Rich....I know you are wanting to get back to your life, but please do slow down!!! It's too soon for you to be out on errands or going out to dinner. You really risk having some setbacks and a lot of pain by pushing too hard too soon.

I'm just worried about you, you know!!!

I didnt realize i was or could be over doing it, i felt really good today so i took advantage of the weather which was gorgeous, its so easy to over do it youre right and the reason i know i did to much is the shooting pain up my back and dow to my knee,i wont do that again not for a while.

Dianemarie youre right i did over do it and i paid the price for it, thats why i had the shooting pain up my back and down my leg to my knee' i will not do that again i dont want to go through that ever again it was awful it brought me back to my days before the surgery, thank you for the kind words it trulybmeans so much.

As i already mentioned i wont do it again its so not worth it afterall i was told if i should pop the hip you will have psin like nobodys buisness, severe pain the visitin nurse came out to my home today and she told me that id i pop my hip you will have pain like no ones buisness, i am a BIG BABY when it comes to pain so i had better be careful and rest and take care of my hip otherwise going to be a long recovery.

Rich, at this stage it is important to stay ahead of the pain. Take those pain meds regularly - not just when the pain comes. Otherwise you are always playing catch up. As you become more and more mobile you will need the meds to help you get to the next stage. That's why it's important to get a refill today - right?

What youre saying Jaycey makes sense but im afraid im going to run out if i keep taking the way youre talking, staying ahead of the pain, i dont know what to do, my appt to have my staples out is April 26th and if i run out by then or before then up the creek without a paddle do you know what i mean...??

That's why I suggested calling your family doctor. Typically you are discharged into their care. Most GPs are glad to help their patients with this recovery. Give it a try tomorrow.

Congrats Rich!!Belated Welcome to the Other Side!!

Sounds like your doing well and now youve tested your limit and know not to push that far.

I worried about dislocation with my 1st THR but found out that it would take some serious contortion to pop that thing out! And if you are pushing your new hip in a way the HIP does not like it will let you know waaaayy before it pops!

Jaycey is right, Rich. Either call the surgeon's office for a refill or your GP. I doubt anyone intended that first prescription to last you until you had staples out. And, if they did....well, that's just unrealistic.

Looks like I do not have to say much about you overdoing it. Seems like you know that already. So easy to do because we are so anxious to live our normal lives again so very understandable. Hope you slowing down a bit gets you back to feeling better. People are right in saying don't get behind the pain. Much better to stay on top of it. Don't be afraid to call about your meds, I'm sure they will sort it out with you. Take care of yourself -Cathy

Aw Rich - that's such a shame. I can imagine you being all 'up' and happy because you were feeling so good. Hope it didn't spoil your dinner. But do remember - just because they sent you out with only a small quantity of pills doesn't mean they won't give you a refill. Lots of members have jumped to that conclusion and found they got refills without any problem.

Also, you really don't need to take them all the time if you are really truly not in pain - just make sure you plan ahead if you are going to do anything with extra effort, extra time or distance. All that kind of thing. Planning ahead is everything and takes the stress out of the event.

But also ...... do slow down, just a little bit! :wink1: :snork:

I have to disagree with the fact that the VA sending me away with only 80 pills is realistic because its the VA they try to save money at every turn, and its so frustrating tat all you want to is scream, uoure powerles dealing with them at every turn.

Just an FYI, my doc only sent me home with 40 pills. I had to keep calling the office for refills.

I dont know what makes some Drs think, all they need to do is do the math and will make our lives so much better, its almost like they come up with a number in their heads and thats what they go with, i just got off the phone with my Dr and can only hope things will work out and everyone is happy..

:hairpulling: I remember my first weeks POP.

My OS did not even bother to send me home with meds. Lucky I had left over from before surgery. My Pharmacist (who went out on a limb because as narcotics are restricted here you have to see the doctor before you can get the script) took my desperate phone call to him and acted on my behalf and called my GP for a script. He is a prince among men
When I told my OS he said Oh I guess I forgot. And with my brian not so good when I got discharged I didn't even think of it (as I had other issues at discharge time that all I wanted to do was go home.)

Doctors don't always think. Or as my son, the pharmicist, says you have to get to know your pharmacist he will be able to help you out and assist with the black hole of dealing with doctors. It helped me a bunch. Also he said we are the ones with the pain and we are the ones who have to stand up for ourselves and say that's not enough or I need more or something else. I cannot be in pain and expect to put energy into healing and recovery when all that is on my mind is PAIN!

Take care everyone and be comfortable :ATT637464:

Sometimes information or communication can simply get lost in the shuffle but like you about he said he forgot , thats such a crock because Drs know that after surgery you needto have script written for pain and to have te audacity to say i forgot doesnt wash with me.
