Kylesh You are doing well at 6 weeks Do you live in St Louis ? My daughter spent a year there studying for her degree in 2001/2002 It was a student exchange. She had a great time It was very cold in the winter but red hot in the summer unlike our climate It is pouring down today with floods expected.

You got it, Kylesh! I keep reminding myself to keep a sense of perspective; these weeks or even month of healing will prepare us for a good long time of doing the things we love! (Or at least that's the plan, right? :yay: )
We visited St Louis once. Did the arch, and the science museum. We were visiting friends in Alton, Ill. We had a wonderful time in that area!

Kim22 -- I live about 30 miles from Saint Louis in Illinois. Yes, cold in winter and hot is summer pretty much describes the weather. What school did she attend? I graduated from Webster University.

Songlady - I like the plan :dancy: I must say that this area has lots to offer. Next time you are here you will have to try the city by bike. They have some great bike paths here and where you cant ride, you can hope the metro with your bike. For a nice day trip I like to take the metro over to Forest Park, ride the park taking in the art and history museum and then eating lunch with the animals at the zoo.

I see that you are from Connecticut -- I hope that you are not affected by the train accident. Prayers to all those injured.

Hi Kylesh -
First, re kayaks- usually in summer we spend some days at a vacation place owned by a friend in Camden, Maine. She has two small, one-person kayaks - a "sit on top" ocean kayak and one that you have to get into. I usually take the sit-upon one because of my limited ROM. It's great fun. I started kayaking by taking a 2 hour "outdoor adventure course" at LL Bean, in which they drove us to Freeport Harbor and let us use all their nifty equipment (life vests, kayaks, shoes, paddles) to paddle around. Wow!

We are right near where the train wreck happened. A lot of people we know take the trains every day; my husband did for 25 years, until his job was eliminated in December. So far everyone we've talked to, our neighbors and friends, were on later trains - so they were very late in arriving home, and had to be picked up in towns 20 miles away, but were safe. Like you, I'm definitely keeping all those affected in my prayers!

Hi Kylesh I have my daughter and grandson with me this week she tells me she was 200 miles from St Louis at Mizzou ( University of Missouri / Columbia ) we were not able to visit her during the year she was there I thought it was closer to St Louis. Her main university was Lancaster in the UK and they had a reciprocal arrangement with a few universities in the US for exchanges As parents it was difficult as she was only there for a few weeks when 9/11 happened and she was only 19.

Hippie is getting a new portrait today. Will be interesting to see.

Kim22 -- Hope you are having a wonderful visit with your family. I can image having her so far from home during 9/11 was difficult.

Songlady -- Glad to hear that you are okay. A few days in Maine sounds wonderful. My husbands uncle lived there for a time and always invited us to visit, but we never had a chance and now he has moved. My husband and I are always joking that we need to take a vacation for fun that does not involve going to visit his family or mine. We are from different states and normally when we have time off we are either traveling to PA or FL to see family.

Hi Kylesh - we've been to Maine so much (every year since our honeymoon almost 32 years ago) that both our sons consider it a part of their home base. In fact, our older son lives there now, so part of the reason we'd go up would be to see him. (Our younger son moved back home from there a few months ago.)
Otherwise, our summer vacation trips are to North Carolina to see family. But we love the area and enjoy being there. PA and FL can also be fun places, so I hope your family trips include some time to enjoy the areas!

Songlady -- We always enjoyed our time with family, but mostly when we would go home we would try to do things that our parents could not do for themselves anymore. We will get a chance to vacation when the time is right. Of course, my idea of a vacation involves a tent and lovely trails and or water ...hmm maybe that is why he always takes me to the family.....lol

:yay: I had my follow-up with my OS today. Everything looks great, was surprised to see the screw on the x-ray, but he said that is common. I made sure to tell him thank you for listening and helping me. I had been fighting with other doctors and insurance for over a year, but getting no where.

I will start outpatient PT on Friday for the next six weeks and unless I have any problems, I do not need to see him for a whole year. Of course I still have the posterior approach precautions but he approved my to take a kayak trip on 29 Jun a few days before they expire. The only bummer is I am still not allowed to drive my car until the 90 days are up because it has a manual transmission. Guess I will have to steal hubby's vehicle for a while. Poor guy he had been through a lot with all this. I know there is no way I could get through all this without him.

Hi Kylesh Great report from your visit to see the O S and I am really pleased that you are OK to kayak next month Well done

Kim22 -- I am very pleased that the visit went well. Of course, it is wee early in the AM where I live and the hip has decided to it wanted to be up. The muscles have decided to have a few spasms -- all part of the healing.

Kylesh Very good report from your 6 week check up! Good for you. You'll be one happy kayaker come June 29th.:egypdance:

Oh the water is so sparkling blue -- look how the sun is shimmering on the water, almost like a million little diamonds. It is going to be a great day for a little paddling. I
Kylesh I just read your little fantasia for ByGosh on her thread, and I have to tell you, it made my eyes leak. It is so beautiful. What a gift you have given everybody who read that! Thank you thank you! :) *ZF adds her yellow kayak to the group* :)

It was beautiful, really. I felt like I was in my favorite lake up in Vermont, kayaking Kylesh and zauberflöte. So now we have red, blue and yellow kayaks. How colorful, and the more the merrier - I can picture it now....ahhhhhhh......
Wait! zauberflöte is making me laugh so hard, I might fall in! But that's ok, the sun is shining and the water is nice and refreshing.....so it's all good.....everything is just grand.....:) Isn't it?
