either of these therapies were or would be helpful again...

Good luck on June 12th with the new OS -- you could also ask him for referral types of information as well.
Take care,
Cardie

Madrocker, I just came by to say HI. I hope this finds that you are having a good day. Take care my very good friend. Tashia

Mad Rocker, I was on the site and saw your name and wonder how you were doing. I do miss hearing from you. Know that I care and do take care. Take care my friend, Tashia

You Hoo.... Carol, need another update :)

Carol, I feel so bad for you and your situation. I wrote a reply under my 2nd hip replacement thread that has some info for you. Check it out.

About the general medication issue you are going through, you may need to see a pain management MD and have them take over your med administration. Most regular MDs are scared to death of the heavy duty pain meds--pain management MDs work with this all the time and I find they are much less judgmental about this.

But, the bottom line is you need to find an ortho who will fully investigate and repair what is causing your pain in the first place. You state that you are working hard in rehab ... you may be overworking damaged tendons/muscles and that may be making things worse. If something is damaged badly, it doesn't function the way healthy tissue would and CAN'T do what you are asking it to do. No amount of rehab will make something your body can't heal, heal.

Thinking of you ...

Dorothy
