Nannyannie -- Oooow...at trip to France and Belgium, when are you going to pick me up? I took a quick tourist trip to both countries back in the early 90s when I was stationed in Germany.

What's wrong with the kayak one the Fiat :) -- you should see the looks I get when I have my bikes on the back :umm:guess it is sort of funny since the bikes are as wide as the car.

Kylesh cute pic! When the kids were young, I used to take them and a cousin or friend on vacation early, and hubby would join us. We'd drive up the road in our venerable Volvo 240 wagon loaded to the gills with kids and their stuff, enormous soft-pack and kayak on top, and 4 bikes on the back. Looked like the Beverly Hillbillies!

zauberflöte -- I bet you got a lot of double takes with a kayak and 4 bikes :) I will let you know if I manage to get both on my Fiat. Think I am going to be stuck with and either or situation.

Can't wait for photos.. Have fun

Hi everyone...excuse me while I brush the dust off my thread :) It has been a while since I was here, I have been hanging out on ByGosh 's porch ease dropping on the plans for the wonderful upcoming cruise. Wonder if I need to pack my referee uniform since zauberflöte is also going and well we don't need a repeat of the kayak trip...:egypdance:

Wednesday will be 19 weeks since I met my new hip and so far we are getting along very well. I still have a limp, or as I prefer to call it a wonky walk (so termed by my physical therapist) and my knee has been giving me problems, but I am focusing on getting back to the things I want to do. I will say that the ibuprofen/Tylenol combo from this site has been a lifesaver most days.

We have been blessed with a unusual wonderful summer, minus the little flood a few weeks ago. Never a good thing when your town is featured on the Weather Channel. The weather here has been exceptional with temperatures around 80 degrees (~ 26C) with low humidity versus the normal 90-100 plus high oppressive humidity. I have been making the best of being furloughed one day a week by going biking and kayaking. My longest bike ride was 33 miles, I didn't start out to go that far, but let just leave it as hubby is directionally challenged :)

Oh...BTW -- I also took a Zipline tour, nine lines ranging from 300 to 2000 feet and 50 to 250 feet high -- it was a blast. I was worried about the landings but the place was great. I told them about my hip and the guy at the end of each line made sure that my right foot was down and stopped me just short of the platform so I could would have a soft touch instead of hard landing.

See you all on the porch...looking forward to the cruise.

Kylesh You and your new hip sound wonderful together - like a match made in THR heaven! I'm so glad that you're able to be as active as you are. I know how much you love the outdoors and your biking and kayaking. The furlough days are sure being put to good use! :)
The weather sounds like it's cooperating nicely and just ideal for outdoor activity, too.

I must confess, though, that I'm not familiar with the Zipline that you're talking about, as I'm imagining you hanging by your arms and soaring on a wire over canyons...That's a bit too much for me to entertain, even in my fantasy travels! I'll have to look that one up or I'll be worrying about you too much, Kylesh. I'm sure it's safe and the fellow at the receiving end sounds like he was very careful and accommodating to you, thank goodness.

33 miles on your bike, too! Way to go - But I guess that's what happens when hubby is your compass. He sounds like he rivals my husband with that sense of direction gene in sparse supply! I'm sure you loved every minute of it, though..

That's a fantastic update Kylesh. It's good that you can get on with doing things that are enjoyable to you, and not let your 'sexy wiggle' or you pesky knee hold you back. You're a brave and determined girl and you're taking it all in stride with a great attitude. Good for you.

By the way, Kylesh - Our good friend, zauberflöte doesn't seem to be getting into too much trouble lately, at least not over on the GoshPorch. So no need for the referee shirt, at least not at the moment. Now for the cruise.....that we'll have to wait and see about...:)

Kylesh OMG, YOU DID THIS? I'm having heart failure right now. You are brave, hip or no hip replacement!

Not for the faint of heart! Since I hate heights there is no WAY I could do that! Well done Kylesh - you are a brave lady!

