How are you doing today ?

You may get into a funk every now and then but it'll always be temporary . Pain will come and go and move from one spot to another and vary in intensity . Even when taking pain meds on schedule it may still be hard to stay ahead of it but hang in there . You're stronger than it is .

I've had a good day so far today . I took my wrapping off and took my first shower since the day before surgery then went and got a haircut . You're only a week behind me so you're getting closer to better every day .

Have as close to a great day as possible .

Rick

Thanks Rick. So you went to get a haircut. Thats great. I wont leave my house till the 20 th. My first visit with OS. That will be 10 days post. overall Im better off than I feared before surgery. Knee feels secure. Swelling not too bad as im not doing too much . I havent shaved , showered since monday. Im getting ripe!. BTW what are you doing for your PT ? Keep up the great spirits. Elisea , my GF has been pocketing my cash from day one. Lol. Long story . Anyways she has been great , although she would prefer diamonds or horses to flowers. Thanks for checking in on me, even if your a seahawk supporter. :-). SFBAYSAILOR best of luck to you over in Indiana. My GF is a dental assistant, so keep us posted on the GRILL. Tired right now so got to go

PT came to my house the first 2 weeks but once I went back and got my staples out my OS said to release him . I start outpatient PT next Tuesday . Actually, Tuesday will be for evaluation then they'll set up a program . My OS has his own PT clinic . A lot of OS's do that here in Central Florida . Maybe because this is the Senior Citizen Capitol of the world . God's waiting room . I may not be able to drive a car for a few more weeks but I can drive my golf cart here in the community so I drove it down to the billiards room to socialize a bit . I'm sure it'll be a few weeks before I can get my stick out again and play .

We watch Netflix a lot and the new season of "House of Cards" starts today.

Rick

to be fair, it is liked by some. And loathed by some.
And loved by some and indifferent by some. :)
OS seem to be all over the map, literally and figuratively, about its use.

My OS had me use it the first two days in the hospital then that was it . Even then it was only 2 hours a day . I can see using it a bit in the hospital right after surgery to keep everything lubed up .

Rick

As for the CPM I used it today for 2 hours. I had it at 75 ROM. I guess my OS recommended it for 3 weeks. My girlfriend wants me using it. Because she doesnt have to do much. Just lift onto bed. It doesnt bother me but alittle increase in swelling and pain, after.just to a level 3 maybe 4. Nothing a 5mg oxycodone cant handle. Any activity at this point increases swelling and brings little pain . Ill be 5 days out tomorrow. Im really pleased with the way things are going so far. Post op visit with OS will be this Thursday. That will be day 10 and likely my first day out of the house. Bye for now

I take it you do get up and walk around the house regularly and do your exercises . Do you have a PT coming to your house ? My insurance paid for mine this time . I'm still on Cobra . Do you have home healthcare coming and changing your dressing ? We wouldn't want you losing your socialization skills .

Rick

Iceeeeeee! I am glad you are doing well. I am heading home today...

PT came over the other day. She was gentle but wanted like 20 reps. I said "I dont think so". Every exercise had 20 reps. She eventually left as the visit was mostly orientation. im not gonna push too hard. Loss of appetite and nausea setting in as im on alot of dope. Water even taste bad. Girlfriend doesnt understand this. Im diffenetlly seeing a different side of her. Overall I owe her big time. I must be one of the few that enjoy the CPM. Its on now and I dont have to do nothing. I must be doing something. ? Bending the knee has to be good at this point. To all the newbies on the otherside , keep your head up. Stay positive. Things will get better !!

My PT started at 10 reps and worked up to 15 over the 7 or so times he came .

My appetite isn't back all the way yet but that doesn't bother me . I wanted to lose weight anyway . So far I've lost a little over 20 lbs . I don't think I've ever had nausea after a surgery . I can almost assure you, it's anesthesia related . It'll wear off in time .

I don't know what to tell you about your GF . Being a caregiver is a tough job . Especially if they've never been through a major surgery themselves . You will go through your share if depression and that'll rub off on her . You have to be patient with each other .

Rick

@Josephine, can you please send me the link to have in my thread, how to home physio / PT. the one that shows how to do home PT with diagrams. i really would appreciate it, Thanks in advance. BTW ...so far so good. !!

@icep707 Ahhh, the moment of realizing your significant other is not also your ideal caregiver--the Ice Sherpa aka my DH just Didnt Get It the first few days after my surgery--could not grasp that I was close to helpless, exhausted, and needed fed when I was hungry and iced when my knee was hurting, not on his timetable. After two weeks he wouldnt LET me do things I could do for myself without a tussle--also the wrong way to do it. By the time he went back to work (and had a stroke and was in the hospital and we instantly swapped roles) he was a model caregiver.

Now, obviously I dont know the dynamic between you and your GF, but at a guess she is frustrated when she offers you something tempting and you make a face, or she doesnt understand why you are cranky, or she may be worried about your being on dope, or she may wonder if she's going to be stuck with an invalid when she was hoping for a cowboy. All perfectly understandable although at bottom irrational concerns, since there's a 99% chance none of those worst fears will come to pass. We probably need an organization like AlAnon for partners of knee patients....

JEANO ! All great points, I couldnt have said it better myself !! In our effort to stimulate our boredom , we watched the movie MISERY, the other day. While she is doing great I cant help but get this feeling she will like to smother me a pillow. And I so far had a relatively smooth recovery. Day 6 today! Someone said week 1 is the toughest. And ive been a model patient. Appetite almost gone. What a relief because coming out of the gates I was starving. I need to force myself to eat so that medication is effective. Elisea !! Thanks for the link. Ill have plenty of time to watch the conbines , the NFL pre draft workouts. Still hoping my team moves up and picks up another Jerry Rice. Knee stiff as heck first thing in the morning. Bye for now

Good morning Sunshine .

I hope all is well on the left coast . It looks like spring has sprung here in the Sunshine State . Not that it ever really went away . We just had a few cold days and nights spread over a 2 month period .

My butt is starting to revolt against spending so much time in my recliner . If the swelling would go down on the femoral side of my knee then I believe the rest of my body would follow in harmony .

You're probably starting to see that pain moves and varies . It'll spend a few days in one place then move on to another then back again . I'll be glad when we're both over it .

Rick

@RickSt and @icep707 - really enjoying your updates! I hope when I finally get to this stage my recovery is met with as much success, grace and humor as you guys are showing!

Just like clowns we're laughing on the outside while crying on the inside .

Well said Rickster ! The ice and elevation help the best along with the meds. I had to cut back on the meds, just a tad due to loss of appetite and nausea. I finally had a sponge bath 6 days later. GF wore a hazmat suit, must of been from Halloween. !! She pretty funny, thats why we get along so well. Weather in my part of California has been gorgeous, absolutely breathtaking this time of year. I havent even opened my front or back door. Open the blinds and it was blinding. SUNSHINE. !!in home PT tomorrow. I guess im looking forward it. Been using CPM and very light exercises. Not too worried about my bend. Rick I appreciate your correspondence. Thanks man ! Phil are you pre op ? If so when is your surgery ? Im sorry I dont even get on the pre op side at all. I joined Bonesmart almost 3 months and read and read . I know im super early on with my recovery but im happy right now. Watching the ALL STAR game on TV right now literally pain free. Iceing and elevating. With a fresh supply of tramadol oxy 5mg and a celebrex. Im auctually getting hungry !! First time in 3 days . Bye for now.
