Good for you . I had a rough day but it wasn't my knee . The bricklayer's union is wanting me to start paying dues . They don't like someone putting out a superior product to theirs .

Rick

@icep707 Was it you who said, "yippee, no work for 12 weeks!" Is so and you are restless now, then good luck. I was off work 8 weeks but by 6 weeks I got so tired of being alone I couldn't wait to return to work. I am 11 weeks post revision as of yesterday and I can't even imagine being home 12 weeks! I fired my Home Physical Therapy after one visit from the RN, evaluator and PTA. What a joke...all the exercises were so easy to do myself I didn't want them in my house. I guess I am just very independent and say I can do it better myself. When they'd come over my blood pressure would go up and I've never had high blood pressure, ever. I don't like being treated as though I am helpless!

Bonnie. You are so right. Im a butcher for a Costco in the Bay Area. I wanna be sure to be physically ready for the grind . Ha (inside butcher joke). Its just this early on im useless without my walker. I think 2 more weeks till I will feel NORMAL. I already feel what im sure are zingers. Painless but trippy to say the least. I must say, you are very resilient and im glad you are progressing so well. You deserve it. Im sure the first week , two or three are the loneliest. Not a big deal as im sort of a lone wolf but not in a terroristic way. Having empty house syndrome to boot. once mobile ill be good to go. This area has lots of attractions and things to do. Going back to work is not one of them ! Bye Bonnie , congratulations on a healthy knee ! Oh as for PT, they suck. I could do it myself .

You'll be surprised Icep707, by week two you'll look at that walker and say, no way...
I had mine for a week, then one crutch for a week. By the 15th day I walked with NO assistive devices in the house whatsoever. I went to my first OS check up on the 18th day and left all walking assistant at home. I didn't know if I'd get scolded for not coming in without even one crutch or a cane, but that was not the case, they told me...Good job!

I really did not start getting lonely/antsy till the 4th week. I was so busy recovering, icing, elevating, taking pain meds and writing on Bonesmart that I kept busy. Once I really started feeling good that's when I got lonely, because I felt better but yet it was too soon to get out and do much.

Costco...YES,, I shop Costco all the time. My regular weekly items are sliced fresh Mango, and a huge bag of Skinny Pop.

I auctually ditched the walker today and used the cane. Ill get crutches tomorrow at my 10 day post op visit, ill take walker tomorrow to visit though. I havent even tried my stairs since ive been home ,ive been stuck downstairs. Today I went upstairs !! unassisted 14 stairs. And back down , kicking clean clothes down the stairs. And making it down at a pretty good clip. That was my first real major hurdle... ok second , BM was the first major hurdle. Anyways today was a good day, ditched walker , conquered the scary stairs and no oxy. Im happy so far . Still icing and elevating 20 hours a day. Bye

I'd use a walker before I would crutches . Whoever invented crutches should be drawn and quartered . They gave me a pair after I had my menisectomy and I used them until I got home and got my walker out . Those things are torture devices .

Congrats on going up and down stairs . Most houses here don't have them . I'm sure stairs will be worked into my PT before it's over .

After my original TRK in 2011, a condition of the release from the hospital was that I had to learn how to walk up/down stairs because I too had 14 stairs...straight up and hardwood. They had practice stairs at the hospital, so I learned. Once home though I only did the stairs twice a day (in the beginning). With all bedrooms upstairs I'd have to go up to sleep and not come down the next day until I was bathed, dressed and ready for the day. Once down, I stayed down till it was bedtime again. Late May of 2013 we moved to a brand new one story house, so when I had surgery in August for scar tissue, then a revision in December, there were no longer any stairs to be an issue. As a novelity now when I go places that have stairs, I try them just to get a measurement of how I am doing...to see if I can.

So it sounds like you are really doing good iceman, keep up the good work!

@icep707 ice ice baby. Good job. Progressing nicely brother. Easy on the stairs, no need to go TOO fast. First week post op I was moving pretty fast up and down the stairs in our house and almost took a header....was very careful after that. Do everything you need to, but moving slow on the stairs is good IMO. Like a big diesel. But really just blown away overall on how well you are doing bud. Your attitude is awesome!

