Revision TKR JennyLynne's "full" disclosure

It's hard to live with someone who's so task oriented. Would you be able to just sit and watch, 'supervise', while he does the work. If he wants to do all that stuff, let him. It doesn't mean you have to help. They're his projects. You could keep him company as long as you're out of the sun, icing and elevating. To be sure, he doesn't expect you to do all that yard work with that infant knee of yours. You already have a 5 year old to take care of. That's work right there!

@Jennszoo, it hurts just above the kneecap. Did you have any work done to your knee cap? I had a PKR 2 yr ago that was patella femoral arthroplasty. Lifts hurt way more after that surgery!

I've never had work done but he had to move it a great deal to realign it. So that might be why it's been such a bother. Along w the quad.

@Jennszoo my PT said that it's normal to feel it there... whatever connects there was impacted by the surgery. Not her exact words, haha.... but it's normal!!

@Jennszoo Yes, I would say it's normal. Mine hurt quite a bit. Actually, anytime I was using my quads. I can now do straight leg lifts with no pain in the kneecap. My OS said my kneecap was polished from all the bone on bone rubbing so I have a button now.

JennyLynn, I do hope you have a relaxing weekend and hubby gets in some good playtime with the little one.

@sistersinhim - DH doesn't expect me to do anything. But he isn't leaving time to play with our son, and it's not going well. My son will hang with me for a little while, but he gets bored and wants to run around. He needs some action! Oh I wish I had his energy!

Oh sorry, I misunderstood. Can he get your son to 'help' him in his work? That will get him busy and make him feel like he's helping daddy. Five is such a cute age. When I taught them in VBS, they wanted so much to please, and tried really hard to do their work. I bet your son would love to help his father.

Yeah, he helped with yard work a bit but got bored, of course! He wants dad's attention really bad right now. I know it will get better once I can do more.
This is my favorite age so far!(except this past week, haha)

I can sure understand that!
Have a good, less painful night!

@JennyLynne, getting those staples removed is no joke so I'm happy to hear yours are now out. I'm sure the zingers will calm down a bit over the next 24 hours. I had to laugh a bit when I saw your comment on horror visions of the incision popping open. Why? Because many years ago when I had a big abdominal surgery that was stapled I walked around for a week or two terrified of the same nightmare scenario. It didn't happen.

Here's to a more relaxing and more pain-free weekend for you!

@JennyLynne, yeah, that little nightmare scenario just doesn't happen, but somehow it does enter our imagination when first freed of staples! I'll be getting rid of my staples next week and am looking forward to a reduction in that awful pulling sensation. I know it'll hurt, but as you said, it's pretty quick. And hey, if I yell out a few choice words while it's happening, so be it, lol.

@Pheebs52 I suggest you hug a pillow during the staple removal. That way, if you were to scream out a string of obscenities, you can scream into the pillow. Not saying that's what I did (just kidding- that is exactly what I did!!)

After waking up with bad back pain, I tried to sleep on my side. FAIL! Even with a big puffy pillow between my knees, the pressure on the inside of my operated knee was too much to handle.

Hoping I am ready for it soon. I slept well for the first 2 weeks because I was much more medicated. My back and shoulders have had it with the back sleeping!!

@JennyLynne, uh-oh....they might have to gag me!:snork: JK, but I'll definitely ask for the pillow!

I am with you 110% on the back sleeping; ugh! But...side -sleeping is only good for about an hour here and then what you described happens and the whole leg begins to throb.

What I found interesting the other night was that back-sleeping in the big, old, man-chair recliner, was much more comfortable than in my formerly, comfy bed. Perhaps it's just a matter of the angle being different? Have you tried recliner sleeping? I'm sure you have. The other day, NewlyBionic suggested getting a bed wedge for the upper back to prevent lower back pain. I think she felt it mimicked a hospital type bed by adding that to the regular assortment of pillows.

It is difficult to find the right position for sleeping when you tire of sleeping on your back. I tried to sleep semi-supine which worked for a little while before having to adjust again. Hang in there...we will get there soon!

I could try a wedge? I don't have a recliner. It sounds wonderful!

I know Bed, Bath and Beyond sell the wedges as does Amazon. They just give what sounds like the right amount of an angle for the upper back to take the heat off the lower back, if that makes sense. The good news is, they are inexpensive.

I slept much better in my first month than I do now at 11 weeks. Go figure. Probably because I was still so tired from the surgery and all. Now I wake up all time time and have to almost sit up to roll over. Then after sleeping on my side I try and straighten out my leg and it's just so stiff and sore that I totally wake up. Ugh! I'm back to using Oxy at night after being off it for awhile.

I noticed you are from Michigan. What city?

Ugh. That's a bummer. I def had more pain on waking this am than usual, but it was my first night off narcotics. I guess even that 1/2 percoset 5/325 was doing something helpful. I want to get those meds out of my system, before #2 to increase their effectiveness when I need them. But if it starts impacting my sleep, all bets are off.
