Dearest Carol,

Don't give up...hang in there. We are here for you:friends: and just keep doing the next thing until you get to the bottom of this. It is frustrating but you are worth it! Love and hugs to you honey, keep us posted.

Carol,
Sorry to hear you are still having so many problems, at least they are doing something with the bone scan, even if it shows nothing. Keep us posted on your results, and how you are doing. No place better to have a pity party than Bonesmart.:friends:
I tore tendons in my foot 3 weeks after surgery and they still are bothering me at times over a year later. Soft tissue takes a long time to heal. :console2:

Carol, I don't know. I guess with my GP. With the HMO I belong to I would go to customer assistance to see what they had to say. Depending on how much it would cost me, I would go out the HMO. Boy that is a good question. I hope you find the answer. Take care my friend. Tashia

See your GP Carol. Tell him you want to see someone in a totally different area - not connected in any way to your current OS. Please do keep us updated!

How does your medical insurance work in Canada--do you have to go through your GP for any specialist referrals?

I wouldn't ask your OS for a referral to another OS--they will probably just refer you to someone they work with or know very well. This person could be much the same as the one you see now. You want someone who can offer a fresh perspective and who won't have any ties to your OS in case they have a differing opinion.

Can you just research it and set up an appointment with one on your own? That's how I've found my best medical people.

Dorothy

I agree, your GP is best. Also check out OS's on the internet, you can run them by your GP.
All the best in your search for answers.

New OS, different view of your pain and issues Carol... Can't wait to hear how you go.. You deserve a break :)

Hugs

Week 40 POP

I have been up since 1:37am. Did I ever tell you I hate digital clocks?

I see my OS 9:00 tomorrow morning. I get the results of my bone scan. I'm not expecting anything negative or I would have been called earlier but regardless I have my script all written out for requesting an MRI.

My therapist (I don't know if I mentioned I am suffering from mild depression now) reminds me that my OS works for me and if he refuses to help me then it's time for a second opinion. I just figured I could get all the tests done quicker than starting with a new OS.

I also see my therapist tomorrow so if I have any issues after talking to the OS I can fall apart  in the therapist's office.

I hate this. It's over 9 months POP and I don't feel that Boy do I feel better since my surgery :happydance: moment that everyone said I would have.

Then to add insult to the injury my son's SO has leukemia. I am so worried about both of them as they are 3000 miles away. Sometimes life sucks!:sos:

I don't sleep and I don't make any sense when I talk and my writing has gone to heck. Good thing the sun shone today or nothing would have gone right.

Take care and be comfortable

Love,

Hi Carol! Please let us know how things go at your appointment. And so sorry about your son's SO. Life....oh, sometimes.....

Sounds like you have a plan and glad you will seek a 2nd opinion if you need one., I wish you would get one no matter what....Sending healing vibes and caring...

Hi Diane

So nice to hear from you. The more I think of it the more I am convinced that a second opinion is really necessary for my mental health. It's been so long since I had a healthy mental so I thought I would treat myself. :)

I'll let you know how I make out. Right now I'm just crossing my fingers that I don't have to do battle with my OS ( I hate confrontation) but I need to be my own advocate so here goes nothing.

Carol,
Good luck at your appointment tomorrow, glad you have the appointment with the therapist. A second opinion sounds like a good idea.
Sorry to hear about your sons SO, I wish them both the best.
Take good care, I know you are ready for tomorrow.

You are a strong woman Carol, go into your surgeons room and say - this is what I want, an MRI!

If he indicates no, tell him you would like his reason in writing before you leave.

Go to it oh strong Mad Rocker xxxx

Love, hugs & prayers winging your way from down under

Good luck Carol, I hope it all goes well at your appt

Take care

Ann.x.

Its been awhile how are you doing. What happen to the second opion? I do fight depression and it really can be a dower. I'm so sorry about your sons overwhelming problem. Life can really be ruff at times but life does go on and we do make it. Please keep in touch. I mess hearing from you. Tashia :friends:

Hi Carol,

Just wondering if you were able to get any answers from your bone scan and if you got the MRI script you were hoping for. I hope this message finds you feeling a bit better. We'd like to hear an update from you if you are feeling up to it.

Take care,
Cardie

Carol.. I am sorry to read your story. Its heartbreaking. I do have a suggestion. I have a complex hip background and over the years had several differing consults. When I decided I couldn't live with the pain any longer my GP put my name on the wait list at my local hospital's hip replacement clinic. I couldn't choose my OS. After 3 months I had still not heard anything so I decided to go to the Cambie Clinic in Vancouver, one of Canada's first private medical clinics for those who don't know. I selected an OS off the list of consultants, checked him out and paid $500 to see him two weeks later. I am absolutely thrilled with this guy. I have written a lot about orthopedics over the years and know that surgeons in this field are not all great communicators, they are just in too much demand. I wanted someone who would listen and fill me with confidence about managing the existing hardware in my femur. He was confident he could handle it, agreed to take my case and put me on his wait list at another Vancouver are hospital. (We can't get THR done privately here in Canada.) Anyhow, if you decide to see another OS, check him out first on ratemd.com. I've found those reviews to be spot on.

Carol,
Let us know how you are doing when you get a chance, wishing you a better New Year!

Carol You were are my mind today so I am checking to see if you are ok. Hows your son? I know things are really ruff for a while, I do hope it has gotton better. Please don't be a stranger. Take care. Tashia

65 weeks POP

Hello Everyone

Long time to write…

I would love to say that there has been improvement in my situation but that is not the case.

I am still in pain, on morphine and still going to rehab (that is one year now.)

I really do not have much to say. I find this is just way too frustrating and depressing to think about. I was discharged by my OS end of October. He told me there is nothing wrong and he can do nothing for me. End of story…

I am continuing managing my own care.

I did mange to get a referral for a second opinion 12 June, which is great because my hip started clunking yesterday.

I hope that things are going well for everyone.

Take care
