Interesting UK statistics!
CRPS affects about 1 in 4,000 people each year. Trust you.
Lisfranc fracture affects about 1 in 50,000 each year. Trust me.

Total Hip Replacements 99,822 in 2014
Total Knee Replacements 104,590 in 2014

Prevention of CRPS
I have been looking up research re prevention of CRPS, prompted by some crazy electric type of shocks from my ankle up wards. This is not CRPS but if there is any prevention I want to know. The only proven thing is 500mg of Vit C for prevention which I am already taking because you mentioned it @Legin so THANK YOU

Is this relevant to you @Nana moon 27 ?

I'm still unsure whether or not I have mild RSD. The OS has written saying he thinks I have this. I'm trying to keep active but listen to my body. I've reduced my painkillers this week and the pain level is no different. I'm reducing them again next week. I need to see how much pain I'm in. Until I get a formal diagnosis I cannot say if I have this condition.

Your research is a brilliant idea. I'm hoping all this fruit and veg I've started eating will provide me with enough Vit c. The knee really hates being knocked even gently. Those figures were very interesting @copsham. CRPS is more common than I had realised xx

I still am surprised an orthopedic surgeon says this. Please get a referral to chronic pain clinic. Did your surgeon make skin comparisons incl hair. Also texture and the finite touch test.

Nope none of that @Legin, this is why I have my doubts. He did look closely at it. However the physio has looked at my scar only the other day and said how well it's healing. Ok I jumped off the couch almost when he squeezed around the knee either side as there and the are just above my knee manifests the bad pain x

I wouldn't wish CRPS on any one but if it turns out to be Ann as well, you two will make great CRPS buddies! But from what I have read there are real diagnostic features that have to be met to make a diagnosis?

Yup its well laid out.
A busy weekend, I filled the wheelie bin with weeds and the odd triffid. Then decided I had better check out my mode of transport for work in the coming week. Sheeeeesh I did about five miles and those hills of everest comparisons, well a wee incline. Problem is I'm.basically powering it with one leg as the other foot is strapped onto pedal but the ows from pressure. But its good to work the whole joint as it often feels stiff as my walking method ie not putting toes on ground.
Second day of training for the CAB today.
#CRPS

You may think all triffids are gone and its then when they get you, my pal Dr Who agrees.
Great day training and with a wee problem on transport I must have stood for three hours in total. Got back was pooped, foot was large and a funny colour but I didn't care.
Mirror therapy now is constantly look in at reflected image of good foot. Well as many times as I can. But with a wee wriggle applied to foot. I find it takes virtually no time to get into the oh look I have two ggod feet mode.

Hi @Legin,
It's been too long since I contacted you, I'm not on here very often these days.
Well done you on the bike, you are so positive all the time, you deserve to do well, and I do hope that the second hip is replaced without all the fuss that the first one made.
Apologies for even thinking I was 'up North', I realise now that I am nowhere near:heehee:, but the fact that the friends I'm staying with (near to Macclesfield) even had to light a fire last night (in July?) made me feel that I must be somewhere near to the Arctic Circle.
Wishing you all the best, Lyn xx

Thanks pal. I was only jestering. Hmmmm a fire in July hmmmmmm must be some pagan thing, these southerners can be a funny lot. Yourself excluded of course.

@Legin so glad you had a great training day! You may borrow my husband's monkey toes for your toe wriggling mirror exercise! Your brain is doing its adaptive thing, letting you know you have two good feet!
Ok smartypants, I am up to Tom Baker in old Doctor role, and David Tennant, who obviously studied Baker's performances VERY carefully, in new show. ;)

@Legin - standing 3 hours in total waiting for busses, no wonder you were exhausted! That's amazing that you've got the mirror therapy to work, how long can you make it last when you move away from the mirror?

Hi all, I just did my first day at new job. The chap I care for is fine. Had him singing and I found he responds to smiles and thumbs up. Anyway second session tonight. Oh his 82 yr old wife fair chortled at me boogiehoovering. This is work..........
Wifff was worried about everything but most of all about me riding the bike back. So I walked. Steps total just under six thousand which is two miles, have to fess up tho I did say to her I may get the bus.
Tired and sore but guess what, this is so good for me in every way. So to those who have complications after surgery you do get back to many parts of normal life. For me its keep working on the bits that still need attention.

Oh @Legin I feel for the man with dementia and his wife how lucky they are to have your help. You will do them wonders. There is a lovely book by Oliver James called Contented Dementia, which helped me when my mother went downhill with dementia. My mother asks me how my baby is. I used to correct her and tell her my son is grown up. Now I say he is fine and we have a conversation about "the baby" which is much more satisfying for her.

I agree with you about the importance of getting back to some aspects of normal life. I looked after my grandson yesterday even though I can't weight bear and it was extra rewarding (as well as exhausting). Aged 4 he said "when I grow up I am going to have a crutch and a green plaster cast and I am going to break my leg every day" !!! All exciting when you are four. He told me off for not elevating my leg saying " I've told you before ... " "Now don't do it again"

My hip had a wobble this morning, decided to hurt me a bit but I am looking after it now and hoping it will go soon.

I love hearing about your work @Legin. Keep us posted.

Ty as I said and this is working...
I think I have heard of the book will check later. You are so right what many people don't understand is that for these people that part of the brain is gone. No regrowth, no that function can just use a diff part of the brain. Soooo as say put your self in there shoes. You ask someone when will my mother get back? Now to you you remember seeing her not long ago as short term memory is gone therefore you are using facts from the long term. The person tells you your mother is dead. Your response would be??????? So if you don't want to cause emotional pain dip into their memories with them, you know what its actually fun.

@Legin the walking may not have been the best experience, but you and these lovely folks are going to have a blast, that's very clear! Hope you chose the bus for your second session! :)