You and your new hip sound wonderful together - like a match made in THR heaven

ByGosh I have to agree although at first I was not sure we were meant for each other. I hope and pray that you will soon find some relief and you too will soon be able to enjoy all of your passions. As I have said before you have faced this with more grace and compassion for others then I could ever image. You are truly an inspiration for those still having issues.

I'm imagining you hanging by your arms and soaring on a wire over canyons...

Pretty close -- only we zipped through the woods, no canyons :tada:

You are truly an inspiration
Kylesh You're much too kind. Really. I'm doing my best not to get completely swallowed up by this - although I have to admit that it's getting harder and harder. The days and the weeks drag on and on, and still no improvement..I just don't understand what's happened to me, what went wrong, and why no one can find out. I'm running out of steam here -at least if I were improving, no matter how slight, I could remain more hopeful, but I feel I'm getting worse. I can't help but wonder if tendonitis could really be this severe? I just don't know what the answer is, or if I'll even find an answer!

Well, enough of that! No sense wallowing in misery, it's not going to do me any good. I have to keep trying to figure this out, keep talking to doctors, keep persisting and not give up.

I hope you have a nice week ahead and your furlough day is a great one, with good weather so you can enjoy yourself! Take care Kylesh. Didn't mean to burden you, but I know you understand. :friends:

I totally promise to be a very very good girl for a long long time:heehee:

Kylesh we had a zipline for the kids when they were in grade school. Between two trees, and they stood on a squatty stump to take off. I don't think I could get on one of those high ones:shocked:

Your 19 week update sounds very good! 33 miles on the bike, how on earth did you do that? You inspire me! :)

ByGosh never a burden.. I am always willing to listen...:)

zauberflöte I managed to do 33 miles because I allowed my husband to convience me that I was going in the wrong direction. It was a long quiet ride home once we reached the car:dancy:

Sorry hard time on the forum this morning had to take my laptop to the Geeksquad yesterday. Using a tablet I am not used to......

Kylesh, great update. You are active and back to doing what you like to do. Weather in Southern Illinois has been mild. I am thinking about a road trip down to that area and then over to Nashville and then up to Kentucky before coming back home. I am not a fan of hot weather so maybe this is a good summer to do that.

sandybeach It has been wonderful. In fact it is only going to be 80 on Thursday and Friday..not bad for August.

Kylesh, great update... You are a success story for sure :)

Kylesh October in Georgia can be absolutely gorgeous! Take it easy with the whirlwind packing, though-- don't want to overdo it! Is that a quarry you're kayaking in, in your new avatar? (You might run into my brother kayaking, he's just taking it up with his youngest)

Poppet With regard to the hip, I have to agree. I would be amiss if I did not say a big thank you to the administrators and of course my hippy friends on this forum. Now all I have to get the knee to stop acting up and I will be all set. My MRI list chondrosis of the lateral trochlea. Waiting on the doc to call to explain this in plain English and tell me how to deal with it. I am going to go broke buying ibuprofen, Tylenol and chemical icepacks....lol

zauberflöte. Yes there is a lot to do, but we are pretty experienced with moving, but I will admit that it doesn't stop the last minute rush. My new picture is from Cedar Lake last weekend. That is a natural bluff, the lake was created by damning up cedar creek.

Tell your brother welcome and there is some great places to kayak in Southern IL...come on over

Great update. I can not imagine doing the zip line but my kids do it at various places. I was very sorry to read that the flooded town I saw on TV was yours! Hope your new location in Georgia does not make it onto the news.

LeeApril26 There has been so much flooding lately, the one on the TV could have been from anywhere. We were very fortunate, we have an easement behind the house and we were holding our breath and while it came close, it did not breech the wall, others we not so lucky. Funny you would mention Georgia, they have had so much rain this summer that almost every time it rains lately the roads flood. On the bright side, have kayak will travel :)