Left Coast, this is Right Coast . How goes it today ? Should we be watching for NBC to break in during the Olympics for the One Man Stair Climb today ?

Rick

...so far both my PTs may very well be the laziest PT on planet earth. Im really in the wrong profession. I guess I was expecting differently. I should be happy but I feel like I threw30$ out the window , twice. Oh well.

I agree with you about PTs! It should be a requirement that they have to have gone through some type of surgery and/or physical trauma before they start advising!

That can be said for a lot of jobs .

Ice Ice baby...slow down!! Let us know how your appt goes today.

I think you have received enough "crappy"advice, so to speak regarding constipation! Haha. The Lucky Charms reference was classic. I eat them every morning. They are magically delicious. My only advice ,and I am operated 2/10, is when you start true PT, the pain will increase. In 2 sessions, I went from 13 degree extension to about zero. The next day, you will feel that. Sounds like you are kicking some butt! Keep it up. I am making a foray into the social world. Wife and daughter taking me out to lunch. With my work, I never go out to lunch. Thus I am looking forward to it. Kids are out of school here in Tucson this week for the Rodeo. Seriously, they get 3 days off when the rodeo comes to town. Cool. For me, I will watch the golf tourney which is taking place in Tucson also. Keep healing all. Icep707, keep kicking it!

I actually eat the Lucky Charms for dessert in lieu of ice cream. Helps keep the bad cholesterol at bay, but anything with sugar will help mobilize the old fudge factory (hey, everybody else is being gross:angel:)...anyway @braindoc I know I am living in the wrong part of the country when there is a city that has a local holiday for a rodeo! That is classic old school Americana, love it! BTW I really appreciate you reaching out to me the other day regarding the neg. reflex arc thing. Still struggling with it, but I know it will come. Fight on SC :)

Greetings from beautiful California.
Yesterday was a big day. Ditched the walker and conquered Mount Stairs. Today walking around outside with PT.(with cane).@extra light PT. Than my buddy picked me up in a RV to take me to my OS appointment. Queen size bed and all. Nice fridge with cold sodas. And pillows on bed. How cool was that. It was like better than a ambulance ride. Pretty wierd feeling as im not a RV guy. Watching cars driving by while lying down is strange. OS not even there, his hot assistant Nicole there to check incision , clear for showers and asked general questions, no staples used , super glue (Elisea) I wont pick at it !! We pre ordered a large pepperoni, sausage and olive pizza and head home to .............elavate and eat ! It was fun and sun was a shining. It was a good day. Knee pain pretty low. Hurts like a 5 for 2 minutes after laying down, which I do alot. Painful to get up in middle of night or first thing in morning. Very common this early. How long till that goes away ?? Months im sure . Rick ! Hope all is well im having fun today , meds working great, even without the oxy. Thought of you as I was rolling down the freeway passing a semi. Whats been new? McIrish me lad, keep up the great work. If you come up north , come to me house for corn beef n cabbage.also be careful from that little girl torpedo. Doc!!!! Hows it going. It must be great to be home to spend with your children, as I know sometimes work becomes are lives and than the kids are gone. Enjoy your time off with your family, beautiful weather, beautiful community and time off . These years are precious. Are you doing inhome PT ? Are you still considering going back to work in 6-8 weeks??? .who better to ask than a brain surgeon !!! Bye

@icep707 ....post op life of luxury smh.....#jealous.

You mentioned pizza and I have one question you must answer....does Mary's Pizza Shack still exist? And if so are they still one of the best around? Me and my peeps used to LOVE that place. So much so that it was even a pleasure to have the roof of your mouthed burned by the cheese....well, maybe an exaggeration there....and there used to be this place in Penngrove called Rafa's. Burritos as big as your forearm. That place is probably history. But yea, when I think of pizza and SR I always think of MPS. That place was the best.
