Congratulations on "Loosing it" today. One of the main things in life I have learned is that if I want something, I have to go and get it myself. I ask nicely, then firmly then I ask for someone else. You are on a learning path Natalie---being nice is not the way to go. Being pleasant and assertive is the way to go. Good Girl!!! K
 
Certainly we'll help you, Nat. I'm not very good at doing that kind of stuff, but I know a man who is! :wink: RichardRobins - can we help Natalie send a email a cd-rom of her MRI scan to the US? We can convert it or something, can't we?
 
If I may I would like to make a suggestion here. Before you send it off, make a copy for yourself or download it to your computer, so you still have a copy of it and will not have to go thru this again. I never realized that you were waiting for the results,I thought you still had to go for the scans.
Hang in there with us, and we will all help in anyway we can you just need to ask, we care so much about you and want to see free of all this pain.

Natalie, I see Dr. Maale on Sept. 20th! Is there anything that you would like for me to take to him? If so, ican do that. For some strange reason, things that get emailed to him get lost. If you have anything you want him to see, I will be happy to make sure he is listening! :)

I don't know the UK system but common sense would say that you have a right to the official reading of your scan and a CD of the study. It is a ver paternal system that holds on to and restricts access to a persons own medical test results. Please see if you can call the hospital's medical record department to get a copy of your report. If they are not helpful find out who you go to when health care practitioners withhold your personal medical test results. Surely the is an office for complaints and patient advocacy in the national health service. Find them and call them ask for advice how to get your report. At the rate you are going w/ your OS office the cd could be copied, mailed and reaced to by Drs here in te USA before your OS secretary opens her appointment book. ChrisO
 
Nat, there are lots of people who are willing to help you. Hope you are able to get those results to Dr. Maale thru Sonja! Keeping good, strong thoughts for you!

Thanks Kelly bring nice wasn't getting me very far and I don't have time on my side every day the pain worsens!

Sonja I have nothing I can pass on to him I have no previous scans or x rays or notes they all with the hospital and I've no,idea how I would go about getting them?The only thing I could do is ask the GP for the letters that he receives reporting on each appointment with my surgeon?Im not sure how informative these will be though?

Hey Christ they were pretty adamant that I wouldn't be allowed access to any results until my appointment but I can try and speak to medical records and see if I can get a copy no harm in trying I may not be able to decipher it that well but I could get it sent to US quicker.
 
The pain is out of control now I'm getting about 2 hours sleep a day/night I have no part of the day when I have any relief from pain I'm taking morphine every few hours just to get me through daily activities.Resting hurts just as much as getting on and doing stuff so I'm just plodding along.
It scares when I stop and think that I'm 32 and unable to do so many things because of this damn disease!!
 
Natalie, we certainly are entitled to copies of our xrays and scans, with or without the report. But don't ask the doctors, they know nowt about it! It's the radiology department that deals with it. They should have a release form you sign to get whatever you want (note 'want' not 'need') and they get the doctor's consent as well but it should be a perfunctory consent. There's usually quite a rigmarole involved: go to xray reception and make the request, they give you a form to fill in, you have to pay up front and provide two types of ID, they prefer a passport or drivers licence and a utility bill! But I've done this so often at my hospital, the clerk who deals with it gave me her direct line number and I can ring her and arrange for the copies to be made then take my ID and payment when I collect! .
 
In the US, requesting Xrays, scans and the like are requested through the hospital dept or radiology group that took it as Josephine has suggested happens in the UK. Learned that through experience; I requested records thinking I would be getting all of the records and only received the drs notes and records. Many times, the drs don't even receive the actual Xray, only the written results from the Radiologist.

I am so so very sorry you are in such pain and hope that you find a resolution to your condition and can get on with living a fully and happy life.
 
Natalie, Do you have a friend who can go with you to the radiology dept? Ask someone else to drive so that it is not so taxing for you. Tell her/him exactly what you need to get. Then, have someone who is not in pain help. You want a copy of all scans and xrays taken. Period. Give the id, sign the form and pay. Collect what you want and be on your way. I think it will help you though to have someone along who is not in pain and not easily deterred by officious receptionists. K
 
Yes Nat,

Get all of the scans that pertain to your knee and any notes that have been written. Dr. Maale likes to have a report, but he can read a scan if necessary! :)

Thanks Jo I had no idea you could do any of this only problem I have now is I cannot get to the hospital till my appointment as its an hour away and we have no car and no public transport goes direct :( I have to get hospital transport would they send it to my local hospital?

I don't Kelly I relied so heavily on people friends and family in the past 9 years to take me several hours to the hospital every time I mention the hospital now family say you will have to go in hospital transport or I'm busy!
Hospital transport is such a nightmare too I can't take my husband then I just get dumped at the door of the hospital as there is often patients on the ambulance a lot older and going to other departments and need assistance and there is often only 1 member of staff to help.
So unless they can maybe transfer my records/scans to my local hospital I'm stuck until I go for my appointment.
