Week Six - post op. When I began this journey, I really felt like I was stepping off a cliff. The only thing that pushed me was knowing that I simply could not live my life in pain another day. Wherever it led, that was my mindset. In my fondest dreams, though, I was riding my bike or walking the dog with hubby or perusing the shops in Paris. So I crossed my fingers and said my prayers and figured that I would soon know my destiny. Now I do. Sort of.
I'm SO much better, even at this short recovery time span, than I have been in years. I wake up to zero pain. I'm a little stiff but I've always stretched in the bed before I hopped up and now that habit has eliminated most of the initial soreness. I'm walking mostly without my cane although it's somewhere handy. I can reach down close enough to the floor to feed and water the dog which brings both dog and hubby tremendous joy. I'm cooking. Ditto on the joy thing. Little steps.
I finished up my last outside PT yesterday with A+ and instructions to continue exercising and walking on my own. I'll see my OS Monday for official check-up and plan to ask him about continuing with PT on the coast until the end of the year, perhaps just working with a PT expert once a week. Jury is still out on that but even if he doesn't want to prescribe it, I will hire one myself as I think it will keep me moving ahead and focused. I need to be 100% or close to it by the end of January.
We will head to our coast home Monday after doctor's appt and if you hear singing, feel the sun on your face, or just generally want to smile, it will be the thought of me coming home to my "real world"! I have missed being there so much but am equally grateful to have had the opportunity to have my surgery and rehab in such a comfortable, safe place without all the distractions of work. I've been blessed.
And at the top of my blessings would be the names of all my fellow hippies who have hobbled every step of the way. We have laughed and cried together, tried to figure out the source of various pains in the a-- and been a true comfort to each other as no one who had not been in these shoes could ever understand. Again, I've been blessed.
So that's where I am.
