Revision TKR JennyLynne's "full" disclosure

Oh, Jenny! You gave me a chuckle! Then I remembered during my TKR I would sit in my chair, hoist my legs onto the ottoman and pillows, then pull the ottoman close my hooking my cane around the leg of the ottoman to pull it closer. Well, one time I didn't quite get a hold of the ottoman leg, but pulled just a as hard as normal. The bottom of the cane of course came right up to poke me in the eye. So on top of a bump knee I had given myself a black eye. :heehee:

@KarriB a black eye? Didn't see that coming! (No pun intended [emoji23])

Staples are out!!! And it did NOT feel like "just a pinch", that's for sure. But it was over quickly.

Today is two weeks. I feel better than I expected. Got to spend more time downstairs over the weekend. I didn't elevate enough and swelled up bad last night. Lesson learned!

Yay. I bet you feel so much better. I've never had staples, they seem so painful to me.

@Jennszoo I didn't feel them at all the last 2 weeks (outside of smacking me knee). But the removal was not fun.

I've been having zingers all through the knee for the last hour or so. I assume today just made some things flare up.

I didn't want to tell you that it would be painful to remove the staples. I had 35 of them and 34 of them hurt. I was close to 3 weeks and the skin had started growing over them. Ouch!! Some of them even bled.

With yours out, it should be easier to bend now without so much pulling. I was really relieved once they were out. You had a busy day today and your knee is reacting. It should calm down shortly.

Yep those staples are not any fun. It seems there must be a fine line when it's the time to get them out before the skin grows over them too much. Unfortunately they never found the right time with me. Just think though that's one more milestone down along your total recovery.

You may find that you may continue to get zingers for a while longer. For me they would come at all hours. I remember one night one hit me when I was sound asleep. I yelled 'ow' fairly loudly and sent my two dogs running throughout the house making sure all was well.

Yes, the skin had started growing over a few. I was screaming into a pillow!! Now I have an irrational fear that everything will open up. Silly I know.

I don't think I had any early zingers because my OS put me on Gabapentin during the first month. Any zingers after that lasted for only seconds at a time. Glad your staples are out (glad I had glue)... continued well wishes for your healing. You're coming out of the "dark days" as I called them. You're doing great!!!

Thanks @jaschembra !

Next Friday is my son's preschool "graduation" ceremony... my re-entry into the real world! My goal is to survive it! [emoji23]

Congratulations on getting the staples out! Hopefully the pain will soon be a distant memory. Getting your swelling back down and pain controlled will help a lot. Hang in there!

I was happy not to have staples too but I'm very happy yours are out now! I hate those zingers too. Your doing great. All this stuff will soon be a thing of the past :)

Now that yesterday's discomfort has passed, I can tell the difference with staples out. I didn't realize it when they were in but I can feel a difference now. Or maybe it's just in my head, haha!

I have 2 more home PT sessions.
I am going to miss it. My therapist is amazing- lots of gentle massage that really loosens me up.

Have an outpatient PT evaluation next week. Will probably start the following week. I'm trying a new clinic, because we moved since my last surgery and want something close to home. Hope I like it as much as my previous one. If not, I may make the drive to the other place. They were great!!! After 2 years of on and off therapy, I felt like one of their team!

Oh, it's not in your head. It definitely feels better without those staple pulling! I pray you can get outpatient PT that you like just as much as have your home PT.

My quad is finally starting to work again! I can get in bed without a strap at last! I can't quite do a straight leg lift, but I can if it's a little bent. Just like my last surgery, it came out of nowhere!!

Hoping for a good weekend, even if I'm home the whole time. Last weekend, my husband wanted to get too much done (including 10 hours of yard work). Between that and taking care of me, my 5 yr old did not like the lack of attention and it was meltdown city. I keep telling my husband that we need to focus on the "have to" and not the "want to"- there just aren't enough hours in the day when I'm not able to do much. Hope he listens this weekend!!

I'm glad your quad is coming back. Congratulations on being able to lift your leg into bed. That's a great little victory to celebrate! :yes!: :yay:

Does it hurt your kneecap when you do that? I can do the straight leg lift but it still feels like a pulling on my kneecap. Wondering if this is still within the real of "normal".
