THR Just want to feel normal

I have a grabber in every room (found them in the $2 shop). I also second the walker idea, mine has a basket under the seat and I used it constantly in the house. I would sit on the seat to cook and do dishes, and put the plates of food on the seat and push them to the table. Clearing the table, I put everything into the basket, and push to the sink.

If I rightly remember now the lady in next bed had been offered a trolly for the kitchen because she is on her own... know I have people in the house to help but they are not always around.

hi folks,
Lovely change in our weather today here in west scotland... sun is shining . Its about time its been a long winter . We took our wee doggy to the park earlier and I had a really nice pain free walk around . Woman stopped and asked about my leg . When I told her it was only 5 .5 weeks ago I had it done she was laughing saying I was galloping round the park like I was on a mission... will likely spend a week paying for it.:dancy:.

Its been a lovely day here too Claire We all feel better for seeing the sun especially after the long winter we have just gone through. I also enjoyed a nice walk this afternoon. Are you still using a walking aid ?

Kim22. Yes still on both crutches... if I am potterin around the house I will just use the one... am scared to put too much weight on my bad leg just now.. today was really the first time I can honestly say I enjoyed walking there was zero pain or discomfort. Never have any two days the same . I might be aching tomorrow.

Kim22. Am just laughing at myself .... looking at your wee bit at the bottom describing what you had done .... god look at mine its a bit over the top. All technical jargin and borin... . am really not that smart by the way I just copied it word for word off the letter the os gave me.

clarabo I'm impressed by the detail you have been given about your implant. The short bit that I've put on my signature is all I know about it. The OS is a man of few words and all it said on the discharge letter was RTHR He told me I was having a ceramic on ceramic as I was a bit younger than most of his patients and they are supposed to last longer. I have a long list of questions for him at the clinic but that's not until 25th May ! You must be longing to be fully recovered to be able to be more active with your son.Roll on summer ! Our little grandson is 6 months so I am looking forward to being recovered in time for him toddling.

clarabo and Kim22 both signatures are good :) it is entirely up to the individual as to how much information you want to add to your signature:)

Claire,I smiled when I read your galloping comment.. I was walking with a young colleague (who naturally walks fast) and he thought I was way behind him, he got the shock of his life to find I was right there keeping pace... He said, 'I thought you would be way, way behind me in the corridor and I should slow down to be polite!'

:rotfl: :egypdance:

Poppet. I have just looked at some of your post surgery posts.. my goodness you had it rough.. I thought I was given a rubbish deal because I had bad reaction to morphine and like you had few blood transfusions. You dont even sound upset or phased by any of it. I was a nervous wreck, terrified , and cried like a 2 year old the whole time.

clarabo you sound so chirpy and happy, I love hearing it! Working from home, eh? Very good way to start. No, let me guess-- your home is your studio/what do you florists call where you work, anyway? LOL

zauberflöte... yeh I am a florist. My boss sends all the work to my house.. its good i can just go at my own pace .. as for being chirpy I think its either the change in weather or the drugs (medication I mean).lol:wink:.

Morning Clarabo
How is the weather up there in your part of the world. My sister lives in Buckie so I know how beautiful it is. Here in Coventry the sun is shining although its still a little nippy.
Nice to see you are progressing well and enjoying the flowers. What a lovely job.

millie4162... hi there ..it was a really nice day today but has turned rather dull.. looks like rain isnt to far away. Am not long home been out for 7 hours... in and out of the car and round shops all day. To be honest its only my feet that are suffering at the moment. Well so far so good

Thats one hell of a lot of surgery you have been through....you're brave.

Hi folks, am feeling kinda good (touch wood). 3 days of being active and pretty much no pain . Have been going around the house on 1 crutch and I am fine with it. Just wondering if anyone knows if this is ok to do. Don't want to put weight on hip if I am not supposed to incase I do any damage. When I left hospital I wasnt really given any advice(our hospital here just want free beds and kick you out asap). All they said was move around as much as you can, gave you an excersise sheet, any problems , dont bother us go to your gp , will see you back in 12 weeks.... any advice would be a help. Claire. X

clarabo, wow, talk about kicking you out of the nest. I went from a walker to a cane in about a week and a half. The walker you tend to apply pressure on the walker and not on your legs. I love the cane. I had a RTHR so the cane is in my left hand but I don't bear weight on it, I just use it to steady myself. You are young so be careful, don't push it to much. Do the exercises but if they hurt stop, they should only give you a dull soreness level of pain. Be careful with stairs at first find ways to hold on to railings and such. Use pain meds if you have some about an hour before exercises. Which arm do you have the crutch in? If you aren't sure of what you are going to do get someone to assist you so you don't fall, like stairs , shower, car don't do it alone. Get a toilet riser, try to vary the chairs you sit in. I went from Hospital and their short rehab treatments to a rehab center for a total of 1 1/2 weeks then to home.

clarabo Claire, the best advice I might be able to offer is tagging Josephine she is a nurse. I myself, will start using my cane a little and give the walker a rest....lol I would like to go to the doctors using the cane, I'll see how the next few days go. BTW it sounds like you are doing wonderful with your recovery keep it up.

Hi Clare I was told that I should start to walk without a stick indoors as long as I didn't have a limp but to carry on using it outdoors for some weeks yet.So if you are pain free and not limping then from what I was advised you should be ok.

Thanks everyone..... I will take all advice onboard. Am still a wee bit unsteady on my feet with one crutch and slightly limping but not to bad. Will use it in short bursts around the house before I do it outdoors. I am a bit of a calamity jane at the best of times so not taking any chances.
