THR Kylesh is Kayaking Again

Kylesh, Too bad you don't have a picture from the zipline. I know that the BoneSmart administrators would love to have it for their "Amazing Recoveries" series of photos and videos! Also, I have to credit you with one of the funniest lines I've ever read: "Never a good thing when your town is featured on The Weather Channel."

What kind of work do you do, Kylesh? Your mention of the furlough made me think you were hit by the sequester, not to mention the sudden move to Georgia. Hope that everything goes well, and that you LOVE your new home, town, and job.

BeckyR I love you avatar, words that are truly needed during the recovery process. As for pictures, I do have some, I will have to look at them and see if there are any worth posting. After all they were taken by my DH, you know the same one that turned our short bike ride into a 33 mile outing :)

Yes, I was hit by sequestration, so I decided to make the best of it by going out biking and kayaking. We have some wonderful bike trails and lakes around here. Since we already owned the stuff, it was a pretty low cost way to spend the day.

I work for the Air Force as process improvement facilitator -- fancy term for data slayer (Six-Sigma, Lean). My job is going and instead of bumping some one with less seniority out of a job, I found the one in Georgia and ask for it instead. Puts me closer to my family in Florida (native Floridian). I was suppose to move in July, but that got delayed because of sequestration. So it really is not that sudden.

Hi Kylesh... I don't know a great deal about knees, but I do understand that the word "chondrosis" means "softening or loss of smooth cartilage" I am going to tag Josephine to comment on post #98 for you :)

chondrosis of the lateral trochlea
The trochlea is the grove where the kneecap rides on the femur (thigh bone) and lateral means on the outer side. This means you have an early form of arthritis between that and the knee cap.
Waiting on the doc to call to explain this in plain English and tell me how to deal with it
'Dealing with it' in the early stages just means what you have been doing. It's probably going to get worse but in what time, God only knows! My surgeon told me he was prepare to do my knee in October of last year and he's still waiting for me to phone him! OTC meds might be good for taking the edge off things for a while.
I am going to go broke .... chemical ice packs
Then get a couple of gel packs and keep them in the freezer! They stay cold a lot longer than chemical ones anyway!

I am so glad your easement held. Last year we lost our entire driveway in flooding. Our cabin in the country is midway up a hill, with a pond on top. Bad location in heavy rain-this is the third time our driveway has flooded, but by far the worst. Luckily, the house was fine. Glad yours was, too.

Hi, Kylesh ... so glad you were spared all that flooding. Laughed out loud at your "have kayak will travel" attitude. Gosh, ziplining and biking (33 miles!); you are really making the most of things. So sorry about the knees. Hope the doc's translation into Knee Talk for Patients, not Surgeons yields something promising. Congrats on your new job/move, also. Stay in touch when you can and let us know how you are. Take care.
P.S. about those ice packs, I have a motley crew myself. The gel and the clay ones do seem to stay cold longer. Now that stores are having end-of-summer sales, I have picked up some ice pack thingies for keeping things like beer and soda, not hips and knees, cold, and they are good and cheap.
